Go Ohio State CRUSH VCU

Glad to know the bat signal is functioning on Broad Street again.

Thanks mite. So it's like 8 or 10 grand a year for 5 years. SpiderK won't even need to use up all his pot for his brownies to offset.

I really don't like Ohio State and Matta. I root for the A10 always out of conference and NCAA tourney. So will include VCU. Granted I don't live in Richmond and don't have to hear the water cooler talk.

I will give VCU fans kudos for the props they gave Anthony on one of their threads. Thought that was class.

MO, I saw you at game. I was a section over. I meant to say hello but the game was starting & then I had a one track mind. VCU had a good crowd, not unexpected, we didn't & wish it was lot better but that's somewhat of a burden our program has. Hopefully next year it is substantially improved. We probably had best fan sign though...I did laugh at the directv/cable rob lowe posters someone had. There were local NYCers there, I'm not one but I also had luxury of working it around a business trip. What people do with their time & money is their business but fans can make a difference. I think it got VCU an extra call or two. But we can evaluate our program ourselves w/o MrVCU et al backhandedness. Nobody comes close to our "own" FRS though. The guy who wants UR teams to quit the season the minute there is any adversity. Anyway we played well enough to win but VCU was on fire from 3. That 5 pt swing near end of half (UR missed shot with numbers, foul against Larrier on 3 making all 3) was big. Also that Lewis 3 from top of key when we were up 6. of course ft's. I hope we make run in NIT and springboard that into 2015-16. Next year is very promising but our focus is NIT right now.

too many friends that are vcu'ers, have to pull for the conference

Not having a single friend who attended vcu as an undergrad (I do know a vcu alumnus who works as a clerk at the CVS nearby), the Ulla cannot support their team of thugs and hope they lose every game from now through eternity. Moreover, I can honestly say that while I avidly support our Spiders with my time and money, I have zero interest in any other Atlantic 10 school. In fact, I have found that, save for alumni of the various Atlantic 10 institutions, there is very little interest in our current conference. Hope we are asked to join the Big East at some point. So Ohio State, beat the heck out of vcu!

There is only one situation that would ever make me pull for Thad and this is it. My favorite team is the Spiders. My second favorite team is whoever is playing RPI. I hope Ohio State wins in blowout fashion.

have plenty of friends who attended rpi, screw them. some of you guys are like al qaeda rooting for army vs colgate or ireland pulling for england vs germany or dukies backing unc, just does not happen, need some fluids changed out.......

I hate VDU as much as the next one but can we not refer to their players as thugs, at least until a few more get arrested for something worse then stealing an iPhone? My beef is with the bandwagoners and trolls, many of whom didnt even know VCU basketball existed before 2011. I also don't like how they are gobbling up all the properties in the city and destroying beautiful old buildings and replacing them with crap robbing the city of its historical integrity. GO BUCKEYES!!!!

I'm going to root for the conference if nothing else than for the benjamin$ into the Spider coffers. An extra win or two may mean another charter flight or two to see some future recruits.

This should be an interesting game. I tend to think VCU struggles when the opposing team has good guards that can handle and OSU has a good one in Russell, but he is only a frosh.

And with VCU on a roll now since the A10 tourney - does that continue into the NCAA tourney. Should be a good matchup that I think VCU will pull out late with some key buckets down the stretch. But unfortunatley - I don't see VCU getting by Arizona in the next round.

I have a nephew that's a professor at RPI. He gave me a sweatshirt from that institution for Christmas several years back. I removed it from the box and promptly took it out to the front sidewalk and burned it. Screw RPI, their fans, administration and that pompous poster that insists on coming to this board to stir the pot. What goes around comes around. I'm 64, I plan on being here to watch it. Go Buckeyes.

How about this - VCU loses on a boneheaded play to Ohio State, Shaka gets tossed out of the game, the thousands and thousands of RPI fans that went to New York all hitchhike to Oregon but can't all get tickets to the game because we know the number of RPI fans is unlimited, and Dayton and Davidson meet for the national championship and the A-10 gets all kinds of money and good press.

Just a question, don't kill me. Let's say VCU hits the final four again ( I realize they really don't have a chance). Doesn't that help Richmond in some respect? If you have a team in the conference that makes the final 4 or goes far, isn't that good for everyone in the league? Come play at Richmond, you've seen teams from the a-10 can go far in the tournament and you are the missing piece to our puzzle. I don't know. Just playing devil's advocate as it would seem more quality players would come to the division.

Spinner is exactly right. It would help everyone else in the league, but it would be a horrific occurrence for us.

my answer ... how much did it help us last time?
VCU winning does NOTHING to help us. stop with the "it's good for the conference" crap. you think we add an extra dollar to the budget because any A10 team goes an extra round? we don't. our budget is set and it's generous. we're not seeing any extra recruits thanks to VCU or Davidson or Dayton.

Best help for us and conference is for both Dayton and Davidson to make the Final Four and for RPI to go out in the first game. Under no illusion, the RTD will be fawning and oohing and awing over Shaka and the Rams no matter what they do. But yes we want the A-10 teams other than RPI to do very well. Dayton made the Elite Eight last year and that was great for the conference.

Whampas I love it would have done the same thing. Had a child go to ODU and I said I love you and am glad to pay for school, but if you want that to continue, don't you ever give me any Monarch stuff.

Don't continue to feed the beast (and trolls) by continually posting about them on here. That should be part of the All-in for 2015-16 plan/pledge/blood oath.

Isn't that a little harsh?

Realistically, we have to treat the Lambs differently than other A10 member schools.

Yes, we want A10 teams to do well in the NCAA's for league credibility and for the NCAA dollars that go to the A10.

But as long as there are other A10 schools in the Big Dance, we definitely don't want Broad Street U to advance. All that does is give their fans more reason to rub our faces in our absence from the NCAAs/NIT bid. We are competing existentially for the hearts and minds of the Richmond basketball public. As long as they outpace us for things like NCAA bids, NCAA runs, A10 championships, recruits, etc., we will be playing a distant second fiddle to them.

It was really nice to get the regular season sweep, though. And I promise to make a resolution for next season to not give the Lambs so much of my mindshare, I will only think about them when we are actually playing them (tall order for a former Spider athlete whose pathological hatred of all things RPI - except my dear wife, of course - runs very deep).

GO BUCKEYES!!!

IMHO, whampas acted in a reasoned and intelligent manner; would have done the same.

that is why I love this forum. great responses and make absolute sense. Thanks.

I just hope and pray the ashes of that act are not contaminating his property!

I like to banter of sports take and rivalry but posts like ^ just makes me think of what people really think of other people. Snobbish bitter remarks about a persons job or status just open my eyes to how so call business leaders executives and or well to do people think of their workforce or people outside the circle..I guess there are many Clipper like owners around here in private lurking..SMDH
No wonder we don't have the fan support to travel most feel buying a season seat or a donation is substantially enough. Or its beneath them to sit amongst the others rival fans and root for school. Be in the mist of a cheering battle. Straight pathetic. Then come here and make stupid comments about making NCAA when don't even go to the games..
I cheered for VCU and Richmond in San Antonio to advance and will cheer for any V irginia team that a goes far..I'll embrace my state of VA.

I don't think you guys should root for us. Just like I'm not going to root for you in the NIT. We might benefit financially (minimally), but I think the biggest deal is recruiting. We each want to be THE team in Richmond. Nobody wants to go to the second best basketball school in a city. Another deep run by VCU strengthens that argument. Same goes for UR. I say let the hate flow through us :)

I'm sorry we didn't catch up. I was in and out of there pretty quickly after it was over.

The "VCU Fan Rob Lowe" sign and outfit was absolutely hilarious. I wish i had thought of that first. Just beautifully done.

Agree on the NIT and next year. "It's Go Time".

Told that nephew that's what I would do and he called my bluff (which wasn't a bluff at all). He's usually at Spider football games on one of my season tickets that I hold for guests. And I don't let him in unless he wears Spider colors. He knows where I stand.

Go Rams, Crush the Buckeyes

What he said.
And I have many Ram friends.

I would have peed on it a little.
