Jamion Christian out at GW

Calipari has left a disaster everywhere he has been. Will Wade’s idol.
going by wikipedia so forgive me if there's better info ...

UMass - 2 sports agents gave Camby a big gold chain to get him to declare for the draft and leave UMass. how is that on Calipari? 5 straight NCAAs and a Final Four by the way.

Memphis - (I said Wagner but it was Rose). Rose takes the SAT. NCAA questions it for some reason. they contact the ETS who reaches out to Rose 3 times with letters to his old address. they never tried to reach him at Memphis. Rose claims he never got the letters. so because he didn't respond to the ETS, they invalidate the SAT scores. NCAA retroactively declares him ineligible even though the NCAA investigated and reported that they couldn't find significant evidence that he didn't take the test.
6 NCAAs including 2 elite 8s and a runner up.

Kentucky - 13 years. bunch of final fours including a natty and a runner up.

I don't see any disasters. and unlike Wade, no evidence he's dirty.

I followed the A10 pretty closely back in the Calipari days, as a fan of another program, and it was pretty obvious that he was doing something. I think he's cleaned it up since then, at least to some extent, but he was not clean then.

I thought Campby was basically his only big time player. don't know how he landed there. maybe that's where the questions come from. but recruiting him wasn't a reason for vacating wins. it was the gold chain.

The difference is that Wade got caught. Cal was always one step ahead.

Having been to the final four just 6 years ago - I assume he will command the higher end salary it sounded like UMASS would offer.

But Martin is a good example - he led South Carolina to Final Four in 2017. They did not return to NCAA since then and have been a middle of the pack and sometimes bottom of SEC team. They have finished 11th, 4th, 6th, 12th, and 5th in SEC since that NCAA run. And this year they finished 18-13 and fired Martin - so clearly they were thinking 5+ years with no bid, even with a final four in the back pocket was not good enough.

I am friends with Harper Williams, want me to ask if he was shady back in the day? lol,

With UMass hiring Martin and URI hiring Archie Miller can we dispense with the talk that had we moved on from Mooney that we wouldn't have been able to attract a really good and probably name candidate. The A-10 coaching ranks have gotten better with these 2 hires for sure.

The only thing that attracts most coaches is money. There are a few exceptions, like McKillop, but if we are willing to pay for them I would assume we could get pretty much any coach we wanted. Both those coaches you listed are getting paid more than Mooney, would we have put up that kind of money for a new coach?

Would we have been willing to open the checkbook as wide as URI and UMass likely did? (Note: Would, not could...we know we could.)

Archie's making $1.4M even without the Indiana buyout discount ($1.9M after that runs out), and UMass reportedly offered Schmidt $1.8M. Similar to Archie, Martin probably getting less initially thanks to $3M buyout from SC, but I'm sure his unadjusted salary will be up there.

How many Public (State ) schools are in the A-10? Those seem to be two of them...

Could we see the return of Angry Karl?

He's been at the top of coaching search lists for awhile now. It'll be interesting to see how he does up there. GW is a fun place when they have a good program, and the league is better for it.

Bruiser has been mentioned, as has Martelli, amazingly enough. Dunphy too.

Somebody's got the A-10 coaching alumni directory.

apparently former Richmond asst & current Campbell coach Kevin McGeehan has been mentioned as candidate too. Personally I think La Salle should go hard after Bashir Mason but I’m not sure they can land him. Tho I’d still put my $ on a former A10 coach getting it, which one anyone’s guess.

Maybe they were waiting until NCAAs were done so they can go after Hubert or Self.

Or maybe they’re going to draw straws and go with a player-manager next season.

Fran Dunphy(!) to LaSalle, his alma mater. Wow. He's 73. But at least he brings some credibility. Maybe he can get them headed in the right direction in 2 or 3 years and turn it over to someone else.
