Fan gathering

get Mooney to give u his mask and autograph it & I will buy it for big $$.

I happily will. I will have my old school Richmond hat on that I haven’t worn in at least a couple years. I’d be happy to talk to anyone on here that will be attending about this awesome game!

You should be forced to wear a sign like Hester Prynne that says "I predicted that you will go 12-15 this year"
yeah, that was weird. and not just from a Spider fan. anyone knowledgeable about this team can see we're very strong. what we were years ago doesn't matter to this roster.

Nice to see a crowd out there. Even though we probably won't be able to attend games this year it was a brief return to normalcy even for a minute and my pup got to meet some of the players. Got to catch up with some sth friends I hadnt seen since Feb and realized how much I miss going to these games. I really don't care about not being able to go out to eat or bars but it kills me I can't see this team live. I made sure my neighboors knew we were playing today, Im sure they hate me but the Spider flag waves proudly through the air as they walk/drive by as it always has, Im just going to be a little louder now.

Ferrum, sorry we couldn't "meet" but had my crew there.

712, you were a no-show? Sup brah?

Sorry, was planning on seeking you out but then my pup thought everyone was there to see her. She loved going to lax games before covid so that coupled with all the cheering people she thought she was getting the red carpet treatment. Hoping to take part in more of those this season.

Honestly why r we interacting w the players & coaches? This didn’t sound socially distanced at all. I’m not covid cray cray but why. Wave & cheer from a distance they appreciate but geez let the team be.

Gotcha.... My daughter made friends with your pup.

GK, to be fair, I'm not a huge social distance/precaution guy, but felt like it was surprised tonight. A few bumps, hugs amongst family, masks everywhere.

LOL then I feel really dumb if you were the family right next to me and didn't notice it unless it was your wife and daughter at the end coming to say hello? My pup doesn't have a lot of children and is a herder so I am a little more guarded with how she interacts with kids for both their safety. Feel free to come say hi if you see either of us walking around campus sometime or if were ever allowed at games again.

We're less than 48 hours since the gathering, so a positive test this soon based on an exposure there would be unlikely. But yes, I agree it may not have been the smartest idea.

Unlikely yes but there was no reason to get that close. None. We don't want Farmers.com who thinks Mooney is the Anti-Christ giving him a fist bump even in a disease free world.

Yes , have no idea the spacing of the team and staff from the road, but next time maybe fans should be about 100 feet away. Can still have fun with the fans but let's keep the distance. Really hoping this is a false positive, that would be ideal.

Incredibly selfish of any fan that got close to the team. Even if nothing occurred, the team and staff are sacrificing a lot to try to keep the program going. I do not agree with all of the rules, but those rules are what we have to live with if we want a basketball season. If the team can sacrifice, you can deal with not interacting with the team. So dumb and selfish if this group of fans got close to the team.

Wonder how many people thinking and saying this went over or had family over for thanksgiving or have gone out to eat that involved no mask wearing vs going to a 5-10 minute celebration outdoors where everyone was wearing masks and keeping distance?

So are you saying the celebration wasn’t a mask less dogpile on the team?

People need to recognize that getting COVID from a gathering like this(not the fan gathering, which from all accounts appears to be done safely,) might not kill them or even make them seriously ill, but it sure as hell is gonna shut down their lives for 2 solid weeks and seriously disrupt the lives of other people that they come in close personal contact with.

It's just a really bad look. I have no idea if it was properly social distanced but anecdotes on here about fist bumps with the coach (hopefully a joke but who knows) and getting close enough to players that their dog could interact make it sound like we as fans did not keep distance. I don't think the team invited the fans to come greet them in a non-socially distanced way. Especially three days after Thanksgiving when most of you probably got together with extended family. Getting together with family is a personal choice we should all have. But stay away from the team when not invited so you don't potentially ruin their season.

My arm and dog leash are well over 6 feet long. Although she wasn't wearing a mask I am confident she did not have the covid and I tested negative prior to my visit for thanksgiving with my two parents in Richmond who have been in near isolation the last few months and the only two people I had any interaction with prior to sunday. You don't really get covid from fist bumps and scratching dogs heads you get it from aerosols and need roughly a 8-10 (typically in an enclosed space) minute exposure to transmit it. If you have eaten out, gone to church (maskless) had large family gathering, traveled out of town (I've done not one of these since the start of covid) for vacation, all things that made this things exponentially worse, then I don't really want to hear about going to cheer on something that was advertised, not spoken out by anybody until today, when people were all wearing masks about how selfish they are. That's not what's going to kill a season, our collective attitude towards it the last 9 months are. I get the frustration I do and even the bad look/idea part, I just think you're fussing at the wrong people if you are worrying about corona virus cancelling the season.

my understanding of this virus is that it's very unlikely that someone would test positive Tuesday morning after Sunday night contact. it doesn't transmit and express itself that fast.

much more likely whoever caught this got it a few days earlier.

hopefully it's contained and hopefully not a severe case.

I agree with what both of you said. But that doesn't matter, just think about the crazy environment we are in where the smallest thing could shut down the program for 2 weeks. Is there really a need to take that risk right now? Be smarter and don't be selfish.

Sorry guys, I just accidentally coughed on my phone. I’ve been home the past couple weeks, but you might all want to go get tested if you’ve been reading this forum for more than 15 minutes at closer than arm’s length.

I hope you are as passionate with your family and friends and holding yourself to an even tighter standard on this topic as you are with strangers on the internet who took proper precautions. If everyone would take that approach then maybe it never would of gotten to this point.
