George Mason 2/07

They are 11-9 with losses to LaSalle, GW, and ODU. They are also missing their best player.
Apparently they were also missing their best player against LaSalle & GW

But not against ODU & JMU…

I never think billboard material is a good idea,
For example, if you really want to piss your coach off in the NFL
just say something negative about your next opponent.

worst radio sound system I think I have ever tried to listen to. on the way home had the volume up almost as high as it would go and still missed 80% of postgame
I live 40 minutes away from the RC. To listen, increase the volume 75% however the last few miles another station bleeds in and blast wide open. Pitiful, I use get A.M. here in the boondocks, now cannot get that or F.M.

Of interest how the refs officiated...the most charges called on both teams all season. The refs have called the last three games totally differently. Not a lot of consistency with different crews. Game at Mason could be officiated with a different emphasis depending on which crew calls the game. Thought Tyler in particularly adjusted well to how the game was called and got to the free throw line. First game this season where we were 0-0 in first half on free throws.

Yes some aggravating moments, but getting the W is better than an L.
Also sad to see Nick continue to be almost invisible. Any idea what's going on there?

Didn't get to see much of this one but we were down with a couple minutes left when I left the event I was at to walk to my car. Fully expected a loss but was pleasantly surprised to turn on the radio and hear that we had won. We were long overdue for a game-winning shot like that!

And yet you commented that that they suck Missing their best player and taking the Spiders
to the wire! You really should hold off on comments like “Mason sucks.”
Ok. They are absolutely the best 11-10 team in the nation. I hope we can continue to compete with them tomorrow night.

The W is ALL that matters. Mason has good players and an excellent coach. I think we should have won this a little more easily with their best player out (anyone think we win this without Tyler or Gilly?).

But Gilly came up stones at the end with a huge shot. Credit to him for taking and making it. Big time play. Got to go right back and win again tomorrow at Mason. I don't like our odds if Oduro plays. We barely escaped with him sidelined.

I thought Mason looked really good defensively. we had a tough time getting good looks. Wednesday will be worse on the road and with Oduro back.

I agree Mason was very solid defensively but our 2nd half lull was largely self inflicted. Too many of those possessions we made a great drive to the hoop but kicked it out to a player in a less favorable position. There were opportunities for us to go up strong and get fouled or attempt a mid range/floater but instead we passed it around too much and had to take a bad shot at the end of the clock

Nick should ditch the special warm up routine .
Nick is more than a three point shooter. He can do well in the paint and when in position on defense. The hanging out open for a potential three pointer limits effectiveness.

Enjoyed seeing the game in person (one of the few this season) but too much of the same old thing. Our missed free throws, our wild three point shots by the wrong guy at the shot clock buzzer after having passed up several good looks earlier in the shot clock, and our lack of rebounding after a missed three.

Goose played well, I would have liked to have seen more of Crabtree, and the ending should have been on Sports Center. It's about time we got one of those to go in our favor. But we will need to play better on Wednesday if we want to, dare I say it, "compete".

All this is true prior to his second ACL tear. Now, he is just so limited by what his body can do. He is too slow now, has no vertical lift to get boards and his inside floater to go like he used to.

We will be ok tomorrow night if we play the entire game like the first 5 & half minutes of the second half...
(12-0)

Why did CM go away from the press that was so effective to begin the second half? I'd like to see us pressing a lot more. It usually works very well for us.

So many of our offensive problems seem to be death by 1,000 passes. At some point, someone needs to just shoot the ball! Sometimes it's like watching five guys with OCD or something who have been told they must each make 3 passes before anyone can shoot during the possession. We pass up so many open shots in pursuit of another open shot, and then often end up with a terrible shot, no chance at an offensive rebound and an empty possession.

You are correct that the second ACL tear was very tough on him. The one dimensional aspect of being a three point shooter is very limiting and obviously when he is not hitting. He has the bulk to take up space and snag an offensive rebound or two which is out of the question when his game is limited totally to hanging out waiting for the ball to jack up a three pointer. CM is determined to give him court time and some production is better than none. Last night he had 2 defensive rebounds, a steal, and zero points on 0-2 shooting in 14 minutes. Guess the formula remains about his potential to hit three pointers....and only CM can answer how patient he will be with that formula?

Nick has no lift in his legs, thus his jump shots are all arm and wrist. Due to his injuries he has lost lateral movement and quickness. He can box out but that is it. I am a huge Nick Sherrod fan but it is painful to watch his decline. Like a cowboy riding off in the sunset, I hope Nick has one or two more good games in him.

Totally. Nick's drive and determination to come back from the second ACL tear is most admirable. His example is good for the other players. Think everyone in the Robins Center pulling for the Spiders would be ecstatic if he could have an "on target" draining threes night!
