Its Official : Rocco has gone to Delaware

alright baby, KG gets to do what athletic directors hang their hats on, hire a new coach. will be interesting to see if he seeks help from long time football people in the UR family or just does it on his own. am recommending 32 to be on the committee so we can bring him back.

Looks like. Was Rocco to aggressive and UR said nope not playing that game or is this the admin moving to downgrade football per the toxic masculinity that it represents? Maybe Cutcher had vision and football and Rocco were not in it? Can we blame this on Queally? Hope this can foster discussion to get a thread over 20 pages.

If DR doesn't want to be here then I am glad he is gone. Hopefully our administration will address the issues with the program, because they seem fixable. We will get a good coach here. Huesman would be an excellent pick.

Why would a good coach come here? If they see that we lost a coach to an in conference team they have to know that our administration is a joke and wouldn't support them either. Also do you even trust Gill to hire a good coach after how he just handled this mess? I don't trust him and don't know why anyone would.

This is a tough deal for you guys. Something was obviously missing for Rocco. Now you have a crunch time job finding a replacement. Tribe offered Lachlan Pitts yesterday, so the vultures are clearly circling.

Agree. Lot of KG bashing here, myself included, but there was probably more to this story than revealed to date. Rocco did a great job here but we've been great before and we will be great again. Crucial hire coming up. Ours is a very attractive position in fcs circles. Great university with great campus and academics. The new coach will have a lot of tools to use in selling to recruits. Also cupboard is by no means bare. We'll be just fine.

VT, my man, you need to relax. We will get a good coach. UR is a great school, a great place to work, and has a very talented team ready to win next year. DR wanted out and got his wish.

And maybe the upgrades Rocco wanted will be done and the new coach maybe will be offered more than Delaware is paying as a snub to Rocco.

We are a great school and have plenty of talent on the team but clearly there's a reason Rocco left and it can't be good if it was to an in conference opponent who hasn't won anything in the last few years. Our administration is a train wreck and gives me no reason to trust that they will make a good decision.

I'm confused. Are we supposed to be directing our anger towards Crutcher, Gill, or Rocco? Who is to blame? We must place blame!

To couch this as anything but a major setback is ludicrous. Our absolute best case is that we can somehow replicate success we have with Danny. Even if he left to go to major FBS school, that would be unlikely. Add the stigma that the situation creates and the more difficult recruiting job we will have getting a coach, and most notably, the difficult recruiting job the new coach will have given the stigma and how it can and will be used against us and the chances of us replicating where we are is VERY VERY hard and thus not all that likely. Add in the the guy who screwed it up will be doing the hiring and the odds get longer. Add in that he doesn't have the first clue about running football or football connections and I REALLY don't like our odds.

Ha. Blame must be assigned! /sarc We do not have insight into the behind the scenes. There could be a lot of drama or just a case of parties wanting to move on to new greener pastures (both ways). I am sure details will leak out over the next few weeks.

We won a National Championship with a first year coach after losing a great coach. And Rocco is no Clawson.

TwI read on twitter most of the staff is following him.

Of course they are. That was one of the main issues for Danny leaving - - - they wouldn't pay his guys. Why would they stay id UD is going to give them big pay bumps. The problem here is that the AD (and perhaps others in admin) REALLY are NOT COMMITTED to football. Danny speaks the truth when that's what he says. we'd love to keep winning at this level etc. but we are not committed to and will be perfectly fine moving down after a few years of not being able to compete etc.

We didn't lose a coach today - - - we lost FSC football for all intents and purposes. The decision wasn't about the coach - - it was about the future of football at UR - - just as Danny said. Danny refused to preside over the inevitable (and desired) slide. Next stop - - Patriot League - - Book it. Unless the backlash is so strong that that's worthless and people (donors) won't support that, that we just drop football.

Does Gill go as well? Seriously something is f'up when you lose a winning coach with a winning program to go to another team in the same conference who have not been very good for awhile. Absolutely blame needs to go on the admin. Some of the stuff I've been reading here about lack of good facilities and equipment is baffling, considering we are one of the best FCS programs in the country and have a gazillion dollars at the school compared to other programs. WTF?

"Leave it in better shape than when you found it."
Rocco has done that at two schools - perhaps he just wanted the challenge to do that at a third.

I wish him no ill will, I just want him to finish below us in the standings.

Well then at least tell me that Legg will be gone with him.

There definitely are folks at UR that do not support football. I feel that it is they do not like what it represents and find its fans deplorable. The next hire will show a lot. The fundraising team say not to worry, but no so sure. Given Crutchers strategic plan, I think football will be laid on the alter of equality and diversity groupthink.

Also, that now The theory that Gill wanted to move to Duke one day are finished.

I imagine when you're on a coaching staff, you pretty much have to follow the head coach when he moves, because your job at your existing school is not guaranteed once a new coach is hired. So unless the guys on staff are getting some type of pay raise or guarantee that they'll be here – which still might not be enough if they don't like the new coach or have different philosophies – they'll follow. That's not unusual.

I'm on the record as saying I don't want us to hire any specific coach primarily because we think he would keep most of our existing staff in place. If we have to start from scratch, so be it. We've had a decent amount of turnover recently anyway, and we have thrived. If we bring in Huesman or someone similar, we will be in good hands.

It will all depend on the new coach. I am hoping that Gill names the replacement at 1:30. Someone on the current staff would help stop the bleeding.
Gill had to know that at the very least there was a good chance that Rocco was gone. He should have been working on a replacement for the last two weeks. Miller would have had such foresight.

Miller wouldn't have lost Rocco to begin with.

Let's give him a chance to speak, at least. I don't recall Scott being introduced as head coach at the same time London announced he was going to UVA. It takes a few days.
