JP Moorman - 2017 Offer

Tbone, was thinking similar on the on the court success factor. We don't know for sure but when I saw we were going up against Temple, I was thinking we were similar to Temple in this aspect. Then I looked it up and they have been to NCAA's in 7 of last 9 years, with an NIT final four in one of the other years. So that could be a selling point that went against us in this case.

we landed two early targets in this class that we obviously thought very highly of, and added a 3rd very good looking player recently. we'll add a big forward. we're recruiting really well.

there have been many over the years that we didn't land and cried about on here ... who never turned out to be difference makers in college anyway. and a lot of our best were guys who committed here after other targets committed elsewhere. Moorman looked great, but I'm really not worried about it. I'm loving the guys we've been getting. we just need a talented 6'7" guy to round out this current class.

Disappointing. All in on Walter Whyte at this point, even though he's not as big as I'd like. Seems like he's the best player we have a legit shot at.

really good looking player and if the staff goes that way I'll be excited ... but like you said he's a bit short for the roster need we currently have. same with Seegar. we have a ton of 6'3" - 6'5" guys. guess that can work, but it's tough defensively.

RA- 6'3"
KJ- 6'6"
JB- 6'2"
JH- 6'5"
DO - 6'11"
main reserve: PB- 6'3"

This is the lineup for this past season's national champions. I do think there is merit in the thought that we are looking to follow this type of model. It really makes sense when you factor in how hard it is to land legit guys 6'8" and above. That is where Richmond and the A10 really struggle vs. ACC, Big10/12, etc. Heck,Villanova's roster only had a couple guys with size.

That said, it does seem like we struggle to compete against big lineups and get killed on the glass in some games against big and physically talented teams (think URI past few years). Grant Golden was such a key recruit for us. De'Monte and Nick got a lot of hype, and deservedly so - but I think Grant may have been the most important. Hope we can land one big guy in this class, or at least a physically imposing 6'6 guy like Seegars.

Maybe we just land the best guys we can land and then consider the transfer route for big guys? At least we seem open to going that way more now, so it's an option, if not necessarily a great "strategy."

1) Jenkins was listed at 6'7". and even if 6'6", the 260 lbs more than makes up for the inch.
2) I think Seegars is 6'4" - 6'5", but yes he appears built more powerfully than our other 6'4" - 6'5" guys.

you can totally run a small team out there with a monster rim protector like Ochefu backing you up. while I like both and they are skilled, I don't think Grant or Paul are that kind of player.

Grant can/willprotect the rim, very athletic. Moreover, should remember that Solly will be suiting up next year. OSC

Grant's pretty athletic, but I don't see him as a rim protector at all. not from any of the highlights I've seen.
Solly should be the primary 4 the next two years. so you're right ... the guy backing him up there could be smaller.

Yes, that would be a really, really strong selling point. We do not compare favorably with Temple and a lot of other "comparable" programs right now given our lack of post-season success. Unfortunately, it's a little bit of chicken and egg...

We lost a guy to Highpoint. That weekend the staff brought a guy in from Kansas and earned his verbal.

This week, we lose a guy to Temple and the staff is already bringing in another player for a visit this weekend. Will we have the same result?

Well, I posted something about feeling good about Moorman on the premium board and missed. Posted this here and called it...
