Just curious

So basically we have two groups here with incongruent ideas about the program.

1.) One group is seemingly OK with the status quo, and has adopted a "business as usual" stance relative to the state of our MBB program.

2.) The other group is fed up and frustrated with the current state of MBB. With most of us lacking the financial resources to buy Mooney out of his contract ourselves, we vent our frustration in the only forum available to us, which is this board. We want the program to be successful, but feel powerless to have any impact on changing the status quo. So we can either suck it up and deal with it, or we can continue to voice our frustrations here and perhaps "vote with our wallets" and stop going to the games.

Personally, I will not renew my season tickets next year. I will likely not go to the games if for no other reason than I have better things to do with my time than go watch our team play the same way we played at the beginning and end of this past season. It makes me frustrated, and it's not entertaining. This is exactly what I did during the Dooley era. Perhaps if enough of us do what I did during the Dooley Days, a change will take place like it did back then. When Dooley left, I began to support the program again. It really was the only recourse I felt I had as a disappointed and disgusted Spiders MBB fan.

As another poster stated, this is the mess that the University of Richmond has made, the University of Richmond is the only entity that can and should clean up the mess.

I fall into group 2 and you summed up my feelings perfectly. I'm a season ahead of most as I didn't attend another game after the Delaware game. It was that obvious to me. I continue to support all other Spider programs. Frustration is lessening by the day to the point that I find the basketball program and all that's happening around it laughable.

Broc, don’t attend! Outstanding! Thank God and Greyhound you’re gone!
So now we're at the point that we should only attend games if we believe there's a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, that unicorns fly in the RC, and Mooney's taking us to the promised land?

Apparently so. Again, those of us not listed in the Forbes 400 have limited alternatives when it comes to changing the status quo. My chief reaction to the current state is to not renew my season tickets, and clearly state to the AD my reasons for doing so. The other thing I will do is continue to express my dissatisfaction here, both in the hopes that someone at the RC might finally realize there is a problem in the fanbase, and to allow me and other non-Mooney Truthers to vent our frustrations. Those of you who have self-banned I respect your decision and reasoning, but I did the same thing when men's soccer and track were squashed under the jackboot heel of Queally and Miller tyranny, and we all see where that got us long term.

Right now if you are a MBB fan, it's a sucky time to be a Spider.

well, it did get us a decent lacrosse program. I’m personally more interested in following lax than I ever was in following men’s soccer or track, and that’s coming from a guy who loves soccer.

That's not really the point...the point was that self-banning as a form of protest doesn't really move the needle of change. LAX was a done deal before soccer and track got axed, and people who self-banned from the board as a method of protest (or perhaps even sanity preservation) didn't really help their cause. Self-banning certainly wasn't the reason we got the LAX program we have today.

I think the self banning is more for mental health (escape the negativity) than a form of protest.

I don't think anyone on here has said they are OK with status quo. Not anyone. Everyone on here wants us to win more games. A few have chosen not to demand Mooney be fired in every single thread. That doesn't equate to "seemingly OK with status quo".

And, the same 5 or 6 people voicing displeasure on a message board did not aide in eliminating soccer and track and will have no impact at all on our basketball program. Nor will 5 or 6 people on here deciding to not renew season tickets.

no problem with lax -- but is college ahletics about who follows or the student athlete

I’m confident that neither self-banning nor constant moaning move the needle. If either did there would have been a change by now.

understand the frustration but also recall going to every single game when i returned to richmond and bought season tix for lousy teams but they were my team and i was there to support them even though it was tough. this goes for football as well, some very tough, losing and losing big, seasons but was always there and so were a lot of other guys, their wives and kids. hope some of you will think it over and show up, see your buds in the next seats and know that you want to be there even if they are not meeting your expectations. when i got here went to a lot of astros games, love baseball and they lost over 100 games four years in a row but enjoyed every game and last season it paid off, it was very special after suffering through that bad patch. realize that many feel that things should be moving in a different direction due to the lack of success they want but you still need to go out and support your team(s) because you love them and they are your team, win or lose.

Come on, do you really think it's only 5 or 6 people on a message board who are upset with this program??

Broc, my wishes are the same as yours. But I feel it is not my decision who coaches our basketball team. I will support all of our teams regardless.

You don’t seem to understand that you can support the Spiders but be opposed to the leadership of the program and the direction the leadership is taking the program in. Blind allegiance to a failing coach is not doing our program any good. If you truly want the basketball program to improve, you have to hold those in charge to a higher standard.

I wonder which of the 5-6 of us that are dissatisfied marched into Hardt's office earlier this week and demanded some answers. Wasn't me, although whomever that was, I'd like to buy them a beer. VT4700, you probably know who it was.

If they want answers about Buck, he is probably not legally allowed to give them. If they want answers about the program, if I were him, I would tell them to talk to me next year if we have another bad year because 2 of the previous 3 years before this past one we were 12-6 and 13-5 in the A-10. Then, I would thank them for their continued support and tell them to have a nice day. Oh, and I would also offer them a beer if I were allowed to do so.

"the previous 3 years before this past one we were 12-6 and 13-5 in the A-10"

So this past year was an aberration & we should expect to return to the norm this coming season? What is your projection for wins & losses in A-10 this coming year & and overall?

Normally, you look at the team's overall record, not just their conference record. OOC games count the same as conference games.

why do you feel the need to pin another poster down -- just respectfully disagree and go on

Poster is so positive, just want to hear what good and great things equates too W-L wise. Is there a poor record for you to say no more CM past next year? Or no accountability W-L wise?

urfan, no problem, I will move along. Losing KF and Buck for me added to the depressing season that just occurred. Still stings and what's left of positive feeling for next season is all but gone. Looked like everyone was back and now only 3. Come back sometime before season. Have a great summer!

Still looking for someone to provide the “pros” in the pro/con list for the coaching staff we have had for the last 13 years

They run a squeaky clean program and have been fairly entertaining offensively for awhile now after being super boring at first. So those are a couple of pros among a myriad of cons.
