There is a lot of discussion about the Dayton game, but we need to get by La Salle first. They seem to be a mediocre team at 10-7 with a NET of 174 and RPI at 118. With that said, they almost beat Road Island at RI in their last game. It looks like they play 8 guys at around 20 minutes a game. They are not great shooters, but pretty good on defense. Hopefully we can win by 10.

Just win................still missing Dr. G as LaSalle coach.................his "musings" were classics..............and made post game interviews worth hearing..................

Yes, we need to give this thread some love and not overlook La Salle. They have not played as well lately but as noted have had some good efforts. We wouldn't want them taking a W and then talking about how the 56 page Dayton thread on Spidernation inspired them. Getting to all be must win games.

But boy, if we could have a Dayton/VCU sweep we would be on fire.

Most of the score prediction services show a win by the Spiders over LaSalle of 10 to 13 points. Sounds good, but we were 12 point favorites over St. Louis. That did not end well.

I understand being cautious but this is a game any decent Spider team should win handily. La Salle has a decent record but it's inflated by playing one of the easiest schedules in the country.

A home loss to La Salle is probably a bubble burster (would be our worst loss of the year). As long as there's no looking ahead to Dayton by the guys (and I don't think there will be) I think we will come out and take care of business.

Agreed - not a game we can overlook. Good news is this game is at home, but even with that said - I don't see us blowing any teams out. Think it will be closer and similar to the George Mason game. Our defense will allow them to score off the dribble - but I would expect us to have more offensive weapons and be able to outscore them.
Spiders 88 LaSalle 79

All we need to do is look at Radford to see what happens when the team doesnt get up for a game. CM better have this team play like their are firecrackers in their shorts from the start. If this team comes out flat and plays uninspired, it is all on Mooney. Lets not have a letdown here Spiders!! Bury LaSalle!!

of course it is. Its never the players fault.

I haven't observed a letdown since A10 play began. Saint Louis is good, and a bad matchup for us.
We've just won two games in buildings where we got walloped last season. Once we pulled away, I never felt the outcome was in doubt, despite the "letting the air out of the ball" anxiety that some - justifiably - felt.
Things are different this year.
I think.

Ed Croswell is a monster offensive rebounder, and their wing players have good size, even if they are not stellar offensively. Definitely a recipe for trouble if Grant and Cayo play as soft tomorrow as they did defensively against Mason.

Frankly, Cayo can't continue to only grab 3 or 4 boards a game, and if he does, I'm in favor of swapping him and Burton and having Burton log more time at the 4. I want the Cayo that showed up the last 30 minutes against RI, where he went and got rebounds.

I think the team will be ready to play, especially since Francis will still be out of the lineup - guys like Burton, Wojcik, and Gustav should be looking at this like an opportunity to showcase what they can do so when Francis does return - they can still warrant minutes rather than just allow Francis to play 35 a night down the stretch.

Factor that should help in this game contrasted with the Radford debacle is playing in the friendly confines of the Robins Center. Yes Billikens beat us at home .....for our only at home loss this season.............and playing at home does not guarantee a win......but atmosphere should help............. also think the team will not take this game for granted....................

I have seen LaSalle play parts of several games this season -- they are long and athletic and have some skill. We cannot take them lightly even at home.

They don’t seem very good but can be spurts. Didn’t they just lose at URI by three?

You cannot sleep on anyone in the league. That’s pretty much it.

We are one game behind the top of the conference, no reason to operate like we can’t win the regular season crown. It’s a tall order but not Brobdingnagian.

Players can be blamed for many things but being ready to play and motivated for all games is on the coach. How many times have yo heard a Coach K team say... oh we just werent ready to play or they wanted it more than us... it doesnt happen. So yes imo it is the responsibility of CM to have this team ready and motivated for every game, especially against the weaker teams.

I am probably overlooking LaSalle a little. A serious NCAA contender (which I think we are) cannot lose a quad 4 home game (which I don't think we will). As a fan it's okay to look past this game a little. The players and coaches can't, and I don't think they will.

Ray Tate used to tell a story about one of Frank Jones's team's. Even if you have a far superior team, they sometimes just are not mentally focused. These are 18-22 year old kids. They are student athletes, not professionals.

Damn there are some folks here taking this game for granted. That's a dangerous game.

The worst thing, LaSalle leads the A-10 in Offensive Rebounding
The best thing, LaSalle leads the A-10 in turning over the ball & putting opponents at the line

Leading in offensive rebounding also means they miss a lot of shots

Dangerous would be our players and coaches taking this game for granted.

What's not dangerous is for me, a fan, to expect my team to win a home game against a team we are 120 spots ahead of in the ratings.

gospidersgo, you better get your head straight and focus. if you're in your seat or on your couch and not giving 100% ... if you as a fan overlook LaSalle and we lose ... it's on you.

Bold Prediction - Golden or Cayo gets a double double. With all the missed shots LaSalle will throw up, rebounding will be key tonight and hoping one of them pulls down 10+ boards to go with 10-12 points.

I'm doing something I never do with my favorite team...
The line is down to 9.
Lay it.

You're welcome.

I'm a little nervous about tonight but more worried about the trip to Philly later this season.

Of course, I said that last year too...

Two other games tonight might clear some things up as well.

Duquesne @ URI

Are you going to bet on Richmond to cover? If so, please tell us how much you earned. May one presume that you are becoming a little enthusiastic about Spider basketball?
I generally avoid anything involving the teams I root for, and if I do it's tiny. I never disclose amounts. :)
I did jump on St. Louis to win outright a few games back.
Tonight feels like a double digit Spider win to me. Enjoy the game.
