MLAX Preseason Poll-UR #20

Well - the Spiders play 4 higher ranked teams in their OOC season. If this program is going to take the next step - beyond just making the NCAA tourney and losing first round - this appears to be the year to do it as it looks like they Spiders have a lot returning from their NCAA team last year.

How are we able to get so many good teams to play us here every year? Some of them might be competing for an at-large spot with us… especially if we beat them.

Home and Home plus Chemotti is highly thought of in coaching ranks.Bus ride too.

Dom Starsia, former UVA HC,lent immediate credibility to the URLAX program by scheduling us at the Brickhouse in our Year 1.Dom is/was thought of a LAX god.Lucky for us he provides live anaylst commentary on our home ESPN+ games

Richmond (was No. 20)
The Spiders don’t really deserve to slip out of the rankings, but the combination of taking a 12-11 loss (albeit in double overtime) to Maryland and the need to make room for Colgate after its unexpected victory at Penn State means Richmond gets squeezed out. But perhaps not for too long.
The Spiders effectively played the Terrapins even, not just on the scoreboard but in shots (36 each), shots on goal (Richmond 24-22), ground balls (Maryland 27-26) and turnovers (Maryland 17-16). It was a true toss up, and with a loaded home schedule, no one should be astonished if Dan Chemotti’s experienced team wins one or two high-profile games — either early in the season or come May..

Big game Sat. with UVA. The thing with playing these big games - like Maryland, UVA, Duke, G-Town, etc is that you got to win 1 of them. The key to Lacrosse taking the next step - which would be advancing in the NCAA tourney likely start with these games. With some of them, then get the NCAA bid and get a good seed so that maybe the opening game is on the lighter side, before facing the top teams. But it might very start with these big OOC games.
