La Salle

Good win, took care of business and kept the game well out of reach the entire time. A little sloppy at times but I think that was partly the product of lots of different lineup combinations that don't normally play together. Really great to see Burton hitting his stride now.

Sspiders played a nice game and shot the ball well for 30 minutes tonight. Got sloppy the last 7 minutes or so. Our passing was suspect. Refs must have called traveling on us 6 times in the first half alone. If the passing and handling the press doesn’t get better quick, it’s going to be a long week. I am sure you guys noticed that Gilyard has lost a lot of confidence in his passing and shooting. Not sure what’s wrong there.

I thought the guys looked great. It may have been that LaSalle played terribly or we forced them to play terribly (or both).

I do have one question that continues to befuddle me. Why are we the only team in basketball history that puts its shortest players on the lane when we are shooting free throws? What am I missing?

If anybody sees a video of the Wojcik crossover 3 that they called a foul on, please post it on here. I thought it was a bogus call but didn’t have a great angle to see it live. Woj had him on skates
Looked like a bad call to me

Spiders came out playing a physical game and took LaSalle out of their game early. Very good defense by Richmond. Burton is special and is getting more confident every game. Getting more minutes with Francis out and big lead. Sloppiness was mostly a function of the lead and lots of playing time for bench. Baffling to me - all of the starters played limited time except Gilyard. A key player we cannot afford to lose. He played 40 minutes last game and 37 in this one. He should have been on the bench half of the game with Dayton coming up. I think his 4 turnovers and missed free throws were due to fatigue.

From where I was sitting last night sounded like the LaSalle coach sent an unprintable word in Grant's direction when Grant came to scorer's table after having his thumb taped. Heard Grant say before that - had to get thumb taped because of bleeding. LaSalle coach went on short tirade in Grant's direction. After the game as players went by each other the coach stopped and talked to Grant longer than usual and Grant nodded his head to indicate he had heard him. It was strange and if the coach said what it sounded like he said he should have received a technical.

73, Agree - I didn't catch first half but at the end of the game I was saying get Gilyard out of there. Seemed like a recipe for disaster and he is a guy that we definitely need fresh legs for the next two games.

Good to see bench guys get some minutes. You had Burton at 21, Wojcik at 24, and even Sal and Grace both getting over 10 minutes. We will need them to play against Dayton, so good thing they got some time here as well.
Hate to see Gilyard out there for 37, but as you can see - we have no other PG's on the team outside of him and Francis. I would expect Gustav could handle the duties for a few minutes, but looking at Dayton - expect Gilyard to play all 40 minutes.

had his hand on the defenders hip. barely pushed if at all. but that was the call.

we're not. a lot of teams do this. usually to get into a press and get their big men back. plus to protect against big man fouls which are more common than offensive rebounds on a missed free throw.

Thanks for the explanation. I recognize the intent of getting your bigs back, I don’t think we press often enough to explain that aspect but I hadn’t considered the frequency in fouling. That makes more sense especially since we are shooting far better this year.
