Fordham in game

Beck, who are you quoting? Some tv announcers that see us play once a year? And I love it when they say moondog is a great in-game coach.

Umm. Sherod has the best 3 point shooting percentage on the team. (Blake is fourth.) Certainly not the only metric to be considered, but sitting Sherod doesn't make sense. Team is taking what the opponent gives them this year. Different folks shine in different games accordingly.

Burton just shy of a double-double 8pts and 9 rebounds in 15 minutes.
Burton had a couple of fouls in the last few minutes of the game that could have killed us. He’ll learn but there will be some bumps on the way. Thanks goodness today’s didn’t end our slim hopes. Sherod needs to get thru this extended slump

Extended slump? Nick was 19 for his last 40 in 3s before today.

I am flattered that you think I am Greg Beckwith, but I assure you I am not.

Mooney is an elite coach. You must learn to embrace it. He lets these terrible teams build up leads just to prove his mettle. Where is the challenge in just putting away a Quad 4 opponent? This is the elite way the elite-est of the elitists do it. It's brilliant, next level stuff.

But shooting 3’s isnt the whole game. Yes he can contribute when he knocks down a good % of 3’s but when he doesn’t he is a liability. He is very slow on D, doesnt rebound and doesnt drive to the hoop and get fouls

Our previous game against GW, he was 5-9 (2-2 from 3), 3-3 from the line, had 5 boards, 2 assists, 4 steals, and no turnovers. And, I'm still trying to figure out how a bad shooting night means extended slump.

doesnt rebound

So what does that say about Cayo as a rebounder? You do know Nick averages more boards per game than Nathan. Not bad for a 3 who really is undersized for the position. Guess who leads the Spiders in rebounding for conference play?

Other than that can't stop saying it's great to have 4 players who can go off on any night for 20/25 points. If a couple aren't scoring UR still can beat teams that should be beaten. Even Cayo doesn't surprised me if he scored 20. Nice win yesterday. That's all that counts!

PS Thank you Blake!

That was among the worst 10 minutes of basketball I've seen us play in a really long time. It was a dreadful first half, glad to see the guys somewhat get it together in the second half.

While I don't think we should be ecstatic about the effort, good teams don't fall apart and lose to bad teams, so at least we managed to maintain that theory.

i think this game is bad for the bubble fans. The struggle to win is big problem. Does the team struggle to win against not so good teams? Does the team struggle to win the big games? This is NIT team not bubble team. We started season then had the gas . Sorry I am saying I do not see hat other fans see in this team now today

fezz, with all due respect, I have never heard the committee say that a team didn’t make the tourney because of a close win. A win is a win, especially on the road. Ugly, but it’s a win. Move on and beat LaSalle.

B, with all due respect, what have you ever heard the committee say as to why a team didn't make the tourney?

Usually, they never give specifics - it's something along the lines of "We felt [NCAA Team]'s resume was slightly better than [NIT Team]'s."

A close win against a terrible team is reflected in a team's ratings, which the committee does use to evaluate prospective teams.

Fezz is using his own eye test. Watching this game he sees that this team is not ncaa quality and at the end of the season, the resume will reflect that. We barely beat some poor teams, even lost to one, and dont win most of the games against good teams. He doesnt see that changing and neither do I. (I hope im accurate in my assessment fezz)

When Sherod is "on" his game he lifts and can carry the team. Leads in 3 pointers made with 57 and is second in percentage of 3 pointers made at .413. Verbinskis is 3 of 3 on three pointers for a 1.000 percent.

We improved our NET ranking two spots (57 to 55) after yesterday’s results.
Yes, our NET ranking, which is where we are relative to other teams, went up two. 3 teams ahead of us fell (1 in a big upset), and 1 team behind us pulled off a big upset.
We have no idea how our NET "score" was affected by our game against Fordham, because that is not made public.

Fezz, thinking the same thing. I know this is just "one game" and a "road win" but come one. Fordham looked like absolute crap, and we were almost as bad, no energy, sloppy, etc. I watch a good bit of college hoops (and probably a little spoiled after watching my second favorite team) but geez the stinkers we have rolled out after starting out so strong vs URI. New coach or bust.

That's the thing about bubble teams though. Are we a clear cut tourney team? Definitely not.

But the teams ranked +/- 40 thru 60 are all flawed, all have bad losses, and are all prone to drop games they probably shouldn't. Hopefully we can keep finding a way to win while those around us falter.

This is wishful thinking, we may luck into a bid if all the stars align, and we have a few good games at the right times and other teams falter at just the right time. But, long term, mooney SUCKS and is sucking the life out of the program. Just aiming to get by and be 4700 and PQ and Jabba's boy. Yeahh!!!!!

Disagree with your view of Nick -- he's not all american, agreed, but Nick is a heck of a player and a smart one. He uses his skills the best he can, remember he missed last season with an injury that would be career ending for some.

My issue with Nick isn’t that he can’t do more (he’s shown he can), but there are some games he’s a passenger and at points it just looks like effort (especially on D or getting picked at the top of the key on a drive then sulking).

He’s a real difference maker and leader when he’s locked in and on, but I just don’t think we get that version of Nick enough (or even 70% locked in Nick enough).

I would like to see Nick back his guy down all the way to basket at least 3-4 times a game. That's the aggressive version of him we need. It will also open things up outside.

Give Fordham and Neubauer some credit here - they had a good game plan for a team that was severely outmatched in terms of talent. They played physical with us - especially on the perimeter, fighting over screens and bumping our guards. Some were called, some were not called (they did have 24 total fouls to our 11). And then on offense, they just took our guards off the dribble and made the right pass most of the time. First half - they hit the open man and were hitting their shots. 2nd half - the shots didn't fall as much, and when they got behind - they didn't know what to do and panicked.
This is where I think we struggle with better teams who do have talent that can match us. They can play physical with us on defense, but have the talent and players to match us on offense.
A win is a win - but I thought it was good try by Neubauer and his staff to play overly physical. We also shot 16-27 from the FT line - which helped their strategy as well.

We also saw Grant struggle with a big athletic (but not really skilled) center. Work on that outside jumper
