Nathan Davis

Terry Allen made a steal and then threw a bad pass. CM immediately yanked him, and as TA walked towards his seat, Mooney said loud enough for many to hear, "You are a f***ing embarrassment!".

PoS should take a look in the mirror sometime.

Actually, that sounds like a great idea for a cardboard sign. You know, similar to ''Fly the Coop"

Fake nice guy I like to call him.

Here is the thing about Coach Moonbeam. When he first took over, he was pretty feisty/fiery on the sidelines, and his language could get pretty salty. It was obvious to me that someone in the AD or even higher told him to tone it down/dial it back. So during the middle part of his tenure, he did a decent job controlling himself (the UNCC meltdown being a notable exception). The past few years however, he has generally lacked any kind of emotion either positive or negative, and it seems like he has just been mailing it in, biding his time until his deal runs out.

I do think he is a fake nice guy. But being a fake nice guy shouldn't get you $1.3M a year without actually accomplishing something.

I don’t feel comfortable with calling him a fake nice guy. I’ve never heard a player
or anyone allude to that.
Besides, I think personal attacks are a little over the top. We all know he needs to go,
but I don’t see the need to kick him while he’s down.

I had heard that during his first couple years that he was not a very nice guy. I've bought into the argument that he is a pretty nice guy as a result of some other indicators.

Most likely, like most of us, there are some that think we are pretty wonderful, and others who don't! It's all dependent on how they catch us at any given moment.

I do agree that he lost his fire once he was told to calm down, though. He's never been the same since Charlotte.

If Nathan Davis brings this Sestina kid along as a grad transfer, we'd have the best interior in the A10 next year.

Good game on CBS SN right now. Bison up 6 at half. Lehigh is a solid club too.

Not sure why Im sticking up for the guy, but I think his lack of obvious sideline language/antics has a lot to do with his kids being of age to understand at this point. And trust me, he still uses his classic "you are so fvcking stupid" at least twice a night.

I agree, let’s find out what’s in that little cup!

Davis apparently grew up in DC, so GW fans think they have a shot at him. Have to think if he's Hardt's guy again, we win that battle. Hardt will have a lot of good options to choose from, though.

Talking to college head coach friend of mine, he doesn’t think Davis is more than a mediocre coach in the A-10. Has met him many times and attended his camp. Says he was really disappointed in how low energy he and his camp were. Said he thinks he’d have difficulty recruiting at our level.

PA that is my concern, whether he can recruit at our level. You can't argue with what he has done at Bucknell, he has dominated that league in his 4 years there. Hardt knows him best, I think if Hardt has the gnads to fire Mooney, he is not going to hire another potential Mooney clone if he goes with Davis.

PA, I hear you, but sometimes guys are wrong. I know a guy who was a big time h.s. coach in CT, college assistant, a lot of cred. I have seen a state D1 coach come over to pick his brain while we were at a camp. D3 coach at a top 25ish D3 program goes to him for advice. This guy told me once that the worst run practice he has ever seen was Jim Calhoun. If Davis could come close to replicating an .800 winning % in conference, like he has done at 2 stops - I would take him. Every single coach we have listed, and on the Goodman's list has ? marks. I think Davis has less than most. But yes, we don't know if he can recruit. His teams do play very disciplined and acheive, so I am not as worried about any lack of energy comments.

Whichever of you guys interviews Mr. Davis, please ask him if he is familiar with the words Box-out and Rebound. Free throw would be a nice bonus word also. Thank you.

To clarify, Hardt knows Davis well because he hired him, so he would know if he has Mooney traits or not. I'm not saying Davis has does, I don't know. And if Hardt does fire Mooney, it is because of those very traits (poor leadership, low energy, lack of accountability, can't recruit and most obviously lack of results).

I personally think Hardt is tired of the excuses from Mooney. I have yet to hear Hardt publicly actually praise Mooney for anything. He talks a lot about they are on the same page as to the program needs to get better, but that is the extent. I think Hardt wants to can Mooney, whether he has the go ahead from the BOT and major donors is an entirely different question.

Look at how he did Shafer. No public comments all year one way or the other, called him into his office at the end of the year and axed him. Shafer doesn't have a 3 plus million dollar golden parachute providing him protection.

Good points, I have not really heard much praise from Hardt either, regarding Mooney. That may be a promising sign. Problem may be that PQ is fully entrenched in LAX season, and thinking what the heck, let's wait until next year. I can enjoy my LAX.

No thanks. Need to see what he does with his own recruits and we can't wait for that. Don't forget, everybody looks like a good coach against us.
He's looked like a good coach against many other teams as well.

Shouldn't praise be a reflection of accomplishments & wins versus losses? Of course there are those who would see praise in other things that don't reflect performance.

Good stuff PA. I am certainly not opposed to thinking outside the box. Chris Beard at Texas Tech was a D2 coach, then D1 for one year prior to Texas Tech. Watch them play and you can see the coaching very evident. Love this article you linked. That is a guy that can coach and does not accept guys that are not doing things 100% correct. Defense too, which is seemingly not something Mooney teaches.

Agreed. Plus I like Davidson’s system. They’re similar to us in many ways, so we know it could work here too.

Too much Colgate for Bucknell tonight. Bison didnt do enough to run them off the 3 point line in the first half and dug a big hole. Made a couple runs in the 2nd half but ran out of steam. Entertaining game.
