Yes, it is my opinion. I think that was clear from my post. He asked for his release more than a week ago and it has not been granted yet. If you can think of other reasons, please enlighten us.

I'm sure CM and his assistants would love to change Khwan's mind. Might have asked him to sleep on it. Maybe they're helped reach out to programs to see if he can find the kind of situation he's looking for. Who knows.

But if Khwan officially asked for his release it would be news already. Even if it wasn't granted right away. He doesn't need permission to ask for a release and go public with it. He's chosen not to so far. I'm curious.

Yes inquiring minds want to know - where does he want to go? Is it close to home? Please tell me it is not like Alonzo Nelson-Ododa and he ends up at Pitt so he can play in the ACC? Not surprised no details have "leaked"..............

I'm sure he wouldn't go public with it before giving the school the chance to grant it. But if for some reason it drags on, maybe that would change.

I've thought for a long time that Khwan might go home and play for Alabama or Auburn as a grad transfer. He would be a great 6th man for either team and obviously his chances of going to an NCAA tournament in his last year are much higher (sadly).

The Tennessee schools are about as close to Huntsville as Alabama and Auburn. Looking at the map there are options. It appears a freshman PG started at Alabama. The coach's son was the backup. Bruce Pearl at Auburn and Avery Johnson at Alabama. Rick Barnes up in Knoxville.

I guess, but I see tweets every day that so-and-so "has asked for his release".

if we're not granting for some reason (which seems unlikely to me) the quickest way to change that is to let everyone know you've asked and it hasn't been granted.

Right, but what I'm suggesting is that Khwan is not out here trying to burn bridges. Most likely he just wants to play at a school that is bigger and has a better chance of making the tournament, not crap all over Mooney and UR on his way out the door. So he is waiting patiently.

Could it be as simple as the approvals, paperwork and release statement take time? As a scientist, I generally go by Occam's razor.

Anything is possible, but I don't think too much is required on the end of the school granting the release. Seems like a week and a half would have been enough time for that to happen.

very considerate if that's it, but he's got to look out for himself and go find a good spot if he's leaving.

another thought ... he is only a red shirt junior. maybe graduating early isn't a slam dunk and he's been told to wait to get a final exam score.

Release is ultimately the AD's decision, but obviously coach has a major role in the decision. Not saying it's the case here and we have a new AD, but we've definitely strung some guys out for extended periods of time in the past.

Still nothing out in the “real world” about Fore doing anything.

I'm sure that if he has a preferred place to play, those coaches know he is leaving and interested. It's easy enough to relay the message. And it is possible that the graduation thing is an issue, but it would be an issue for many grad transfers since it's only April 2 and a lot of them won't actually graduate until May.

does anyone remember the Gonzalvez situation? did he ask and not get a release?

Don't know for certain - like many posts on this board - but the "public" version was that Gonzo had a change of heart/mind and decided to stay a Spider.

Mooney has discussed that one in the past, or maybe Gonzo did. But basically he was fully set on leaving and Mooney convinced him to stay.

If you were advising him, would you mention that Pearl is typically one step of the NCAA Posse, won't talk to the school's legal department and if he goes there and the other shoe drops, he's screwed?

"Secondly, the decision to self-impose this ban now disproportionately affects two players in particular: senior graduate transfers Damion Lee and Trey Lewis, who came to Louisville this fall from Drexel and Cleveland State respectively, hoping to play in the NCAA tournament once before their eligibility expired. The Cardinals are 19-5 on the season after Monday’s loss to Duke, and were a lock to be included in the NCAA tournament come March. According to Louisville coach Rick Pitino, when he told the team of the school’s decision, both Lee and Lewis were moved to tears. Lewis and Lee were nowhere near Louisville’s campus when these allegations were supposed to have occurred, and the university’s decision to ban them and this year’s team from the tournament is both capricious and unfair.

No. I wouldn't talk ill of another program or coach. I'll talk of our advantages and the family bond the team has. That there will be no better place satisfaction-wise for him to win at. No guys you'd rather win with.

I'd acknowledge it's a risk to stay. we only won 12 games. Many people think we won't dance because it's too far to go from 12 wins. But if we do and you're part of it, you're part of a historic turnaround. Do you believe we can? I do. If you do too, you should be a part of it. If you don't believe we can, then I understand why you'd leave. Don't stay with any possible regrets. If you stay, just do everything possible to reach your goals and live with your decision.

Maybe Khwan should call Adoda and ask what playing two minutes a game on a team you don’t care about feels like.
I think you are correct here, it almost has to be a "play in the NCAA" desire. He must choose carefully, because if his new team has two well rounded guards, he will find himself playing 4-8 situational minutes a game from the bench.

Khwan's a very good player. you don't think much of our team if a guy getting 32 mpg here can't get time at many another programs as a grad transfer.

I like Khwan and hope he stays and plays 30+ m/g for us next year. But is a solid NCAA team going to hand over the starting PG position to him? No -- so now we are talking about a 6' shooting guard that isn't a great shooter. How many at large teams this year started someone like that at SG? I honestly don't know, but I suspect is is a very small number. I think we are about as good a fit for him as anybody.

I don't know starting line-ups, but there are teams with attrition or coaching changes that have a lot of holes like Pitt, Memphis, UConn ... not necessarily March Madness teams but teams in bigger conferences. he might find a PG role.

Said this above, but I see Khwan as a 6th man off the bench at a good BCS program. He probably would get 15-20 mpg in such a role. Khwan can play the point and 2 guard, so I think that would be attractive to a number of teams.

we'd be best with him in this role too, going bigger at the 4 next year. more like 25 mpg for him as 6th man here.

not sure that's a good idea as a sales pitch, though!

Enough teams that are basically locks to make the NCAAs next year will want Khwan in some capacity that he will find a good fit.

He might as well stay here if he is going to one of those rebuilds. Think Khwan will find a team ready to win and go to the NCAA next year. I don't know why he is leaving but I would think winning and going to the NCAA would be on that list.

Could it be that he wants to get closer to home?

Question, I really don't know the answer to, would a P5 powerhouse team want a 6 foot shooting guard, with a mediocre shot? Point guard I could see.

One of the greatest sports quotes of all-time is from the famous Yankee catcher Yogi Berra "it ain't over till it's over" I hope it is the case here. We can all speculate if it is true and why? The bottom line is everyone on this board wants him to stay.

Whatever decision he makes, I hope he is happy with it in the long run. Another famous quote is "the grass is not always greener" He should take his time and make sure he makes the right decision.

With that said, It would be wonderful to see him lead our team to an A10 Championship and NCAA tournament his final year after all the hard work he has invested in the team.

Could it be he doesn't have a lot of faith in the program? If he leaves, along with the Adoda departure and all the recruiting misses, the problem seems to be systemic! The Bryce Golden decision will speak volumes as to the health of the program

Is there a reason people spell Ododa's name wrong all the time? Is it some sort of passive aggressive slight since he transferred?

I also don't understand the need of some posters to question the value Khwan would bring to a P5 team. He is a very good player that will bring a lot of value to a good team next year. I will be rooting for him.
