Definitely not a liability. And, 2 years ago, he was 3.6-9.4 from 3 per 40 minutes for us, and the year before at The Citadel he was 3.9-9.9 from 3 per 40 minutes. So, this talk about he got way more shots and looks when in there at The Citadel than here is just not accurate.

he got a shot up every 4 seconds in his Citadel highlight reel, and hit 100% of them too!
we have a lot of needs to fill, including a shooter like Becht.

and yet of the 20 targets we have left, 3 took 15 or fewer 3's and 6 others had 3 point shooting percentages in the 20's.
I'm pretty confident we have contacted more guys than you think, and does your post above mean 11 of the 20 were good from 3? And, don't forget Harris became a key piece last year and Bigs was in the 20s 2 years ago.
Harris was a perfect role player last year, bought into whatever was asked of him, which was defense, rebounding and corner 3s. Hopefully there are guys like that each year, but who knows what kind of role any kid is looking for as a transfer. I'm fairly confident that our staff is laying out that kind of situation for transfers who aren't expected to be starters, like Harris. You obviously can't promise 5 returnees and multiple transfers that they'll all start and be 25-30 mpg guys but can promise them a shot at proving they belong in the rotation of a team expecting to win in the A10.
I expect most of the role player guys are guys like Harris, one year transfers looking to move up for a final year. Finding the glue guy who can easily translate his lower level stats - even if modest numbers - is an interesting aspect of the portal.
Also, i agree it's not Roche's shooting numbers that worry me at all, it's his opportunity. If he's healthy this coming year, they just have to let him shoot away, we need scoring badly.

currently 66 guys we know we reached out to. I'm sure there are a few others.
of the 66, we landed Beagle. 45 committed elsewhere. 20 remain uncommitted.
11 of those 20 we're fine from 3.
Becht was by far the best at 44.8% ... with the caveat that it was in D2.
the other 10 range from 32.3% to 37.4%.
I know for a fact that we are in touch with players and have had more visits than the google sheet would suggest.

Yes as much as some are downgrading on here, I believe Jordan King did pretty good moving up from a lower conference. This guys game appears very much different than Roche's to me. Hope we are still in on Deuce or Matt, both look like they can fill it up.

Right, was thinking that. That seemed to be the assumption - that in this portal speed dating model a player only visits if there is an offer. Not sure if that is accurate, but seems like it would be. Who knows what goes on, but could be he was looking for more guaranteed playing time - based on his landing spot.
Maybe he got here and went 0 for 100 on threes while being defended by our video guy, who knows.

I'm biased, but I can't imagine being offered and visiting UR and not falling in love with it. but you have to figure out where you fit in. time isn't guaranteed. might not want to risk being a role player in your final year.

Yep, in my mind this was maybe the deciding factor. I think our staff is very honest with players - and maybe could not give him assurances to his role being exactly what he was looking for.
There’s zero chance we were offering him anything close to the same PT Merrimack is, or else he’d be here. That says to me that we didn’t really miss out.

Continue to think the a jump from d-2 to an A-10 team is a pretty big leap. I think Becht may have felt that too. He can go to Merrimack and probably get big minutes, whereas here, he is more likely in a Roche like situation. Not surprising he went with the better fit.says we offered.

Players look at rosters and know who is gone and who is coming back. He will likely be starting at Merrimack, and is probably not worried about who they might pick up after after he signs. If he chose here or a few other schools, he has fewer guarantees and those schools could still have a better chance than Merrimack of landing someone better after he signs, lowering his playing time more.
All these guys don't want the same thing. My guess is the most important thing for Becht was being a starter with lots of playing time on a D1 team that has a chance of making the dance. Maybe he looked at the guy from Oakland last year and said "that could be me".

Choosing Merrimack over Richmond is the same decision we hop many of the players we are recruiting make when they get offers from P6 schools. Choose the school that is the best fit for you and not necessarily the one that is playing at the highest level. Likely a good, mature decision by Becht.
