Forecast for Duquesne

Dislike. "Holding" a team to 46% isn't indicative of good defense. Neither is 34% of 3s. it might be good for us, but let's not confuse "good for us" with "good."
I mean close competitive losses now get portrayed as wins by our coaching staff, so easy to confuse things these days. Mooney's got a little Orwell in him.

2) I predict the Dukes get in a brawl at some point this season. A bunch of cocky punks that are going to get their due. Unfortunately, all that happened in our game was a T on Grant for a tiny push.

Ummm, did you watch the game or just going complete homer? Golden was out of control, any time he doesnt get his way, he over reacts. He needs to chill.
I was at the game and my guess is you weren’t. My comment included Grant’s “push”, but that wasn’t the focus of the comment. The Dukes apparently think they are “it” and had all sorts of comments and gestures during and at the conclusion of the game. I am sure that other A10 teams aren’t going to be as polite as the Spiders were last night.

As far as the “push”, I have seen Grant way more out of control than last night and as others mentioned in this thread and others, he needs to learn to stop the disgust routine because it isn’t helping matters.

I wasn't shocked by the T but it was a flop job. Grant barely pushed the guy ... who went flailing back. it's weak. Grant wasn't out of control. then the PG comes all 3rd-man-in and pushes Grant just as hard in the lower back. if Grant was an actor he could sell that. I'm glad he didn't but still.

the guy that bothered me was the guy (Carey?) who clapped for 20 seconds straight after somehow drawing a BS foul when he traveled with absolutely no contact.

Mooney has an 11-year contract that pays him$1.2 million annually. This is his 14th year, so he will have earned more than$14 million by the end of his current contract.
Nice recovery. So your basis was a lifetime compensation and achievement comparison. Didn’t seem that way in the original comment.

The only thing I was pointing out was that the Duquesne contract appears to be a reach just like the CM one in 2011. Sure Dambrot has time to turn things around and I said as much. I was just pointing out that I was not impressed with his coaching in this particular game. As you can guess from my second random comment in that post, I think it would be great if the Dukes lost the rest of their games and I won’t be watching any of their future ones this season unless there is a rematch in the tournament.

Still haven't posted a video of themselves jumping up and down in our visitors' locker room, though...
Duquesne is a lot more "it" than us. No reason to criticize them for winning when we can't do it ourselves. I have no problem with them celebrating. They have been an abysmal program for quite some time now and seem to be on the come up. I would love to see that kind of energy in our program.

Flop jobs have been going against us since D-Will at the end of the infamous Charlotte meltdown. (And beyond)

I'm also glad we don't do it.

He is referencing our locker room celebration last year at Duquesne, which was pathetic when we did it. I mean who celebrates a win over Duquesne. I'm sure Duquesne remembered it though.

May have provided a little extra motivation last night.

I was not aware of that “incident”, so I guess we have a rivalry on our hands??

I wonder what the Duquesne fans think of this recent celebration.......

Definitely understand that comment. Hope you enjoy the tennis.

The AO is the most awesome sports party I've ever been to. Two more days of tennis then renting a car and driving up the coast and through the mountains for beaches and hiking; eventually to Sydney 500 miles away. Then flying to New Zealand for 16 days of exploring. The best part is that it's summer here, 80's and sunny every day.

The Aussies are great people who obviously enjoy life. If I didn't have family (and you guys are part of my family) back home, I would live here....

Our defense did not help. In the last 10 minutes of the game, they went 5-5 from 2 point land, and 4-7 from 3 point land, for a total of 9-12 (75%) and 22 points. That's not good enough to win. It's also not "good".

I'd say that, plus missed FTs, were the biggest player performance factors that led to the loss.

Kind of silly, don't care if we or our opponents do or don't celebrate a win at home or away in any locker room....it's just some fun after an OT win but a stretch if it was just looking for some motivation for the Dukes. My bigger question is who filmed and posted it? and why?

Agreed - hadn't really thought about it until some posters had mentioned the Dukes had a little extra "attitude" last night.

Why make it public, indeed.

sometimes guys make shots even when defended. sometimes guy miss open shots. in general, I thought our defense was good last night. Nate lost sight of the corner and got lobbed on a couple of times. one time we got caught doubling the big and I think Noah didn't rotate down enough. but the defense was good enough to win.

Duquesne defensively really recovered well and closed out quickly on our outside looks. maybe that was a good thing, as it forced us to be more patient and we shot 62% from 2. but with only 2 threes, bad foul shooting, and getting our shots blocked so many times ... still another frustrating loss.

55% from the FT line. Loss
I've spent a long time waiting to hear that the team was kept in the Robins Center after a game so each player could take at least 200 free throws. Oh wait I must have been dreaming about my brief time at Duke taking grad courses and the then new coach Mike Krzyzewski didn't believe in messing around when the team could not hit free throws.

Nathan said they work on free throws every day.
as a team we're currently at 67.7%

want to guess what duke's shooting from the line with Mike "I don't believe in messing around" Krzyzewski as coach?

We held them to 46% from the field, and 34% from 3. The defense was good tonight, but very few teams will win with only 2 made 3s.

Mooney's team defense maybe was good but not at the end of the game when it was needed. Kind of like Mooney is as with his end of game coaching. Bottom line, whatever the different reasons Mooney's team lose this game or that game, Mooney seems to find them in assisting his team to get the L.

Rick sounds like a great trip. Next time though, do us all a favor and invite Mooney on this trip with you.

Agree generally, except I would say our defense was "better" and not "good". To be sure, one of the 5 for 5 was the ridiculous Sincere Carry bank shot with Gustavson all over him. There's nothing I would have changed about Gustavson's D, and the guy made a lucky-ass shot.

i guess every kid gets a trophy. second place is good enough. however, we will not finish in top 4 four. Another lost season two years in a row...

Ha! And have to listen to him talk about how well my favorite tennis players "competed"?

Off to watch the Bryan twins....

I just want to make sure I'm clear about this thread:

Keith Dambrot is a really good coach that has done really good things with a really young team and we should absolutely go try and hire him away from Duquesne, but also Keith Dambrot is someone that Chris Mooney has no business losing to? I'm confused.

Guess when we are 14 -2 and have entered the week number 1 in one poll and number 2 in the other we can back off our intensity on free throw practice - what do you think?

I have to admit I’m not well versed on Dambrot’s career but it looked like he has been able to recruit some feisty, athletic players. Our video folks were especially impressed with Duquesne’s two alley oops. Honest question: when was the last alley opp dunk we had?

I have a nephew in Brisbane and loves it, applying for citizenship. The other nephew is in Sydney with strong ties to the US east coast and will be returning home soon after a three year work obligation. On my bucket list.

How many games this season have we failed to close? It seems like one after another.

They hung 74 on us. If giving up 74 qualifies as good defense we really have reset the bar.

I still say it was good. it is fine to disagree, but I think we can all agree it was good enough to win, and our poor three-point shooting and free throw shooting cost us the game. I don't see us winning any games when we only shoot 11 threes, and only make two. That should never happen.

Well, CBB teams allowing 74ppg on average sit around 250 or so out of 350+ teams.

So no, it’s really not good and it’s not really an alternative facts type argument. It only feels like it was good because on the balance our defense is just really poor.

Nowhere close to an alternative fact. Sometimes, you can give up 74 points and a team shoots 60% with only a couple of turnovers. Other times, like last night, you can give up 74 points, and a team shoots 46% and has double digit turnovers. You cannot just look at points as a tell all. If that were the case, that means we played better defense against Dayton (72 points) than last night. Do you really think that is the case?
