Miles Thomas - Small forward

Oh and looking at verbal commits, I am going to assume the tweet 15 hours ago about the style editor of the today show having a baby yesterday named Miles Thomas wasn't really about this player and just got pulled in erroneously.

Had not seen any stats on Miles; found this in a Knoxville newspaper:
"Thomas, a 6-foot-6, 170-pound athlete, averaged 16 points, 8 rebounds, 3.7 blocks and 2.3 assists last season, helping South-Doyle reach the Region 1-AAA tournament."

Miles has the kind of talent that, I believe, would be extremely difficult to turn down, if the visit goes well, and he is interested. Also, he has the kind of defensive skill-set that we absolutely need in our last two recruits in this cycle. Like a couple of the posters above, I absolutely believe Miles can play the 4 for us, and maybe sub at the 5, if we had a need. He can be a rim-protector, and we need that in the worst way.

If things work out, and we add Miles to this class, he becomes the replacement for Deion Taylor, the strong defender who can play the 3, 4 or 5, if needed. Does anyone on this board, after watching this full video, seriously think we should turn down Miles, if both sides feel good about each other? I think he would be a perfect 3rd commit for us, and (fingers crossed) hope we get the good news in the next 4-5 days. He is an A-1 defender and an A-1 athlete, who also can handle, rebund and shoot. Could we use this skill-set? Just imagine a team with Miles,Nick and Demonte, playing together. That would be a lot of fun for all three recruits, and there would be lots of highlights, for Spider fans, in that scenario!!!

I agree I don't see him as a 5. But it did cause me to wonder, who played the defensive 5 when ANO was injured? TJ definitely played the offensive 5 but on defense?

Whoever switches onto the opponent's big man plays the defensive 5 for us. Sometimes K0 ended up playing the defensive 5, that usually didn't work out to well but we eventually started double teaming when a mismatch like that happened.

Deion ended up being our primary interior defender after ANO got hurt. But Deion plays bigger than 6'7".

170? Better add some muscle in senior year or he'll get knocked around easily as a freshman no matter where he goes. Our front court probably averages 220+.

I don't think he could realistically play the 5, just doesn't seem big enough. DWill was "short" at 6'6" but really strong and long arms. I don't think we are constrained by prototype size requirements, but I think a bigger combination of size and weight would be warranted.

I haven't seen any evidence that it occurred.

Would make sense, if one is of the mindset that there was 1 ship available for a small forward type of player and Sherod locked that up on Friday. The last 2 ships for this class will go to guys who can legitimately play the 4 or 5.

Miles is a 3 and a very talented one. no way, no how does he play the 4, much less the 5. if CM still wants a 3, I'm on board because the kid looks awesome. but our current pressing needs for this class are in the frontcourt.
