FDU Game

Ok maybe going for the backdoor cover tonight.

Whole D looks good again, esp Goose but Quinn with some nice blocks or shot altering tonight against the smaller team. Goose two gimmes tho what was that...really should have gone in for the dunk on first one, slowed and missed it.

Ok now maybe going for the live betting cover.

Don't foresee anyone complaining about PT after this one, starters will be sitting lot more.

On another note, do we normally try to angle opponents’ wing players to the baseline as we are doing tonight on defense? I haven’t noticed it before but may have missed it. I guess we don’t want them shooting threes and would rather them drive the lane and get stuffed by Quinn since we have a big height advantage?

we do it but definitely looks more blatantly intentional tonight

I think the team just said stock the bickering and just watch us play … Go Spiders. Going for 4-0 in games that MFG started and didn’t end the game injured …

Spiders getting sloppy on both ends. Walz definitely needs some work...starting his post possessions too far out, and lost a bit on D turning his back on the ball. But this is his chance to learn in live action. Also like that we're getting practice against the press, can never have too much of that.

That’s why these early games will pay off down the road.

More impressive than 9 pts in half I think is the back to back starts of 22-2 and 24-1. Gotta be some kind of UR record hard to see happening again. Or for lots of teams, With opposition pt total so low and pt spread so big. May need Elias or someone on that one.

We got sloppy last 10 but I think that's to be expected w deep bench. Tho Noyes showing off nice stroke with couple 3 balls. May even earn a chance at couple mins in a bigger spot. maybe we'll leave that alone or it will break the board. The frontcourt Quinn Bigs Burton Grace was very good overall tonight across the board. Roche stroke looked sweet.

I've said this b4 but I believe Goose hits the corner 3 ball well. Not talking just this year but historically. Obv I don't have analytics on that but I'd love to validate that theory. Get him 3 ball shots there. He's also our 2nd best ball handler, by far imo.

FDU looked bad no doubt and a weak program, but because it was coming off our Drake blowout I think u give more cred to Spids than just say FDU is awful. But we really need to see a road effort in Clemson.

btw why didn't Randolph credit for the basket off his pass that went off the FDU defender? That was some clean living. He'll never make a lower percentage shot than that lol.

Maybe they r saying Burton touched it. I didn't see Randolph get a 2 pt basket credited in box score. Only saw it the once but looked like cleanly off the defender and didn't touch Burton. But I gather it must have or its a weird scoring error.

24-2 over Drake with 11:31 left first half, FDU 24-1 with 9:17…

This is the NBA rule but thinking NCAA has the same rule -

A field goal accidentally scored in an opponent's basket shall be added to the opponent's score, credited to the opposing player nearest the player whose actions caused the ball to enter the basket.

It looks like nobody should have gotten credit for it, unless that carom isn’t considered “released” or something.

“When a player scores a field goal in the opponent’s basket, it shall count two points for the opponent regardless of the location on the playing court from where it was released. Such a field goal shall not be credited to a player in the scorebook but shall be indicated with a footnote.”

Thanks spider fan. I agree that must be it. I was thinking it would be scored more like the NHL. A deflected pass off defender goes to who passed it (OT Ovi just got #800). This bball rule works imo where off a missed shot u have a few guys reaching for rebound and/or tipping it out and a defender tips it in accidentally. In this weird situation it doesn't work, Burton didn't really do anything. But they probably want an all encompassing rule.

Interesting. But that sounds like a player accidentally going the wrong way or something and shooting in wrong basket. I had looked at box score already & all our points were accounted for to players.

Okay, here's some more detail from the statistician's manual...

----------

Article 8. When a field goal is scored in Team A’s basket after last being touched by a player on Team B, score the play as follows:

(a) If the touching by Team B was an attempt to block a shot by Team A and did not appreciably alter its flight, then such touching is ignored.

(b) If the touching by Team B came after an attempt, either a FGA or a FTA, by Team A that had obviously missed and there was no control by Team B, then a FGA or FTA is charged to Team A on the original shot. No FGM is credited or FGA charged on the tip-in to either team. Instead, two points are added to Team A’s score and a footnote is added to explain the extra points. Also, a dead-ball rebound is credited to Team A. On the box score, the two points should appear on the line used for team rebounds. An asterisk should be placed by the two points and an explanation for the asterisk should be written in the form of a footnote.

(c) If the touching by Team B was a deflection of a ball last in control of Team A but not shot by Team A, then no FGA is charged or FGM credited to either team. The procedure for accounting for the two points is the same as in (b) above.

(d) If the ball was last in control of Team B, then no FGA is charged or FGM credited to either team. The procedure for accounting for the two points is the same as in (b) above. Additionally, charge a player on Team B with a turnover.

----------

This is clearly situation (c)...Randolph was passing, not shooting, so no FGA or FGM should be credited to anyone and the box score should show it on the team rebounds line with a footnote.

There's even an example in the manual that essentially describes this exactly:

"A.R. 3. Allen attempts to pass the ball to Adams. Brown deflects the ball into Team A’s basket. RULING: Do not credit a FGM, but add the two points in the form of a footnote as described in Article 8-(b)."

The officials/statistician must not have realized that it was a tip by the FDU player and not Burton. It did happen very quickly and Burton was also reaching for it.

So cool to see UR just too tall for another team. We could have won this by 50+. The Starters, Bigelow and Roche played great. Good for the 3rd tier bench to get in 10 minutes of playing time. I will be applying stick’em to Bailey’s hands next game.

Agree with all of this. Defense has been outstanding. Currently 47th in defensive efficiency. Guys are really getting after it, and Quinn is doing a great job in the lane blocking and altering shots. 13 made 3s tonight. Nice to see Bigelow find his stroke tonight. Offense looks like it getting more and more comfortable. Movement and sets look better with each game. Very sloppy with the ball as you said. Some turnovers are okay because you won't play turnover free basketball, but we continue to have some inexcusable ones that we just aren't used to seeing. Need to clean those up, but lots of positives again tonight. Need to keep rolling.

A thorough drubbing last night by our Spiders, exactly what we should do against a clearly inferior team. It was great both of the last two games to see us jump out to a lead and then keep on pushing the lead out further and further and never allowing a sliver of hope to our opponent.

I don't know exactly what has changed the last two games but I hope we keep it going, winning is fun.

One thing I agree with VT about is that we do tend to get more posts after losses than wins so hope we all start posting a lot as our winning streak continues to grow. I think we could be in a pretty sweet situation to have the talent of Bigelow to complement Tyler. Clearly Bigelow has had a few ups and downs but is crazy talented and also rebounds well. Excitement building already for Clemson game.

Another great start. Let's see how it translates to Clemson. I would still like to see Quinn on the block more instead at the top of the 3 point line, but hard to complain about the results last 2 games. Beat Clemson!

Missed the first half and then re-watched it later. Not much to complain about. Someone mentioned about turnovers, but I think many of those were in garbage time - which does not make them OK - but I understand the human nature/mental aspect of those. I did get a good chuckle when I saw Randolph try a long pass out of the trap that looked like it was in the air for 10 seconds before getting stolen or going of bounds. Mooney was walking down the bench to tag Goose in before it landed. Dji had a couple turnovers late. Watched the first half and thought Dji had a really good game driving and dishing and grabbing boards. Randolph looked confident shooting the 3 and knocked down the first one.
Time for everyone to step it up another notch vs Clemson.
