Soulis hits the portal

2020 we make the tournament
Summer 2020 Covid hits
2021 is shortened season and doesn’t affect eligibility.
Everyone who had senior season in 2021 also has a senior season in 2022.

I think that is the scenario that people are looking at.

But it doesn’t make Mooney a better or worse coach…

@spiderstudent17 did you graduate in 2017? I was a 2016 grad, wondering if we may have known each other. There has to be a 100% chance we ran into each other at some point. I was at every game in those bottom bleachers for 4 years with one exception (Vs Miami in the NIT - and we don’t talk about that game)
Sorry ply, must've missed this earlier. Yep, graduated then. Feels forever ago! I wasn't a Richmond Rowdy but attended nearly every game I was on campus for. Rushed the court against UMass and VCU. Good times!

They were ranked #12 in the country. It’s all been downhill for them since.

look at that roster compared to our current roster. twice as good. that was year Ced got hurt. so it wasn't good enough to overcome that. also look at the schedule. 17 except u. don't look. Minnesota, UNC, Wake, Florida. Only a couple cupcakes.

I don’t really understand how you can make that judgment on 46 total minutes of play in 9 games. You tend to be a numbers guy, his numbers were as good or better as other guys getting minutes. That should override the eye test.

I don’t give the benefit of the doubt to CM and the coaching staff on their ability to judge their players. We should all seriously question the player evaluation capabilities, from whom they recruit to whom they start to whomever gets actual PT.
I hate agreeing with VT but I didn't need 46 minutes to see he was nowhere near as good as advertised... Much less player of year in Ohio... He needs to go Div II

I didn’t see that at all when he was on the floor but my point is that a) the shooting numbers didn’t bear that out comparatively and b) plenty of guys I’d have pushed out instead.

But perhaps it was his own decision. He clearly wasn’t valued, whether justifiably or not.

What shooting numbers are you talking about? He was 15-33 from 2, 5-10 FT and 2-4 from 3.

I saw different stats on the spiderathletics website that had him at .333 from 3 and 83.3 from FT.

I’m really not interested in arguing about him, I just thought he looked like a better shooter than guys like B Artis, Graham and Tyne.

Agree with you. While he didn't look like an all A10 performer, looked pretty solid in limited minutes, and actually looked to have a quick rise and release by comparison to the other guys.

LOL. Well, I didn't think anyone was arguing here, but I guess it would help if we each knew who we were talking about. I will just stick with my opinion that I saw nothing from GW3 or Soulis that told me they could be good A-10 players.

Looked pretty solid? Yikes. I think you said the same about Soulis? Or, are u talking about Soulis here? I can't keep up.

I had higher hopes for Soulis. I didn't think he would have an impact year 1 because he was younger and I believe reclassified to come to UR, but I thought this past year would be a step in the right direction to show some signs of what he can do. Unfortunately - only appearing in 20 games for a 10 win team does not instill a lot of confidence. Could he become a solid A10 player? Possible - but those days of developing a player to see what they become are over.

One thing with Soulis, not sure at what point he got healthy. But he definitely was seen in a boot following freshman year. Big men tend to develop slower, and losing a ton of time did not help. But we saw some flashes in the limited time, so really this is a blow. Folks can say we can try to replace with a one year portal wonder. But as we know - decent big men are super valuable in the portal. And moon is on record and we know would rather develop big men. Really Soulis and Walz were the two I did not want to lose. I like the guards we picked up, but not seeing them being able to dominate on both ends of the floor - so looking like it will boil down to a lot of hope on guys developing.
