Morehead State

I'm not super concerned about Cayo only getting one rebound. We outrebounded Morehead by 6, only gave up 6 offensive boards (and we had 8 ourselves), and Burton was flying in to vacuum everything up. Morehead also shot 30 threes, so there were a good number of long rebounds that Blake and Gilly were able to get.

Andre weir didn’t dress, coaches decision. Anyone know what’s up

per JOC RTD

“...Andre Weir, a 6-10 freshman who wasn’t expected to play much early this season, did not suit up for the game because Mooney recognized “a couple of things [Weir] hasn’t done as well as we expect and has not met the standards necessarily...”

Oh boy, is this a #FreeQuis moment? If not, Mooney is embarrassing Weir for absolutely no reason
I'm doubting there was absolutely no reason.
hopefully this is a one-time wake up call never needed again. the last healthy scratch I remember didn't end well.

Apparently, still not ready. He was cleared for "basketball activities" 5 months ago, a poster stated he had a pulled groin a few weeks back, so not sure. An A10 blogger concurred with me on Noah's podcast, that Crabtree could be critical to replace Sherod's 3pt shooting. Really want to see Burton shoot it 35%. I think at 25% again tonight, though small sample.
Yes, I have/had high hopes for him. Not a good start. The longer he’s out the more difficult it will be for him to work himself into the rotation.

We got out of this game what we wanted. A solid win, while limiting the minutes of our starters so they are fresh for Sunday. Grant only played 23 minutes, with a solid 17 minutes by Grace. There were a lot of positives.

1. The 1st 10 minutes of the 2nd half we played terrific basketball on both end of the court, which is what I think we are capable of playing like in most games.
2. Gilly, Blake, Cayo and Grant had very solid games.
3. Burton showed tremendous athleticisms. He just needs to either start making 3s or stop trying to make 3s like Cayo did last year.
4. Wilson look very impressive for a freshman

Negatives

1. Sol played 17 minutes and had an ok game. I wish he wouldn't try so many 3s. Mooney must have a lot of confidence in him to give him that many minutes. I expect we will see better games from Sol.
2. Not having Crabtree and Gus

Sunday is going to be difficult, but this team has the potential to upset Kentucky. I just wouldn't bet my house on it.

if DM had not had a COVID issue, we would the KY game would have been on SEC Network. they certainly weren't going to broadcast a non-SEC game.
1. This wasn't a TV broadcast. The only way the "folks at home" could watch the game was for Richmond to take the feed from the stadium coverage and put it on YouTube. Nothing more nothing less. Instead of bitching about it--thanks to Bob and the rest of the AD for figuring out a way for us to view. (I can't wait to hear the bitching about the FLO TV coverage vs. C of C)
2. For the the 1Mth time, everyone who plays college sports this year is getting a redshirt. From Trevor Lawrence to the walk on at Prarie View AM, gets an additional year.

3. Great to see the board in midseason form after an 18 point win.

Is there any reason we should NOT expect to beat Kentucky? Seriously. Most of their players are 18 or 19. They've played one college game together. I don't care how talented they were in high school, this is a big difference. Our guys have been playing together for years and are 21 and 22. I'll be disappointed if we don't win tomorrow.

Well the one reason UR shouldn’t expect to win is because Kentucky has NBA talent on their roster and UR doesn’t. That’s great that UR is very experienced but they aren’t all that experienced in big games and at the end of the day NBA talent trumps experience.

I know it won’t change your opinion of the coach, but if this team finds a way to be undefeated on Monday 12/14, would that change your opinion of the team?

Look if UR wins tomorrow I will start believing in them some. I always call it like I see it and if they beat Kentucky I can’t deny that they’re a good team. Sometimes good players can overcome bad coaching, I’m just not used to see that happening with Mooney’s teams except for the last two seasons of Anderson and Harper.

I really don't see us winning tomorrow. maybe give some extra motivation. I never have believed in Mooney.

A very good 1st game. Love these guys. Great chemistry..very unselfish. As good as Blake is, he didn't even worry about getting a shot until several minutes into the game. These guys trust each other. Very excited about this team!

Last 3 years we've lost the opening game twice and should have lost the third one (against really crappy teams AT HOME), so yeah, I'm good with this win.

Where is all of this redshirt talk coming from?

He was held out of one game for not living up to expectations of Mooney and the program in some unspecified way. And there is literally zero reason to redshirt anyone given the extra eligibility due to COVID.
