Monday 2pm Vs. Wofford

I will take it! We just need wins. Great final 2 minutes. What a huge 3 by Grant, and huge buckets from Burton and Jacob in the last minute. And, Nate got well at the FT line hitting 4 straight late. The guys delivered when we needed it!

Struggling on defense generally and especially without Gus out there. And offensively I don’t like going to Cato so much. We get stagnant when he gets it. Should be going to Golden down there because he is much better passer out of that spot.
When games get close and the game slows down, I'm comfortable with Cayo in isolation getting those hard buckets and getting to the line. You need that at the end of games and we saw it Tonight.

Because of his aggressiveness in the second half the attention the Wofford gave him on defense opened the floor up for Grant to hit that pivotal 3-pointer at the end.

Thats what I like about this team every player plays an important role in the offensive attack.

If you foul, you foul. The calls were fine. Wofford is not going to draw many fouls chucking 3s on nearly every possession.
Yeah, just because the fouls are uneven doesn't mean the refs helped us. They spent the entire second half bombing away. To their credit, they made a bunch of them. Kudos.

Also thought it was odd that CM didn't call a timeout to get GG back in the game on the play where Jake hit the step back 3 to put us up 4. I guess it worked out though!

Only had one left which I think he wanted to save in case we ended up trailing in the last seconds

who knows? Wofford might be good. Murphy can play.

love Gilyard's post game comments from the floor. basically said he doesn't think we've played well yet. not for a full game anyway. maybe a half or 15 minutes. "we can be better". "we've got to be better".

sounds like a future coach.

This game is a classic example of why veteran teams win the majority of their close games. Spiders did not play that well and easily could have lost. However, been around forever Gilyard and Golden made big shots (and even Cayo's free throws) when they were needed. 2-years ago, this one would have gone down as a loss.

Might need to tamper expectations a little bit. Turns out Kentucky might not be that good and barely beating a middle of the pack in SoCon Wofford isn’t a great look. Prove me wrong.

Oh look, super fanboy 712 is back from his covid-spreading team greeting at the Rob after the Kentucky game to puff up his muscles behind his keyboard and start throwing shade again. Yay. I believe according to you they just need to go 9-15 the rest of the way, right?

Oh so I’m at fault for the teams COViD pause? Makes sense.

Yes in fact how man timers have we lead in number of fouls when teams are attacking us inside and we are throwing up 3s? We could have put them away early if we had committed to pounding the ball low to Cayo, Golden and Burton. They did not have anyone to defend our bigs and we chose to throw up 3s or wild drives. Rarely do we have a bigs dominance, but this game we did.

We won against a decent team after having not practiced in a week and had the disappointment and frustration of the covid stoppage. Kind of impressive that we dealt w all of the bs and won imo.
COVID isn’t as big of an excuse as everyone makes it to be. Every other team is dealing with it. This is starting to sound like how a lot of people blame Virginia Tech’s bad year in football on cOViD

Prove you wrong? Name a time before last year where we are up 12 mid second half to then go down by 5 with 2 min left to comeback and win by 5?

Your friend's cousin in Australia says so. So it must be true.

agreed. I'd like to see a shot chart. we hit 20 two point baskets and I think like 18 of them were pretty easy layups.

Jake & Blake were both just 2 for 7 on two point baskets.

I was at work and avoided all spoilers. Wow my heart rate shot through the roof the final 10 minutes. This feels like a game we would have lost for most of the past 6-7 seasons. Didn’t play well enough but wow it is nice knowing we can actually grind out a win!

this game is exhibit A on why college basketball has been so far and COULD be very disjointed this year. Coaches and players thrive on routines and so far the season for us (and definitely others) has been far from it.

Young teams are going to struggle. Veteran times are going to be in vogue. Whether its a 5 point win of 15 point win, you get a W, go back to your dorm/apartment and wait for the next COVID test.

The Kentuckys/Dukes, etc of the world, that have large roster turnovers, are really going to struggle for a while with practice being potentially limited.

after sleeping on it, I feel a little better about things. Taking into account a total team hibernation of over a week leading up to this and Wofford is not a doormat..wish we had treated them like one but still. We escaped with the win which is the bottom line of what we needed to do. Let's get another one tomorrow night shall we

Yep, with our ranking, we just need to win, any way we can. Even when Wofford took the lead, I was 99% sure we would win, and Gilly really just took control and closed it out. I think the team will come out wide awake for both the UNI and WVA games.
Mooney, like what he is doing. Only complaint is would like to see Grant play more. But flip side is the load management works, AND Grant tends to foul, or get called for fouls and get angry with the refs. I don't have too much of a problem with that as I think it is just his competitive nature - but could hurt us if its a game where he picks up no. 3 and then immediately no. 4 with a tech. I don't want to see extended minutes Grace and Sal vs WVA, SLU front lines, or even UMASS (if they ever play this year).

But overall I think Mooney is doing very well this year. Just go get another big athletic forward for next season.

Who cares whether we win by 1, 5, or 20? We are ranked #19 in the country and are 3-0. Wofford's last coach was so "great" that the "mighty" Hokes came a'calling ...who knows at this point how "good/great" Wofford's current coach is? We did what we needed to down the stretch and opportunity for a 5 point play knocked me out of my armchair as I kept looking at my empty seat in the Robins Center!
