Games we need to go a certain way...

Probably none of this will end up mattering...

But might be a good idea to have a thread for how we should root for games. Today--right now actually--it helps us for Wake Forest to beat VA Tech. Okay, I had no interest in that game before reading that, so some of these garbage games may actually hold my attention now.

This data can be found by plugging in Richmond to the Palm reader on cbssports.com.

Apparently, that is the only game (TODAY) that drastically impacts our rpi (currently 55). Go Deacs...

It will be hard for Wake to beat the third-best team in Virginia (and one that would be favored to beat us if we played right now, according to a certain RTD sportswriter) but I think the Deacs will be up to the test.

Interesting that Mr. Phillips in his latest summation of state teams suddenly had UR and VCU ranked tied at 2nd in the state. Tech had fallen to 6th, I believe, but he did say if Tech was playing in CUSA that they would have won the league outright, which of course was a shot at ODU. ODU would beat Tech like a rented mule.

I had mentioned in another thread early last week that it would be great for Wake to make a little run in the ACC tourney. Since their RPI is somewhere around 110 or so, if they could win a game or two, they could conceivably go below 100, which would certainly help us out in the bubble conversation.

A few of us have really been ripping Phillips on twitter. I'm glad the hard work is paying off.

The 14th seeded team (that's dead last, folks) in the ACC is the 3rd best team in the state, according to Phillips. Ahead of UR, W&M, half the Big South, ODU (who's a bubble team).... He wrote an article in the paper about W&M the other day (with dateline Baltimore). He probably can't find his way to UR's campus.

Dropped a spot 55 to 56.

George Mason needs to beat Fordham.
NC State needs to be Pitt (helps two ways).

Also, we need all bubbly teams to lose of course.

That includes:
Miami (to VA Tech)
Texas (to Texas Tech)

Have said all along only A10 title gets the Spiders in, but the SOS and RPI numbers looking so good has me hoping for at least a chance to hear UR's named called this Sunday but today's games are important like the link suggests.

So having a rooting interest for teams to lose ....... Mich 40 Illnois 23 Halfway there to a good start for the day.

Of course UR must take care of their own business and Davidson is playing so well right now! If all the link games fell the right way and we beat a very good Davidson and lost a close one to Dayton. Al Michaels one time!

Agreed. I'm not worried about the bubble because we are too far off. Yes, there is some outside chance if we get to both play and beat VCU and Davidson and then play and lose to Dayton in the final that we get could at large consideration.

I consider the chances of that happening fairly low and even if it does our odds for an at large even lower.

Got to win the A-10 tourney.

In our own tourney, UMASS currently down 4 at the U4 timeout. Theoretically for RPI purposes, we need UMASS to win since we beat them? Or La Salle since they beat us and VCU?

Then, of course, 2:30 p.m. is lamb vs ram, where either outcome will be in our favor for tomorrow.

We want La Salle to win since it will hopefully get them a top 100 RPI.

Was really hoping that Tech would beat Miami and bump them off the bubble, but Nooooooo...

LaSalle was rpi 101 going into today, would think a win against UMass would put them into the top 100. Next game against Davidson hopefully a L won't knock them back out.

According to RPI forecast they are top 100 now, and won't drop out with a loss to Davidson.

Good bubble-bursting day for us. Of Lundari's first four out, two lost today. Two of his next four out also lost or are losing. And one of his last four in also is losing.

ODU lost to Middle Tennessee State in the CUSA tourney, so that should do it for them. Texas A&M lost to Auburn in the SEC, so they may likewise be toast. The other two on that 'first-four-out' list are Tulsa, which plays tomorrow, and Miami, which plays Notre Dame at 9 tonight.

Among the 'next four out,' Illinois got obliterated by Michigan and is done. UCLA also is getting blasted by USC (down 20) and He's got Murray State and Iona on that list and ahead of us, but if we beat VCU and Davidson, there's no chance either of them gets in first.

On his 'last four in' list, Indiana is getting smoked by 14 by Northwestern at the half. It would be their second loss to NW this year and possibly the kiss of death. We also need Texas to lose to Iowa State (game just started) and Temple to lose tomorrow to Memphis. BYU lost in the WCC final to Gonzaga and is just waiting now, but probably in.

Hey Eight, you might want to check the prescription on those glasses....UCLA won big and Indiana is up....maybe the scoreboards you viewed were upside-down or something.

Anyway, Go Spiders.

Sorry, you are right. The ESPN pages I was looking at had the scores reversed. Oh well.

I'm just pumped that VCU lost to Fordham and the VCU band disbanded after the game.

Texas just hacked up a 10 point lead and lost at the buzzer. I don't care how good your league is, if you can't go .500 in conference, you shouldn't get a bid.

There are only three game we need to go our way:

Richmond vs VCU
Richmond vs Davidson
Richmond vs A10 runner-up

Yesterday was a good day.

Today we obviously need VCU to lose :).

If that happens these games have some significance:

RPI wise:
South Alabama needs to beat LA Monroe
Davidson beats LaSalle
GW beats URI
Bonnies beat Dayton

(Just repeating what Jerry Palm's program tells me... feels like there is at least one game that seems like it should go a different way to best help us in nonRPI ways).

Bubblewise:
Indiana needs to lose to Maryland
Purdue needs to lose to Penn State (would be kind of huge)
LSU needs to lose to Auburn (again one of the few games left, like Purdue's where the loss could be glaring)
UCLA needs to lose to Arizona
Boise State needs to lose to Wyoming
Colorado State needs to lose to San Diego State
Tulsa needs to lose to Houston (again potential for bad loss)
Temple needs to lose to Memphis
