O'Connor Article

For all we know, even though he graduated he had a 2.2 GPA. His GPA was deemed not high enough by the people who determine who is qualified to attend our university. He was denied admission. It's over.

Interesting how highly some people here view Xavier, after all the crap that was spewed here about them when they played in the A-10.

Can't speak to grad programs, but the academic profile of X's undergrad student body is nearly identical to VCU's, with a slightly higher acceptance rate.

SF, you are right. X is not exactly a center of academic excellence. OSC

Even the Ivies give special consideration to athletes, Stanford does, Duke does, I could go on. The point is schools give special consideration to athletes to assist in their admission. UR does it also.

Going on: Michigan, Georgetown, Villanova, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Rice, Notre Dame, Cal-Berkeley, UVA, USC, UCLA, etc.

It is a great means of expanding the national visibility of our school, and it expands our applicant pool. Pride in the school enhances alumni giving and success broadens our fan base.

Exactly, any time you have some success in March Madness, the school receives tons of additional exposure. I agree with Trap, this was a one year grad school rental, way too much scrutiny when you compare the risk/reward. Admissions apparently does not understand this.

It's called cutting off your nose to spite your face.

yes we do and we do not, thankfully, know how many we do that with each year. go to any school and find out how many student/athletes would have matriculated if they did not play something, probably a small %. this is how it works and when you dip down into a murkier pool to attempt to recruit, you are most likely going to miss out at UR and many other places. we have wasted several threads and pages on something we should not even known about and that is pretty sad.
