Forecast for Oral Roberts

I thought we moved the ball fine. that zone looked reasonably quick and lond, but we had plenty of open shots.
my kid's high school team shoots better.
Been an issue for 7 years now. Mooney plays a system that requires you to hit down open shots and the players can't hit open shots. This is not new. Mooney's only stated solution is we need to start hitting more shots. Well, no crap, captain obvious. Problem is your players aren't very good at that. #Recruit better.

I didn’t see the game, but the stat line was really frustrating. We’ve seen Gilyard and Woj knock down 3’s, both contested and uncontested. The two combining 3-20 is unexpected. Again, I didn’t watch it, but I’m assuming some (if not most) were good looks that we would expect them to make?

I get that shooters gotta shoot, but if it’s not dropping, maybe go to the rim?

End of the day, as you mentioned, Mooney’s teams have always been jump shooting teams. And we’ve always lived on whether we hit shots or not. When we hit 3’s, we usually win. When we don’t, we lose. It’s beyond frustrating that there’s no plan b...

I was there but three point shooting was bad but frankly another continuing problem caused our loss as well... not finishing at the basket. Cayo and Grant must have missed a dozen virtual layups.

Last time we played a good game against a straight up zone was in the NCAA in 2011 against Morehead State. Its staggering how lost we often look against a pretty standard defense.

we forced a few but we did have plenty of good looks from 3. shooters gotta shoot. my wife argues that if you're missing, stop shooting them. but to me a good shooter should never pass up an open shot. even if you've missed you're last 4, you believe and should that you're next one is falling. because you're a good shooter and that's what you do. shooters have to have short memories.

Jacob clearly stopped wanting to shoot late. he seemed to have tweaked his groin. I think Noah's a good shooter but some of his weren't even close. no explanation for 2-11 from Woj.

as I-M said, we missed some bunnies too. that happens. but too many this game. ORU was a mess and gave us every chance to win. but we got what we deserved.

When we move the ball around the perimeter, we do it in such predictable fashion, entirely clockwise or entirely counter-clockwise. Everyone knows who's getting the ball next. We need to mix in a ball fake or an entry pass to someone who can kick it back out and reverse the order somehow. Anything to throw the defense off a bit.

The way we pass is way too easy for a zone to defend because the entire zone can just shift to the left or right and always blanket us.
Predictable. Teams are using scouting film from us playing 10 years ago.;)

I'm telling you Oral Roberts is exactly what we can't compete against. Long and athletic, They played good D. They found and hit the threes when they needed to ( we didn't find and guard the shooters) If we had their schedule we'd be 2-9 also.

On offense We were letting the ball roll up court to save time because we needed all the clock we can get on the offensive end. Cayo and Grant missed a bunch virtual layups. If Sal got 2 minutes they started counting while he was sitting at the scorers table waiting to check in...it was a blink of time (that to me is so useless nobody can get into the flow of a game in that limited amount of time)

Mooney is fighting for wins to try an save his job but the team needs to be developing players with real playing time. That is why we need to start anew without Mooney now.
Since most teams recruit long athletic players, we're pretty much screwed. Maybe next year we can schedule the University of Oz and whip the Munchkins.

Honestly, I thought we moved the ball fine in the second half. We just missed. Same old problem though., lack of depth and coach not trusting some guys on the bench.
