Isn't that a little harsh?
I would have peed on it a little.
Now that's funny...

Actually K, I am a 72 year old man, happily married with three grandchildren. Your prolific posting suggests that you need to get a life.

Bb3831, I see it took you 3 times to spell "prolific" :) Good night buddy.

Thad Matta doesn't have a clue on how to beat VCU. I guess Beilein wouldn't talk to him. You know that rivalry thing. LOL.

Yeah, Thad Matta's such a class act. I can understand rooting hard for the Buckeyes and rooting against a Virginia and A-10 team.

Thad Matta is an outstanding coach: outstanding university, good kids, great coach. Go Buckeyes!

I didn't watch the game. I refuse to watch VCU on TV, and I was traveling and I saw the score on Sirius. I saw some highlights just now, and who thought those uniforms were a good idea? White with yellow numbers? I couldn't even see the numbers on TV. Just as well, since they're pretty much clones of each other, anyway.

PhiDelt, explain to me how VCU winning in the NCAA helps us to recruit against them for the same players? I just can't figure out how that works.

Speaking of players we recruited unsuccessfully...Troy Caupain of Cincinnati, who basically won his team that crazy game vs. Purdue tonight. We offered him a couple years ago. He's a sophomore from Cosby HS. Of course he had a bunch of offers, including UVA, Tech and others, but it would have been nice to have a backcourt of him and Shawndre for two more years...

recruiting against them--they cannot take but so many players, and if you cannot play for them you play against them. But in general the best athletes want to test themselves against the best

I'm can't decide if I'm most upset with the fact that we are no longer getting the 1/14th share of the NCAA loot or the increased "atta-boys" that the NCAA committees gives conferences that win in the NCAA which clearly carries over until next years selection process.

The question posed here a lot is if the University getting a return on their investment with Mooney's contract. If you compare the contract against Shaka, then no, we aren't getting a return on investment that we would like. But I think we have a realistic understanding of who we are in the grand scheme of things, and the goal is to get to the tournament and see what happens.

But who is Shaka compared to? Are their expectations to make sweet 16 or better every year after they've sniffed glory with the final 4? If so, they're failing. Two years in a row of being 1 and done to a lower seeded team. Is it OK just to make the dance with them or are they like a P5 school like Notre Dame who wants to win a championship every year? Hard to tell with those guys.

URMite, by your logic, we should always root against any A-10 team since their success lessens our chances of recruiting against them. We recruit a certain type of student-athlete. We are who we are and proudly so. Any enhancement of the Atlantic 10 in the NCAA tournament is good publicity for our league and therefore probably gets us into some homes that are looking for a high profile league; therefore, it is good for the league to do well in the tournament and since we are part of that league, it is good for us as well. I would only imagine that we rarely go up against VCU in head-to-head competition for certain recruits, and when we do, they have their pluses and we have ours. None of that is changed by their winning a game in the NCAA tournament in my opinion.

Seems to me that since the Final Four run (Charles Barkley still says that was a "fluke"), Mr. Smart has done little in the NCAA tournament. This one trick scheme "Havoc" will need to change if Mr. Smart is to do better in the NCAA's. Even teams with only one good guard seem to handle this pretty well. When "Havoc" is removed from their warmups, what will replace it? Any suggestions?

^^ Other than them constantly holding themselves mightier than thee. You can't possibly be a Spider fan if you wish them well. No way no how.

But Shaka gets them there on a regular basis, and that in itself says something. I'd be happy with that as a start.

"Obnoxious" would work well because "Humble" is very unlikely........................................

Most schools are content with their school name or mascot name......... But when you are so "special" guess that just won't do.......................................

thank you, whampas. I'll root for other A10 teams, no problem. I just won't root for our in-city rival for some marginal, imaginary benefit. they're our rival. what am I missing here? as a fan in college sports, you just don't root for your rival or you don't understand what a rivalry is. you think Auburn roots for Alabalma? or Duke for UNC. or Army for Navy?

I hate vcu. not the players themselves. not the coach. not the fans individually. they might be great people outside the arena. but I hate vcu. I enjoy hating vcu. and I think part of what makes a rivalry fun is the hatred both ways.

so while originally I was hoping OSU would crush them, I'm happy it went to overtime. because maybe that was a more painful way to end vcu's season.

+1 S-man. We are all Spiders. They are our rival, it's OK to hate on them and lord knows they give us plenty of ammunition to not like them. Plus, they sure as heck aren't rooting for us. They sure as heck aren't rooting for us.

Well said s-man. That is what makes the rivalry great. I will never pull for them and I sure wouldn't expect any RPI fan to pull for the Spiders.

S-man and 97, please stop by my tailgate during football season and share a beverage. Well said my Spider brothers.

Will do, whampas. Although s-man and myself sit on opposite ends of the CM coaching greatness spectrum, so maybe not at the same time.

Just a joke, s-man. I respect your posts and opinions, you back them up with good solid observations and points.

we all want the same thing. hopefully next year is so good everyone buys in again.

Given the rain, does anyone know if they're still having the parade downtown today?

The media in this town have been bought and paid for by Trani and his successors for years. We might as well be in Richmond, CA for all the coverage we get here.
