George Mason 2/07

Short shot after short shot. We are out of shape.

and we’re going to play three games this week….never mind the tournament

So a couple of comments on the end game. Kudos to Mooney for not having Golden on the floor for the key defensive possession. But that trip shows how awful we are defensively. They just ran a guy one on one against Burton and they get a layup with Burton unable to keep his man in front of him and no rotation behind. That he missed is incredibly fortunate for us.

Also agree with no TO after the miss as it’s almost almost always easier to get a good look from the flow of play than with the TO but so many coaches overcoach there.

And props to Jacob obviously. Needed a guy to make plays and he made plays!

glad we got the win but just can't wrap my head around needing all this struggling and theatrics to put down a terrible GMU team without their star in the lineup.
Glad we won. I just don't think CM is good at adjusting what he does to take advantage of our advantages. Take tonight as an example. Masons big man was out and just about all game long our center was along the 3 point line. I know CM likes the offense to run through GG, but damn, sometimes your center needs to be on the block.

They got exactly what they wanted on that isolation.

All part of Mooney’s finesse thing. We are soft and over pass. Too many open shots bypassed for yet another pass. Oh shucks - there’s that shot clock winding down again. Let’s shoot whatever we can get off cause we have to. Too many occasions of this in the second half.

Not a good follow up game to St B. 2 different versions of our team. Needed continuation of last Friday night but didn’t get it. A win is a win, but this isn’t a winning formula.

Very exciting game. Good to see us win when Tyler has an off night shooting. I thought our defense was very strong in the 2nd half.

In the first half, it really looked like they got into the passing lanes and pushed us out. George Mason reminded me of Saint Louis. When we opened the second half with a 10 point run, I thought we could really open a lead. Their coach called a time out and it seemed that they really went after us. I also thought they fouled the crap out of us and the refs swallowed their whistles.

Thought GM played a thoughtful weak poker hand game. With Oduro out, decided to focus on shutting off inside with double teams daring us to beat them from 3. Almost worked. They have a good young coach worthy of watching.
