Why would you take an AD job if you knew you didn't have the ability to hire and fire coaches? I get that it's never going to be ONLY the AD's decision, but he or she should have the most important vote.
I guarantee Hardt knew whether he would have that authority when he accepted the job. If he accepted it knowing he didn't have that power, then he's just another Gill collecting paychecks.

I’m disappointed, but we know for a fact that Mooney will be fired next year, by Hardt,
if we’re not where we’re supposed to be. Read between the lines of Hardt’s comments .
Have we ever fired an AD other than when Frank Jones was told he could not be both FB coach and AD?
Shafer just wasn't extended. His contract was up. Bit of a difference, IMO.

Thought about that as counting - he resigned to work for the A-10 and named this week as Sun Belt Conference Commissioner. Leaving us was "worked out" as face saving deal.....
No, he was fired. Not extending a coaches contract is the same.
It’s a way not to make it look as harsh if the opportunity allows for it.
Honestly, Shafer did not have a contract. Really, it is a decision to offer a new contract to the worst coach in D1?
don't pretend to know what he can do on his own, just speculating that he may not have the power. we all have had job offers which did not give us exactly what we wanted but maybe still took the position or looked hard at it.
It’s a combination. He doesn’t have autonomy on big decisions although he wants u to believe he does. That is partly where the pretentiousness comes in. If u looked up “big hat no cattle” Hardt would be right there.
But his eval/strategy & competency leave lot to be desired too. Fired Shafer. Lol. Shafer would have been let go as a high school coach. 0 for 14 & trending down. Hardt wasted a year waiting an additional year. Now doing same thing w Mooney.

Queally as member of BOT should have no involvement in hiring or firing athletic coaches, this is UR policy. In reality that isn’t followed anywhere but we r still violating policy. queally’s influence needs to be reined in some. Some part of me sees the way he throws his influence around to be just as bad as what all the rich folk who bought their kids into unversities did.

Well if it weren’t for some generous rich folks, we would be attending basketball games at Millhiser Gym and playing football at city stadium.
The problem is taking money with conditions attached to it. Not saying if we do or don't, but it certainly seems to be the former as far as Queally goes, just based upon observation.
Money has influence but the hope would be it is not undue influence. That view can be regarded as naive but there is a role for integrity.
the people using the guy out in california broke laws, committed fraud, big difference between them and a wealthy alum/donor, who wants to influence things around campus. if wealthy, would give big but would do it anonymously, would not want a building named after me or anyone to know i was involved. that is just me and have no qualms with those who gave generously and have buildings, just happy they shared with my university.

Smartest man I’ve ever known but I may be biased. He was born in ‘31 so I’m guessing he lived in them as a freshman which is kinda how i remember the stories.
Of course they are going to be negative with the way the last two seasons have gone and not dancing for 8 seasons straight. You mention “other boards” not being negative... which are you implying. I think any that have been as bad as the Spiders have been, will have an equally negative board, and possibly more so because most dan bases are more passionate than UR’s.
I lived in one my freshman year. Everyone in there was a freshman except for the senior monitor
that lived there for free.
They were horrible, but we all survived.
I can say I would do this or do that, but I really don't know what I would do in his situation? Everyone looking out for themselves and possibly wants to keep his job. If you can't beat them, just join them. Unfortunate but if no A10 regular season or tournament title this season maybe Hardt says no more Mooney? If Mooney has been given this much time, no reason for me to not give Hardt one more year.

Once the rank-and-file fan gives the ticket office and the Spider Club leadership an earful about the AD's (in)actions over the past couple of weeks, they'll realize that they made a huge....wait, what am I saying? They won't bat an eye. They can't, because the whole department has their heads in the sand.
