Huesman expectations were for 4 mid year transfers. So far there are 2 .Claases begin Monday.

Huesman expectations were for a total of 7 transfers.

Absence of Kennedy and October, both top recruiters, likely have a lot to do with the shortfall. Not sure Ellis is actively recruiting.
4 likely ambitious even without those departures. Still 1,000+ kids in portal, they're taking even longer these days. Not ideal because spring is beneficial. I hope we still end up with at least 7, a few guys at key spots would really change things.

The inability to recruit graduate transfers(particularly from Ivy schools)has removed a large swatch of potentials which had existed in previous years.

I guess our inability to recruit graduate transfers particularly from Ivy schools is also Huesman’s fault!

32counter ask the audit department to audit the decision making process. This is a strategic decision and the university should have policies and procedures on this process. If not there should be findings and the board should hear the results.

Totally agree it’s on the Administration if they weren’t aware of this Patriot League Rule. It definitely hurts our ability to fill roster voids quickly. I feel pretty sure Huesman was not a supporter of this conference change and probably had little to no input when this decision was made.

Someone posted the below concerning the Sothern Conference All Conference players on AGS. Guess these guys think they are good enough to get a check. Kind of looks a little like the stats from the Spider roster, excepting some of the Spiders will probably be happier just moving up to better FCS conferences.

I see these stats floating around elsewhere for other conferences, so I'll add this for the SoCon:

Of the 27 players that made first team (12 offense, 11 defense, 4 special teams) in 2024, only two players — Western Carolina receiver AJ Colombo and Furman kicker Ian Williams — are returning for 2025.

13 players graduated
12 have hit the transfer portal, with 5 finding homes so far

It sure would be a validation if we could get some former Richmond football player or perspective recruit that would make the statement that leaving Richmond was because we moved to the Patriot League! It seems to be a given that most think this is the reason for a loss of players recently?
Speculating is not evidence this is the main reason! Can’t we lay this bashing of the Patriot League move to rest until proof that it has truth to it.🏈🕷️🕸️

I believe most that left felt they could play at a higher level. I'm convinced the lore of a paycheck helped.
Believe these two are the most powerful drivers of the decision. The move to the Patriot League being a secondary concern that provided the nudge needed to enter the Portal. After all, if you feel you can play at a higher level you probably don't believe spending a year in the Patriot League will prove anything.

Go Spiders!

I have no doubt that there are people pushing the promise of money. The agents have hit every level. Promises to kids to get them NIL in return for a “small” percentage. The vultures don’t care about the kids since it’s a volume game.

I agree that the lure of money is the prime culprit. If you are good enough the NFL will find you. FCS players will have to decide if playing time that creates film and shows game situation skill sets outweighs the pull of immediate money and FBS promises that many times may lead to “Fools Gold” and regrets.

I've recently started posting on the Miami message boards, and I have to say, I think a few of you here have a chance to be star posters over there. In fact, I'm prepared to offer you three figures to make the move with me. You'll have the chance to catch the attention of some big time social media influencers, and it could lead to a lucrative professional TikTok career for you, if you're prepared to put in the time and effort...

If I am even talented enough to be considered in that group, at my age you have to tell me what Tik Tok is.

Does this mean you are leaving us? If you do, will you come back after TikTok is dead?

I'm certain all those SoCon programs moving to the Patriot League had an impact.

Of course Nick goes there along with Ellis and Coleman. Main core of dissatisfaction with Richmond Offense. Birds of a feather flock together. It will be a great test to see how they fair versus being at Richmond🏈🕷️❄️
Hope they made good choices.

The HC at JMU was at Holy Cross.

Holy Cross stats for 2023.
Sluka that year ran it 186 times for 1247 net yards 9 TDs. He threw it for 197 times completing 122 for 1728 yards with 20 TDs and 5 INTs
The top RB that year ran it for 1046 yards on 156 carries
Team ran it 460 times for 2906 yards net with 31 TDs, they threw it 252 times for 2227 yards with 25 TDs

Guess we wait and see but first glance it looks like the HC might have wanted his running QB to play for him again, time will tell.
I would point out neither of these guys has been named the starter as yet.

understand he can redshirt but will admit it’s overall a surprising move to go redshirt at the bottom tier FBS level. However, I get it that his Richmond experience wasn’t what he envisioned and there’s going to be a new OC here.

To his credit and devotion to Richmond for 2 years. He was scheduled to redshirt one of his 2 years here but was forced to play each year. He definitely saved us both years and we owe alot of our past 2 years of success to him. I loved this guy and we should all root for him to have the greatest of success at wherever he is or moves on to in his career.

Sluka will be #1 QB from the get-go.

Well said.

I hope they promised him a redshirt year if he wants it, and it works out for him if that is what he desires.

Sluka’s been shopping since his UNLV exit after 3 games there.

It’s free agency.Cam can decide. If Sluka gets hurt,it’s a different ball game.JMU coach would be crazy to utilize a Cam redshirt year if he doesn’t have to.If Cam ain’t happy,he can hit the road and look for another home.
