Spiders Power Past Saint Francis on Senior Day, 6-1

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The Spider Hockey team powered past Saint Francis on Sunday afternoon for a 6-1 Senior Day victory. With the win, the Spiders have secured a spot in the Atlantic 10 Tournament.
The Spiders took control early, it wasn't until about two minutes remaining in the half were able to break through and find the back of the cage. SeniorHannah Thomson gave the Spiders a 1-0 lead on a penalty stroke.
Off a corner, Saint Francis evened the score five minutes into the second half. The Spiders responded immediately scoring three goals in two and a half minutes. Junior Olivia Hubert started the outburst knocked the ball in on a deflection from a corner to put Richmond back on top, 2-1. FreshmanFlorentine Beelaerts van Blokland and senior Kasey Gilbride also had goals during the onslaught.
Sophomore Abby Lyons and junior Emily Bowe each added a goal en route to the Spiders' win.
The Spiders will conclude the regular season at Atlantic 10 foe, Massachusetts on Friday, October 27. The season finale is slated for a 12:00 p.m. start time.
