2024 Baseball Season

Yes, we have a losing record but there seems to be more momentum and purpose in our program than any time in the last 10 years. Excited to see what happens going forward, especially if the university increases institutional support, as has been reported. We need to start being a regular in the NCAA tournament.

I agree re: momentum. But let’s take advantage of ncaa chances now. Being a regular in ncaa baseball is extremely hard from A10. We could have future better reg seasons but r odds may still not be as high for ncaa if we win tomorrow. Will still almost always come down to a10 tourney. Winner of ur-vcu game in clear drivers seat. I agree it’s an all out all hands on deck game tomorrow imo.

Maybe we can emulate Kent State a bit. They r northern school but do quite well as mid major. Not sure if MAC league rankings. But Kent has good history even been to CWS ~10 years ago. I’ve been to their field it’s nice. Not big grandstands but they have some chair backs we need to do that. Also their outfield walls r impressive. They promote the heck out of ncaa & cws on them. Not sure we have signage like on ours idk. Sean Casey son plays at Kent btw.

SJU puts up a 4 spot in the bottom of the third inning, and lead SLU 5-0.

DeSanto so far: 3 IP, 2 H, 2 K

Yes, loser is out.

And then GW and winner play at 7 tonight and loser of that one is out as well. Survivor of that one gets the loser of tomorrow morning's UR/VCU game.

Wow. Most of the damage has come off of Ethan Bell, a Senior who has been one of SLU's most reliable arms all year. Coming into this game, he had a 4-1 record, 6 saves, and a sub 3 ERA.

Anything can happen in these tournaments...

Three more for the Hawks and it's 13–0, only heading to the 6th.

Bell faced 17 batters, giving up 9 hits (3 homers) and 2 HBP. Was responsible for 9 runs (all earned) with an ERA of 40.50 for the game.

DeSanto is through 6, and has held the Billikens to 2-20 hitting today. Not sure what his pitch count is but could be another complete game brewing.

I agree. Still think we need to find a way to attract more local talent. I know it's difficult with limited scholarships and high tuition, but there is some awesome high school baseball played in Richmond. Lots of D1 talent. Mills Godwin alone has a couple kids going to W/M, one to VCU, and one to Alabama. Real opportunity for UR to grow the program locally and keep some kids at home. Find a way to make the money work. Take advantage of being a southern school in the A10.

Take advantage of program for low tuition for VA residents. I think household income of less than $60K.

Problem is that none of the baseball talent in Tuckahoe, Glen Allen, Midlo, etc. will qualify for that. Baseball is becoming a rich kid's sport, unfortunately.

VCU -238 favorite today vs. Spids.

idk could be the 1st ever gambling line on Spiders baseball

GW chases the Hawks' starter with two outs in the 2nd...Revs up 5–2.

9–2 GW into the bottom of the 3rd. Hawk pitchers really struggling...eight hits, five walks, couple of wild pitches.

The good news is that both of these teams are probably going to use 5-7 pitchers apiece to get through this game. If we do end up losing and having to play again tonight, the other team is going to be pretty depleted on the mound.

Hawks get the walk-off win, 13–12. Guess our game should start around 3:30 at the earliest.

GW has a short trip back home.

Per the live stats link, it will be Ymker to start today as I suspected.

VCU is going with Christian Gordon - last pitched against us on May 17th against us.

Ymker is already done, Reinke coming in. Let's see what Aoki's strategy is with pitchers today. Gotta think he's doing this to try to keep the game close.

Ymker is done...Reinke is in with 2 out and runners on 1st and 2nd.

Edit: And Reinke gets the out. Okay, let's see what our bats can do.

Danger zone…it’s still close enough to go for it but if it gets much more than 6-0 you gotta think about conserving arms to try to win 3 straight.

Really bad start for us. Lots of baseball left but have to wonder if there’s a certain point we accept to defeat and not use up our best pitchers this game. Will have to win the next 3 in a row. Not ideal

Wonder who we'll have available for tonights game vs. St. Joe's. Expecting Hinchliffe to open, with Topolski/Ymker/Hentschel ready to follow. Would be surprised if we don't have to go to Armson or Clifton as well. Maybe Roche will be called on for an inning or two as well, but would love to try to save him and E-Rod for tomorrow if we can.

Boarding a plane so can’t watch, but per live stats Roche is on the mound. Aoki not taking any chances.
