Forecast for Oral Roberts

Matt Smith and Mooney having a conversation in the postgame about how Oral Roberts "bothered us with their length". I'll let broc run with that.

It's an attractive job, and a step up. He could win here, and even go to the dance without an AQ.
He will probably get nabbed by a P5 program, though.

Right now we're a step down IMO. Charleston the next couple years should be a more attractive spot than Richmond. Hurts to say that but it looks true

We need to continue to show up and scream for Mooney to get canned. If we stop showing up, all that will be left are Mooney truthers who think everything's fine.

On Wednesday, at exactly 8:25 pm, lets get a “Fire Mooney” chant going.
Unfortunately, we really have to do it. If there is anyone left who cares about Richmond basketball, let it be heard. We must show we expect better.

I've played with YMCA guys who can shoot better that what we saw tonight. The really sad part is our coaching staff did nothing to adjust to the zone in the first half. Really sad how far our program (basketball and football) has fallen and the athletic department sits by idly and lets it happen. I'm a loyal fan but even I have had enough!

Another loss to Liberty University @ Oklahoma. Needed to feed Cayo more and demand he do something with the ball. When he is aggressive we are a different team. GG needs to release the ball before he descends after jumping. Would of liked Sal to play more considering none of our shots were falling.

My wife & I were listening to the radio on our way to the restaurant after the game. It almost made me hurl, & I hadn't even had dinner yet. Classic Smith / Moon Man.

Fire both of them. It's an incestuous relationship. They're laws.

Grant and Nate 5-11 from free throw line. Several were front end of 1&1

You know, at least Longwood and Hampton played pretty good when they came here. These guys were TERRIBLE, they went a 20 minute span in which they scored 10 whole points. As bad as they were, they beat us on our court, and lead most of the game.

I just figured out why the students don't come; they're embarrassed...

How about let's demand that they make a freekin free throw once in a while WHEN WE REALLY NEED ONE. Neither one of those guys can make them when they count. Until they can step up when we need them to, I am not a fan of either one.

...and Bob Black called Noah the "player of the game" on the broadcast at one point. Seriously.
I was listening on and off, heard that remark and thought, oh wow, he must have double figures. Then Bob said he had 3 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists or something. But I guess that is what passes as great these days in Mooneyland.

Golden did hit one down the stretch to keep it close(There's your once in a while). That being said it hasn't typically been the case this year. Considering they are #1 and #2 in FTAs we need more from them in that regard. I know patience is thin these days, but Cayo is going to be a really good one for us, shooting isnt going to be his game. I want to see more aggression from him because he can score and draw a foul with his athletic ability. At times he is a little timid but when he wants to do something with the ball he can. Honestly I'm more worried about our inability to hit 3s and stagnant ball movement against a zone defense. I also notice JG limping at times and worry he has no spring in his 3pt shot(Looks fine otherwise). I didnt have to much complaints about the defense today other then in the final moments.

I genuinely feel bad for you guys. You deserve better than this guy who just gagged on a big one. Not feeling particularly elated myself this morning.

I'm telling you Oral Roberts is exactly what we can't compete against. Long and athletic, They played good D. They found and hit the threes when they needed to ( we didn't find and guard the shooters) If we had their schedule we'd be 2-9 also.

On offense We were letting the ball roll up court to save time because we needed all the clock we can get on the offensive end. Cayo and Grant missed a bunch virtual layups. If Sal got 2 minutes they started counting while he was sitting at the scorers table waiting to check in...it was a blink of time (that to me is so useless nobody can get into the flow of a game in that limited amount of time)

Mooney is fighting for wins to try an save his job but the team needs to be developing players with real playing time. That is why we need to start anew without Mooney now.

Didn't watch game, can anyone explain why Sal only got 2 minutes? I mean Noah went 1-7 from 3 in 24 minutes.
I am sure no one knows the answer to this question although my guess is Mooney was putting who he thought gave them the best chance to win in the game. I have been at all the games and will continue to be there because I like college basketball. It is very unfortunate that the Spiders have been underperforming, but as bleak as it looks I do think this team has potential. The problem is they don’t have a starter that can take over a game. Gilyard probably is the best chance of such a player but he is not hitting on all cylinders. My assumption is his groin issue is still bothersome. Grant is regressing this year and it may be because he is trying too hard instead of just playing. Last night, Cayo was the only person playing hard. He is just still growing into his role. JJ is a streaky shooter and he was off. Fortunately he stopped shooting. Yates was obviously given the green light and was too anxious to shoot. Wojcik was in a similar situation. It was too bad that Andre was out with a foot injury because I would have liked to seen if he would have been able to drive into the zone. Long story short is it is going to be a long year and hopefully the players keep working hard and put some good games together.

Its frustrating how inconsistent this team can be and even when we haven't been making shots and the game plan clearly isn't working mooney still fails to change one thing to help the team.

Mooney's convinced his system will work. How many of you guys are convinced?

Perhaps I’m being too simplistic, but a basic tactic attacking a zone such as we saw last night is to move the ball quickly around the perimeter and find the player open due to ORU overloading away from the key. The ORU coach even said they were big but slow. Quick passing would have kept them off balance. All night we had at least one player wide open on the opposite side of the court from the overload. UR has struggled with zones before, but ORU did not have the athletes to compete head-on and we failed to adjust.

When we move the ball around the perimeter, we do it in such predictable fashion, entirely clockwise or entirely counter-clockwise. Everyone knows who's getting the ball next. We need to mix in a ball fake or an entry pass to someone who can kick it back out and reverse the order somehow. Anything to throw the defense off a bit.

The way we pass is way too easy for a zone to defend because the entire zone can just shift to the left or right and always blanket us.

I thought we moved the ball fine. that zone looked reasonably quick and lond, but we had plenty of open shots.
my kid's high school team shoots better.
