How we close out games....

The fact is . . . we don't close out games, cause that would mean you win. Not sure why CM and his staff even bother with timeouts when afterwards you still let GG shoot a 3 instead of getting into the paint, guards are jacking up NBA 3's, and everyone takes a turn at fouling rebounder after a missed shot. It's "rinse and repeat" play after play, game after game.

Look at JOC with the trolling. Professionally done of course. Or maybe JOC got the nudge nudge wink wink from Jabba. Actually I don't think he can nudge so the wink wink.

Perhaps CM "learned" end of game "strategy" from missing that class ? or more appropriately "end of game mismanagement 101" . It has really gotten to the point where it's very difficult to think in terms of winning but instead thinking of how are we going to blow this lead?

Damn, JOC is lit right now. That is awesome. JOC clearly knows the Hardt, Davis connection and waited until the right time to play that card, which is apparently right now. Go, JOC. Sometimes, I think he is way too much of a company man than a reporter but I think Mooney got under his skin with his antics early in the season.

Mooney should know by now, not to piss off the media, that is a battle you won't win.

Once again, Nathan Davis would be a huge mistake for us.

How about this tweet from JOC:

"In the Spiders' last three games, losses to Duquesne, at Davidson and at Saint Joseph's, they were outscored 108-42 from 3-point line. In those games from 3, UR (7-12, 1-5 A-10) shot 25.9 percent, and opponents shot 41.4 percent. St. Bonaventure (7-12, 3-3 A-10) at UR Saturday."

Tough to win at this game when you cannot shoot and cannot defend.

Well, Mooney made his bed when he blew off JOC's Q, then used a UR student to mock him in a following press conference..as retaliation for evening being asked such a Q. F Mooney

I agree VT, and the worst part is CM knew his defense had not been effective for years and did nothing about it in the off-season. He knew this team was young and yet still didn’t have them ready to play a simple 2-3 zone or even straight up man to man. Failure to change and adapt is one of CM’s biggest failures at UR.

I would take Davis in a heartbeat.

Has anyone dug into their numbers enough to know how experienced their team is this year? They made the NCAA last year and had a hard fought loss against Michigan State, i believe. I seem to recall they had a big time scorer last year, who was a senior.

Davis has them back at the top of the Patriot League pile again this year.

To be fair, I think at this point you would be satisfied with FRS as coach....

Davis isn't a bad coach I'm just saying that we could do better. I don't really think he is someone who would move the needle as far as recruiting and that is what we need right now.

As of Mon update, Lunardi has Bucknell in the field

Probably needs some more vetting, but he's won at every stop

Hubert, Nathan, Kermit, or Larry?

I'm not pitching Davis, but question comments like "we can do better" or "Davis would be a huge mistake.". Looking at his record, how much "better" are some expecting?

Agree. .740 winning percentage, twice ODAC Coach of the Year, twice Patriot League Coach of the Year, 8 NCAA appearances, one NIT...all in 9 years as a head coach. Not discounting other possibilities, but as Fan1 says, "I would not be upset."

Again not at all saying he is a bad coach. Right now with the situation we're in I don't think he's the right guy.

Who is your pick BSH?
Anyone from this list, no particular order:
•Patrick Beilein-Dad's connection to UR, Beilein name will help in recruiting, he seems to be on a similar rise to his dad
•Wes Miller-sounds like an up and coming head coach, UNC connection will help on recruiting.
•Big name like Gaudio or Greenberg- Gaudio obviously wants to coach again given the fact that he's at Louisville right now and he is a proven recruiter. I know people roll their eyes at the thought of Greenberg but he did a pretty good job at Tech before things got ugly at the end, he also said he'd come back for the right situation, that could be UR.
•Dambrot-Lebron connection will help in recruiting big time and he clearly knows what he's doing given what he has done at Duquesne of all places so far. Should at least be a guy we talk to.
•Hubert Davis-At first seemed a little far fetched but the more I think about it the more it makes sense. He knows how to recruit and this would be a win win for us and him.

Note that I keep bringing up recruiting, to me that is our biggest issue right now. We don't have the guys or as many good guys as we need to win at this level. Give me someone who will recruit extremely well and I'll be happy.

PBeilein is a reach until he coaches D1, Gaudio is old and seems unhireable, Seth couldn’t coach/schedule/recruit at an ACC program, and Dambrot isn’t going to transition in conference.

So Miller or Davis?

Jeff Boals at Stony Brook is an interesting name. Was an assistant under Matta for seven years. Pretty good recruiter. Doing a nice job at SB.

Here is what I hope. That we put a really good search committee together that looks at a wide array of candidates and then they select the best fit for us. I don't care if it takes a couple months to get it right, just get it right.

Whomever is coming in here is going to have a mess to clean up and they are going to need some time to do so.

Also a couple traits, I would like to see in our new coach.

1. Good recruiter (obviously)
2. Able to engage the student body, fan base, media effectively
3. Able to bring passion and a sense of urgency with our program

Mooney has the personality of beige wallpaper. I really would like to see a coach who is engaging, energetic, and really able to sell our program to both recruits and a wider audience.
