Expectations for Randolph Macon exhibition game

Yep, I am happy the team has some competition in practice now. Love how it sounds like Woj is on a mission, hope Mooney is giving him a chance to earn some time. It just seems that the last two seasons the line up and pt was completely set on day 1 of practice and we came out duller than a bowling ball in OOC.

You need to type even slower to convince me Moondoggle has not been sucking wind on the recruiting trail the last 7 years. We have landed some good players but I (and most posters on here) have been able to identify major holes each season - and Mooney whiffs. So type as slow as you want but that has been the case. We could have used a Burton type last year, so that he was ready for the next step this season. Just read an article about some up and coming sophs at SBU, SLU, VCU etc that are super athletic, put up decent numbers last year and poised for break out this year.

"some" good players? We could have used LeBron last year as well. How do you know Burton wont ready to do on day 1? Your posts that continue to harp on the past over and over and over, get boring.

How about an original thought every know and then? We know the last 2 years sucked. This year is different. We have EVERYONE back for the first time in god knows how long? We are teaching 5 freshman how to play college basketball, how to study, how to this and that..... Let's look ahead.....Losers keep looking backward--must be a Hillary supporter.

A) no politics please
B) there’s certainly some frustration in the decidedly pessimistic tenor on here these days but there’s also an annual preseason rush to crown how good and deep we will be that has limited evidence to support it

Good news we’ll have some actual evidence of how we look in a couple of weeks.

In 13 of 14 seasons under Mooney, we have been over 300+ in rebounding. We do not emphasize it, so it's wishful thinking that this year it's suddenly going to become a focus. It will not be a focus.

I have a direct pipeline to Canadian meds, DM me if you want me to hook you up with some cost-effective Cardizem. I also have booze and fish paralyzer.
Thanks, Mr. T. May take you up on the booze. Cheers!

OK, my post replying was deleted, and this one was too - but I guess reinstated. Selected censorship I suppose. No I did not vote for Hillary or Trump - I think they are both despicable people. If you must know.

Back on topic. This is not just the last two years Mooney cannot fill out a roster - it's basically every year since our last NCAA birth, and he has the same coaching flaws, and never brings in assistants to help.

I did look over and see the Triumvirate hanging out at the football game Saturday. It would appear we are stuck in this long term with PQ's buddy Mooney and puppet Hardt. We just need to pull for the players and hope they can overcome.

Were they all eating Buz and Ned's? Hardt is a meat and potatoes guy. Never misses a meal.

R-MC was essentially a 40% team from 3 last season, and got to the D3 Sweet 16. Most of their best players are back. If they heat up from 3 they could give us a lot of trouble. Plus R-MC is a well-coached, disciplined team. I don't expect a blowout win for the Spiders.

I think Bob said they were a Top 5 preseason D-3 this year. We should have so much more athleticism than they do, this shouldn't be close.

R-MC returns a pair of starters. Junior All-American Buzz Anthony (Arnold, Md./Archbishop Spalding) was the 2019 ODAC Player of the Year. The point guard averaged 15.6 points per game. He was first in the conference and fifth in the nation with 180 assists, an average of 5.8 per contest. Anthony was seventh in the country in assist/turnover ratio at 3.21. He led the team with 157 rebounds, an average of 5.1 per game.

Senior guard Corey Bays (Bel Air, Md./CM Wright) averaged 11.3 points and shot nearly 46% from three-point range a season ago.

Under fifth-year head coach Josh Merkel, Randolph-Macon will play an exhibition game against the University of Richmond on Sunday, Nov. 3 at 6 p.m. in the Robins Center.

I've seen a few strong DIII teams recently. the biggest difference is size, especially front court size.
