I thought the kids played hard tonight... Woj and Cayo in particular. Andre will benefit from these minutes too.
There are definitely a few helpful pieces in place for the next coach. Need a big guard and a widebody or two and we might have something next year.

IMPRESSIVE 2nd half by Wojcik. Team as a whole played well tonight. Like announcers stated, ran out of gas. I thought Sal could have received more time? Another performance like tonight and beating Wake wouldn't surprise me.
Yep. Get a coach who can coach defense and get the administration on board with some transfers and we have some good young pieces for the next guy.
This level of optimism is what keeps Mooney in his seat. The admin consistently appears to think he’s close. I sure do hope I’m wrong though

I am going to watch the young players and daydream about how the next coach will use them for the rest of the winter. Do not interrupt my dream.
This postgame show sounds like everyone is really relieved by the performance today. Lots of 'fluidity' and 'graceful' talk.
The guys played much better than against Hampton. The outside shooting % + NC driving kept us in. Grant scored as usual. Defense is just lacking, and with Mooney always will be. Georgetown is decent but not a dominating & aggressive team which is a good matchup for us. This game was a good effort for the younger guys. Woj is a pure shooter & will have some big nights. There was more chemistry tonight than in some of the prior games.
If you can't win a game where you shoot ~60% from 2 and ~45% from 3, you are going to have a tough time winning any games.
Mooney's teams have consistently had decent to good offenses over his tenure, but the defense has been so bad the past 3 seasons it just doesn't matter.

Thought the same thing. If you didn’t know the final score you would have thought we won when listening to the post game show. We need a new attitude where we expect to win, no matter who is playing for us or who we are playing. A culture where losing is not accepted.
Another pitiful lose but certainly not a surprise, Georgetown is not a good team but still won comfortably. It is sad that there's no one they can start ahead of Johnson, at this point I would rather see Oddo starting.

Georgetown may be NCAA at large bid contender. At least I thought so going into year with BE a little down and fact that Gtown lost or choked a lot of close games in BE last year and had most of team returning. I'm also kinda digging Ewing as coach I have no idea why. On other hand look at all their games, everything is very close. They are not putting any games away against lesser comp. So wtf do I know.
I am also amused by Ewing as a coach. I think how overweight he now is has something to do with it.
Absolutely not. Georgetown was not the least bit impressive to me. They will be lucky to win a couple in the BE. Btw, their fans sound like us: expecting to blow the lead, miss free throws, etc.
So, while I nought we played hard and pretty well tonight, it served to really reinforce wh we need CM to go.
Andre clearly should have been getting more minutes earlier and is only getting these cause we absolutely have to give them to him. That we ran people into the ground in some games rather than give him minutes is Silly.
We have some guys in Jake, Jacob, grant and Andre (and nick before) that show on offense what a good feel they have for the game. That feel helps make us pretty decent offensively despite lack of athleticism. I suspect they have an equal feel for defense except that aren’t just allowed to play and use it. You can almost literally see our guys thinking before doing anything defensively. By the time you do that it’s way too late. I bet we’d be better defensively if we just rolled the guys out and said play 2-3 zone or play straight man like in pick up without any practice because they could just play and react and not be so damn worried about all the co,plexities of our D and they might actually believe which they clearly don’t in this defense. It pisses me off every time I watch us play D. It’s painful. What we play accentuates our lack of athleticism when we need something that helps cover it up. UVA is and has been great defensively and a Top 10 team anD their athleticism generally isn’t comparable to Top 10 or Top of the ACC teams. That’s coaching. What we have and the refusal to change it or to find something that works etc. is demoralizing!

Good lord, and a culture of not being happy giving up 90 points. I went and saw Michigan play in person last week. Night and day with JB and Mooney. And no, not b/c of talent, and no not b/c JB is so much smarter. Yes, b/c JB would not put up with one crappy defensive effort on a possession, where Mooney just doesn't care. Andre had a real nice line today with 10 assists.
Thanks for 1st hand report. Tho lucky to win 2 in BE sounds like 05's "less than 0" Louisville NCAA chances prognosticating. They won 5 last year in stronger BE and were supposed to be better. They are getting the DUBS for now (cc: spider23). Also they are currently top 100 Kenpom. Banner. I'm no Gtown hoops guy - nothing against them either - but I have them in a season long pool so maybe I was looking for validation...and I didn't get it. Ha. I think they'll end up better than you think though. My comments have nothing to do with our game.
Loved when Ewing brought his own oversized chair to the RC last year. Like the king traveling with his throne.
I was at a Celtics game couple years back with my sons, and we were courtside to watch warm ups. My son says look Patrick Ewing - he was right in front of us (Charlotte asst at the time) rebounding for players and I didn't even recognize him
. Not sure how my son recognized him, probably from NBA2K or whatever. But he looks a little different than his playing days.Another funny story, we are at a game at Mohegan Sun (actually think it was for Richmond - UNC, and I see Bernard King standing there. I told my son to go get his autograph. He was standing doing nothing. He comes back: "He told me he was too busy, maybe later" We got a good laugh from that one, though I thought it was a bit of a dick move by King.
Rick, i have to disagree. I am not a Mooney apologist, but the team played hard. Georgetown has more talent than we do with two starters out and maybe even if they played. But the kids played hard and had chances to win. Georgetown IS a good team and we made them play. Whether Mooney stays or not, this team has some gonads and we need to support them.
Speaking of Michigan and JB look at them again. Lose 3 of top 4 scorers and reloads & looking like a top team again. The best.
Exactly 2011, the “Hope they miss and the ball happens to bounce to me” defense isn’t cutting it.
Golden is so bad defensively, it's absurd. The caveat here is that he may be coached not to draw any contact since we need him on offense, but just watch those highlights and look at him on the defensive end. He rarely even jumps to try to alter shots. At some point when you are not even contesting shots within the paint, it's counterproductive no matter how many points he may score on the other end.
I do believe it’s one of the key points of emphasis of our defense to not commit fouls. All teams obviously teach it to some extent but we really emphasize it while not emphasizing toughness etc. to the same degree. Combined with our rebounding philosophy, we are soft basically by choice!
I think Coach has new glasses to look at Euro players now. Just like CoachMcKill already. Was very easy. Keep the fight Andre; and Coach now you have high ball screen clona lopta with entry pass to pivot roll for score. I think we forgot how to do this other times but nice times now because we DO NOW. Keep the fight Andre.
