I agree, I think it's pretty amazing that we can compete at such a high level. Our academic restrictions are an advantage but also hurt us some. I also think Rocco saved us from what could've been a very bad period for us. Hopefully Huesman can take us to new heights but I am doubtful until I actually see it. Not a knock on Huesman but he's no Rocco.
He will be better than Rocco.

But can we actually do something more than Rocco? I love yalls positivity about this situation but at some point we have to be realistic. We don't have the facilities as has been well voiced by many of us and before we could compete without them but soon we won't be able to keep up unless we get on par with facilities. Rocco will do outstanding at UD because he doesn't have the restrictions that he had at UR and Liberty. Letting him go will prove to be the biggest mistake our program has made and until Huesman outdoes Rocco it won't be an improvement.
What restrictions did he have at Liberty? My cat could go there if she were a Christian.

Young'n, you'd do well to brush up on 2008.
You're right and I know good and well what happened in 08. I said before this season that we would win another title in the next five years and after losing Rocco I have changed my opinion.

VT, Delaware grew from a Division II school to FCS, Richmond has been Division I from its inception. They will never pass us. Should they go on to FBS, well we've been there and done that too. Should they go on to FBS and finish better than 20th in the nation after winning a bowl game, then they will have out achieved us but they will never pass us. Huesman will win and beat Rocco until Rocco moves on. Book it.

No way to tell what will happen. Talent is there but how the kids response to huesman is yet to be seen also Danny built his talent around his schemes both offensively and defensively
There are numerous examples how 3-4 talent doesn't do well in the 4-3. Different skill sets
On offense is pocket passer may not do well in the spread. Same with the o line. So while I think the new guy is a good coach I'm beginning to get concerned that the transistion may not be as smooth as it is on paper
It's easier to change the coordinates (as DR proved on both sides of the ball) than to change the O and D schemes. I strongly felt that next years team would have been better than this years but that was with Danny now. Who knows but we will see

I agree with you 100%. I loved Huesman's defense when he was with us last, it was aggressive and got after the QB causing a lot of turnovers. However as you said we may not have the guys yet for that scheme. Same with the offense, I think Lauletta can play in the spread but I'm more concerned about the O-Lines adjustment especially since a lot of them will be new starters. It will not be a seamless transition because Huesman flat out is not as good of a coach as Rocco.

You've said a lot of things. Like "we're done" after we lost to JMU.
Do you believe we can still win one in the next 5 years? Also I'll bet you on what our record over UD will be in the next 5 years. I say 2 and 3, maybe even 1 and 4.

I bet you its neither of them since we'll play them 3 times at most over that stretch.

Going back to the restrictions that Rocco faced at Liberty, I find that a bit humorous as Rocco offered my Jewish son a scholarship to matriculate at Mr. Falwell's university.
They have a different standard for cats. More restrictive.

Mo, VT must be a really pretty lady. Guess that explains all the emotion. Oops, I probably shouldn't have said that.
I meant more along the lines of I am pretty fun to talk football and go to a bar with. I'll give you credit though, that was pretty funny.

Huh? Based on what?

Which coach has a ring?
Which coach stated "as far as he could take" his team was advancing in the playoffs to a point, then getting his doors blown off, being out-coached and looking unprepared in the process?

Just my opinion. I think Rocco is an outstanding coach based on what he's done at Liberty and UR, starting from nothing at Liberty and bringing back UR from the dead. I'll sit back and watch what Huesman does and give him a chance, maybe he will bring us to a new level. Hell maybe the same thing that is happening at jmu this year could happen to us next year, that would be pretty cool. If things work out next year we very well could be what jmu is right now.

Compare what Huesman did at UTC to what Rocco did at Liberty. Huesman got UTC further with less resources (at least based on what I've read).

No idea how that translates at UR but there's good reason to be optimistic.

One key is that Rocco did a good job getting a lot of walkons. Clawson was very successful with walkons as well so hopefully Huesman can follow that blueprint.

Recruits like a school that is going to support football. if they feel that they are going to be second fiddle, they are not going to come no matter how good a school is academically. When you see what W&M , JMU ,and Delaware have for football Richmond has to step up with supporting football.

Appreciate it! Just curious if you had a kid who was in the same position wouldn't you have to way your options for your kid.

I would hope that most of these kids and their families know that the chance of going to the NFL from a FCS school is less than one percent and an educational experience is worth a lifetime.

Truly, if another player parent or family member signs up for this board to tell everyone about how crummy the football experience is a Richmond, i am going to change my mind on the pledge I'm getting ready to make to the athletic campaign.

This crap is a seed that Rocco sowed, full-well knowing he wasn't going to be back here next year. We need to stock up on Round Up.

If I had a kid being recruited at the FCS level as a parent I would hope he would choose a program with a winning tradition where he would also receive a quality education that would benefit him upon graduation if not drafted. I would want him challenged on the field against the best possible competition and challenged in the classroom with plenty of academic support in place to guide him along the way. Don't know of many programs in the country at the FCS level that have won a National Championship and built a new stadium in the last eight years, finished in the top 8 eight the last two years and also offer an opportunity to obtain a prestigious academic diploma. That is a couple reasons why a kid should pick a school and not just a coaching staff.

I have had a kid with similar options. I encouraged him to make a decision that he would be happy with as opposed to weighing them for him.

First Richmond is committed to success in football and is supporting its team. Every team will have additional things they will want and have to do without, unless they are Alabama. We hired a great coach that has a strong belief in our University and its commitment. BTW he had heard the same rumors and after investigating to his satisfaction left a job at his alma mata to come back to Richmond. I would want my son to be where he was happy, and I would also hope he chose his school not just for the football program but for the full offering. Most important the education he would receive. The opportunities that would be available to him at the end of his education. The city and location of the school, the teammates, the opportunities to grow into the young man I would hope he could be. But I would also remember the final choice was his, not mine.

Mo I know you well enough to know that you recognize certain people became disillusioned and tried to burn the barn down. You also know that we do support our program and are working toward more improvements now. The arms race never ends, but we have been successful almost every year for many years, and when things aren't right we have worked to right the ship.
