Mr. Annap, I agree with a lot of what you say. I was never a Hilary fan. I detested her husband and I was glad when the Democrats nominated her only because I thought that we could easily defeat her (my choice for our nominee was Jeb Bush). And I agree without a doubt that we had should have forced European countries to pay their share of NATO. But I think that the way it was done, with bluster and threats, was unwise. We could have achieved the same in a more dignified and professional manner. If he had his way, Trump would end NATO, and NATO, I think all would agree, is vital to preserving out European allies and promoting democracy across Europe. What Trump did with his bluster was alienate the leaders of most of our closest historical allies. France, Germany, England (to a bit of a lesser degree), and others. Through his approach, he has also changed our position in the eyes of the world. Where we were once viewed as a beacon of strength and hope, we are now viewed as a wishy-washy country led by an impulsive out-of-control egomaniac. (Look at where we are today with the Kurds, based upon a phone call with a dictator and without consulting anyone at DOD or in Congress.) I do not feel that the trade-off was worth it.
BTW, I spent a few weeks four years ago in Annapolis (which I assume is your residence based on your moniker) on business (church-related). I thoroughly enjoyed the people and culture of your wonderful city during my stay. Got to tour the Naval Academy and the old state building and other sites. Loved Church Circle. I imagine that it is a great place to live. It is a wonderful historic community and embodies much of what most Americans embrace as truly American.
