Mens: Fla Tech in the Gulf Coast Classic - Monday 11/25 - 6pm - on fabulous FloHoops

So I think we are missing the bigger point here about Moon Man. Multiple good things about Moon this season!

1. He brilliantly assessed his talent level this year. This is so important at this level. So many coaches mis-assess their talent. Even Moon in the past. But not this year. He was clearly ahead of the curve etc. Which leads to point 2 - scheduling brilliance. Having correctly assessed that he has very little talent this time, he actually figured out a schedule that might prevent the 4-27 disaster that might have been awaiting and got us out of any any OOC games against Top 200 teams and into position to maybe go 10-21 if we are lucky. Even tried to get us out of Auburn game but was foiled by the contract. But overall scheduling brilliance to possibly avoid the epic disaster and elevate us to just a regular disaster!

That’s some 4D chess.

Glad to see Roche doing well. But moon screwed the pooch again this season. Ever since we tied for A10 last year it has been one large exhale and pat yourself on the back. Even Boyden seems soft this season.

To beat the drum again: Culture of comfort.
I get about Hurley Mr. Spider, he is a douche. But if u watch a YouTube of his practices (bunch out there), it is all about making guys uncomfortable, and pushing to get better, and not let anything slide. Every practices is a war and gets you ready for games. We are all about flow and softness.

Chris should self-fund a bonus for Roche's NIL package.
the guy he played 7 minutes in a game 3 games back? The (coach described) best defensive forward we have who has averaged 19.5 the last 2 games (who btw in case you missed the first part of my post, got 7m three games back.)

Wonder if he'll figure out it's his offensive system. It doesn't let guys play free, loose basketball unless they have been in it for 2-3 years together with most or all of the same guys around them and requires certain archetypes, while ignoring many others. Defense is a lot on the athleticism of the players, but his offensive system is derivative of one designed to limit possessions in games to keep overmatched Princeton teams close to teams with more talent. The 5+ minute scoring droughts have happened for two decades. Aggressive, athletic defenses wreak havoc (no pun intended) on Moonball. There is a clear ceiling to this style in general (one S16 in 20 years should be enough of a sample size) and that ceiling lowers in years of veteran player turnover. He seems to not realize it but even if he did, I doubt he would change anything.

Tied in 2nd half vs a D2 team in front of maybe 50 fans is a rough look.

Besides 7 min game Roche also 12 mins in the OT game. Seems to happen regularly. Doesn’t know who is better & to give them time. Remember somehow Noyes and Jaynel beat out Dji back 2 back year too.

6 pts from our bench against a d2 team not sure that was even possible.

6 points from one guy, zero for the rest.

1 bench point for every person in attendance.

Serious question: was the team shooting 50% from 3 in preseason the anomaly or the norm? The data says it was the anomaly…I just can’t believe we are this bad at shooting the 3 with a bunch of supposed shooters.

I was thinking about this… How much money did it cost FloSports to broadcast this game and pay everyone it took to do that, and how on earth could the return financially justify it? How many people bought this game, 50? 100?

I didn’t. Mercifully.

Honestly this MTE was pay to play. Just like Fake NIL! We & other teams paid the Gulf Coast organizers & they paid Flo. I expect Flo was getting their costs covered at minimum.

Hurley obviously does a lot right in terms of preparing players and coaching, but I would NEVER want an ass like that on our campus. As much as tonight was awful and I've been vocally frustrated with Mooney for a long time, I wouldn't even consider trading Mooney for a high caliber coach like that who is a complete asshole.

I didn’t either, barely even listened to it on the radio.
Didn’t watch nor listen. Watched latest Yellowstone. Way more action.

Hey, we r undefeated this season against D-2 teams. That does say something. Maybe we should start scheduling several each year.

Time to tune into the women's team. Make a statement. Don't show up for the men's games and instead fill the RC for the women's games! Go Spiders!

Brilliant, insightful comment by the coach. Has his finger on the pulse of this team, for sure.
This is actually the first year Mooney has been completely honest about the team's performance and progress to date. I find it actually refreshing.

Well, can you imagine the response if he said "Well, you know, I'm just glad we got the win. It was a tough opponent tonight and we persevered at the end. So proud of our guys for staying tough and fighting. We have areas to improve, but we're getting better each day."
