hmm. we just offered a JuCo

6'5, 200lbs, likes to dunk, seems to have a good handle. Hoping we get some more size (height and weight), but maybe his athleticism or arm length will work at the 4? I would think he is more of a 3, but we have a ton of good 3s right now.

he's a 2/3. more 2 than 3. definitely not a 4. depth and athleticism? defense? hopefully not a replacement.

Was at ULL before JUCO? Played as a Freshman 2016-2017

Guess he didn't get the memo that our coaches frown on dunks and prefer layup bunnies that rim out. Maybe he can change their thinking? Sure hope so, since we probably missed enough layups this season to win 7-10 more games.

Have we ever brought in a juco? I don’t believe so, at least not since I’ve been following UR.

Well I'm hoping we can beat out UC Riverside. And since I'm from California I can tell you there is 0 draw to Riverside. My mom grew up there. Nowhere near what Richmond has to offer basketball or city wise

Unfortunately this reeks of desperation, and as spiderman indicated could mean that the staff fears a transfer. Unfortunately this is one of the worst holding patterns I have seen in my years following Richmond basketball. Wish we could fast forward the program 365 days and see where we are.

Interesting that many posters in here don't want us to bring in a mediocre grad transfer who won't play. Now we are instead in on a Juco player who actually has put up solid numbers and looks like he could be a contributor and the narrative changes again for it to be a bad thing.

Mooney too good to look at a JUCO in the past, now after 13 years changing his tune. Tarrant would have scoured the earth to ensure he had enough players. Mooney will only do so when his seat is hot. Though 32 jump right in and tell us how cool it is so we are all fully aware that we have years more of mediocrity.

Maybe in another 13 he will think about changing defenses :) :) :) :)

The video is pretty convincing in terms of athletic ability.

Just hope this would not be a questionable fit academically, but the coaches and admissions office can figure that part out. I definitely like this recruit a whole lot more than JMA and Kwesi. Also like that we are looking at a different (and possibly creative) approach. Looks like this guy may be worth checking out for an on-campus visit, if he is interested enough to travel to Richmond. You can tell a lot more from an in-person visit than by watching selected video or talking by phone. Let's see if we can learn more from a campus visit.

I think it’s reasonable to believe CM never looked at jucos because he was probably told they wouldn’t get in. I’m encouraged that he may be getting some admissions level support, whether from Hardt or just in general.

This guy ends up a Spider for sure...his team already wears road uniforms with the same exact font as our roadies. Done deal! And he's a definite replacement.

Yes they were Juco transfers, I was a student in 1975 with all of them....John Brown, Tony Marshall, Craig Sullivan and Jeff Butler....

First, 23, you’re better than quoting your own post...

But also, I’m going to look at this news as a good sign and maybe a sign of evolution from Mooney in his recruiting style/efforts. Only time will tell, and I’m not holding my breath, but gonna stay positive.

Yes, after 10 years he took a transfer at all, so the painstakingly slow evolution may be occurring. I am not an advocate of loading up on transfers, but I think you do have to be active in that market constantly, if you are not you are missing out on an enormous pool of talent. And you need to use it to supplement recruiting misses, injuries, transfers, etc. This one feels reactionary to me. Time will tell.

Just spent 10 minutes watching highlight videos (obviously a very intense scouting session/a very slow morning). Athletic scorer, and can shoot. Would want to know about his defensive intensity, and his long/slow release in his shooting motion makes me a little concerned against better defenders, but overall I like what I saw from limited footage.

Another Rorschach test. Some see this as Mooney finally becoming flexible in recruiting, but it is too little too late. Others see this as Hardt helping with admissions, giving Mooney more leeway in recruiting and expanding the potential player pool. Interesting.
