Forecast for VCU

VCU is much better than what the NET ranking shows. They are a team that has gelled over their 9 game winning streak, which includes multiple 30 point win margin beat-downs. They are playing like a top 25 team and have the talent to advance a couple games in the NCAAs. This is going to be a very difficult game for us. I expect the spread will be 15 points and I think we will beat the spread.

I also expect to see a much higher number of VCU fans in the audience than recent years. Some of these fans are very obnoxious and unfortunately significantly hurt the perception of VCU by many Spider fans.

This negative perception of VCU is unfortunate, because VCU Basketball helps give credibility to the A10 and the broader organizations has helped transform the Richmond downtown area. We should all be rooting for VCU when they are not playing Richmond.

True or false, we don't need to say stuff like this. It only contributes to other fanbases hating us. And it deflects from the real issue that historically we've not beaten them enough.

Good point. I took it out, although I do think it is relevant for their Basketball players. They have a huge recruiting advantage over us. Which is a major factor in them dominating us over the past 40 years.

The original post was a great example of why the perceptions of Spiders fans are what they are.

This is the best forecast yet! My only change would be "I expect the spread will be 15 points and I think OUR GOOD KIDS will beat the spread." (psst, the spread will not be close to that)

VCU picked 7th in A10, exceeding expectations, and playing like a top 25 team and is now essentially NCAA lock. Exceeding expectations what's that? VCU is young and has everyone coming back too.

And then you tell me to root for VCU when not playing Richmond. Perhaps they'll make Richmond basketball more of an afterthought locally, draw even more attention and away from our Mooney problems and we'll just go on merrily bringing in the elementary school kids to watch our Howdy Doody games every year.

Please send this to Hardt. If reading that doesn't force pretentious Jabba to get off his butt I don't think anything will.

Killer, unfortunately when Jabba handed us the Leunarti hiring (like a Glory Days meal voucher to a truther) our lot was cast. This was a prop, to say: Look, we are giving Mooney another tool for next year. It would be unfair to can him after 8 years, because how was he supposed to know that scheduling the Longwoods of the world is bad for SOS????

We are done. Sit back and enjoy the train wreck for another 3 years, and then watch Jim Miller's search committee go to work!

Due to CM's lack of consistently developing a bench, our starters have reached the tired leg stage of the
season, and VCU will exploit it to perfection on Saturday. I see a 15 + loss.

The really sad part is the VCU fans I've talked to had no problem getting tickets (not surprising considering our season). This could end up as a virtual Home game for VCU.

Agreed. When I heard two old men giggling in a tickle fight on the radio I knew for sure right then.

Hmmm.....double agent?

This one is hard to call. I really really thought all the emotion of the protect mooney movement was going to propel us to a rout of GMU. Instead we left something at the restaurant I fear. I think a message from Kevin McGeehan could propel the guys vs VCU. Maybe a visit from Carlin Hartman.

I do think the world is against us in this one, and the world is black and yellow. I think the guys think deeply about how there play is hurting Mooney's standing (because it is never his fault) and rally this time. I really do.

Spiders 77
VCU 75

No. 23 for VCU misses a game winning three at the buzzer.

If somehow he makes the shot, I think he stomps on the Spider at mid court.

This game will be "Siegel West". Just like when we play The Dillweeds at RS, it is "Bridgeforth East"!

I don’t think it’s been easy at all for VCU fans to get tickets from what I’ve heard. I know a few that bought season tickets for themselves and then have the ability to buy more and sell them to other VCU fans. The residual markets like StubHub have had very few. I do have season tickets and even joined the Spider Club at the level required to get a parking pass. Many of you have talked about recent emails with a plea to buy the remaining tickets. I didn’t get any of those, I think my account was “flagged”. The athletic department there has played this one very tough as far as tickets go for the last few years. I don’t think you’ll see near the % of VCU fans there that you think, hope I’m wrong! Still no public sale of tickets......

I think the spread will be WAY less than 15 and I can’t remember a game out there that was not decided by only a few points that we won. Always a tough one......

Uh, dude.. We're in disarray both on the court and most certainly off the court. You don't need to patronize us, we know who we are. We're trying to make things better by screaming to anyone that will listen that they need to dump Mooney. Have your fun now. Just don't trash the building too much, ok?

You wont see that many spider fans either.

This is a tough one for me. 1st, out of respect for the folks who sit around me, no way I will sell my seats to an obnoxious VCU slob. So the choice is to go or to leave my tickets unused and seats open. I think empty seats at this game may be the best way to show disapproval with the status quo. That said, I don’t like the idea of Mooney driving me away from Spider Basketball, but he is really good at it. Its sad, but I am not not sure if I will attend Saturday or not.

Vcu fans buy season tickets and sell the othe games..

Made the decision a few weeks ago, I wasn't going to this game. I think VCU is going to beat us handily and I really don't want to see their fans and hear their chants etc... just rubbing salt in our wounds. That just does not seem like a good time to me. It is shame because the VCU game is the game I looked forward to most on our schedule every single year.

Can I have your tickets? I promise I won't cheer or be obnoxious.

Not at all looking forward to this game. Expecting it to be non-competitive and an annoying fan experience. But I will be there cheering the guys on.

I actually feel bad for the ticket office that they are forced to look boobish with the "Last Chance" pitch emails. Commendable that they're trying but it should be a wake-up call to JH that we are doing the magic sales cutoff 24 hours before gametime to get butts in seats for rivalry day. Not a great sign.

Way ahead of you, pal. :(

Asked my co-owner about his experience at the games this year. He hasn't gone to a single one! Ironically, this will be his first. If we (SpiderMBB) have lost him, things are even worse than I thought.

I will be there mostly because I have never missed one. Not looking forward to it but I'll be damned if I'll let the threat of drowning in black and yellow drive me out of our house.

Great article but 3 years too late. How does our staff miss on this kid who ends up down the road. WTH. Not to mention their HS teammates. A few years back I researched their teammates and now that I look back they all developed into good players. Outside of Julius and Sean their teammates play at:

Devonta Jordan - Buffalo PG
Darius Allen - Baylor
Elijah Weaver - USC

Maybe we don’t land all those players and academics could have kept some away, but could we at least get their coach on staff? I looked that guy up and he is on the staff at Tennesssee. Apparently KF isn’t good enough for them but they surely knew who to hire.

Nice article about a near life long friendship between two players from each team

VCU has passion for success and winning. Something a real sports fan has to appreciate. This “rivalry” UR believes exists between the two is a fallacy and the longer moondog is the coach and we have impotent boosters and admins, the more of a fallacy it is.

I have a doozy of story about a Richmond area recruit and how Mooney screwed the pooch with him and his family. This is par for the course.
