I missed it, but wonder what's being censored here and why? This is a board and people should be free to speak their minds, any insight would be appreciated

No free speech anymore, that was in the United States before Obama.

I was just thinking it was Obama's fault. Kind of like missing open three pointers is Mooney's fault.

No, of course missed 3 pointers aren't his fault, but missed free throws and no rebounding are. :)

I thought the thread went "way over the line," a line that cannot easily be defined. But, it is a lot like the definition of pornography, which I believe was once defined by a Supreme Court Justice as follows: "I know it when I see it." That thread was a stinker, and burying it was a service to UR basketball fans, coaches and players, as well as future recruits.

Ahhhh, so I post you should put up or shut up, then you qualify your statement.

More than happy to compare Mensa membership ID's with you.

Will admit, I'm happy to see you're willing to be part of a solution though, as you later mentioned. As I started elsewhere, I'm not a fan of the delete, but given that I'm posting in the house run by someone else, I'm going to follow house rules.

Must say I hope an alternative venue becomes available, and it is not because of URFan, who does this for free (actually spends money/time away from his family for this endeavor).

I have complained before about posts being deleted/censored/locked or otherwise treated like Pravda where no one can say anything negative about Putin. This is a public forum for UR fans to share their opinions about the team, players, coaches, program etc. To delete or lock threads because someone doesn't agree with someone else's views, or thinks they are being too mean (waaaaaaaaaaaah!) or that they went over some arbitrary imaginary line is preposterous to say the least, and makes us look like a bunch of bush-league candy asses to anyone else who visits this forum. Not to mention the message it sends to the general public about what a soft, squishy, PC-dominated, "everyone is a winner" environment we have here at the University of Richmond.

Much like when Grandmaster Queally acquired a majority interest in our athletic department in 2012, I am ASHAMED to be a Spider right now. Bunch of BS if you ask me.

People on this forum need to stop being so butt-hurt over negativity, get up and rub some dirt on your hurt feelings and walk it off. This isn't Walt Disney World here ..... or is it???

I would not have deleted the thread, but it certainly was not our finest hour. Reflected poorly on our school and particularly poorly on some of our posters. We didn't look like "candy asses", but you are half right.

I appreciate this board, and am surprised that such a small school has this much activity on it's board. Some much bigger schools have nothing like this, or they are subscription only boards. Since my days at UR preceded the internet, and cable TV for the most part, I lost track of our basketball team after graduation. Newspapers were about the only way to know anything about the Spiders, and if you didn't live in Virginia, there wasn't much coverage.

This is probably not the ideal venue for relatives of players. I don't worry about the players, themselves, because they probably hear worse criticism from their coaches, if not their teammates. I don't know how recruits might judge the board, but I'm sure not much covered here, have they not heard before.

I don't think the board is over moderated. I know many of us have deleted messages, ourselves, after reflection.

Seems like basketball always brings out the worst. It's ok to be disappointed when your expectations are dashed but don't start a fight just because it makes you feel better to drag others into your depressive state.
Just start another discussion group for that and limit this board to sports.

Censorship of this public forum should be left to the individual in my opinion. Everyone is free to do what they wish with their own account.

If there is going to be an individual who publicly moderates, then I think it important that the individual properly identifies the problem. Applying the wrong medicine toward an illness will not cure the disease.

Honesty and clear headedness should make it obvious that there is a common denominator when these dust ups occur. Anyone paying attention can easily identify this individual. The common denominator finds different competitors to joust with, but there is almost always one constant.

All should be held to the same standard. Why, Mr. Moderator, do you not address this individual? Anytime anyone says something that the common denominator doesn't like, he replies with dismissive, smart aleck, personal attacks. Sarcastic personal attacks fuel a fire, and the next thing you know Jed is a millionaire.

The fact that people have differing opinions regarding strategy and tactics is not the problem.

Hey folks, if any of you thought you had a Pulitzer in the deleted thread, I'm sure Fan1 will release your contribution for posterity sake.

That thread was embarrassing, petty, and an overreaction. Does any of us want a recruit looking at that while he is making a decision?

Do we want another coach showing that to a potential recruit. Yes this is a fan message board and I abhor censorship but none of us want our rantings to hurt the program we all love.

This business about how negativity on a discussion forum looks to recruits, etc. is a smokescreen to put it politely. If what people say on a school's basketball forums has a negative impact on recruiting, then how do Kansas, Kentucky, and other top hoops schools consistently recruit at the level they do? Their discussion boards are mercilessly harsh and negative. We have a few people here who are negative or otherwise overreact to a loss and we go into full Pyongyang mode.

This really has nothing to do with recruiting, and everything to do with our collective thin-skinned, politically correct world view on this forum. I have NEVER heard any recruit for any program ever say that he based any part of his recruiting decision on how polite the fans were on the schools sports discussion board. It is the acme of bloviated self-importance to think that the rantings of a few frustrated fans makes any difference whatsoever in our recruiting efforts.

It's simply a convenient excuse for censorship (arbitrary censorship with no explanation at that) to avoid grown-ass men from having their widdle feewings hurt. It's pathetic.

No Pulitzer, but I thought my comment about taking the dead and wounded off the battlefield was pretty damn funny.....

Ok Oldie so sawwwey to offend you and upset your innocent virgin mind with "negativity". Hahahahahahaha and please refrain from saying "stinker" it is offensive language.

Hahahahahahaha hilarious. Thanks for the laugh. Your sarcasm is mind blowing. You are a real jester. Keep those jokes coming, please!!! I can't get enough.

I think UR needs to change the name of its mascot. Spiders are fearless predators. Not very identifiable with this fan base. The butterflies!!! Weak and fragile. It's perfect. Can we start the movement? Who's with me? The Richmond Butterflies!!! Awesome.

Just remember there is an ignore feature. If we ignore it, it'll probably go away - back under its bridge

This thread and its contributors totally lack class and are vomit worthy. Sorry. OSC
I find that totally offensive!!! Why do you feel a need to personally attack posters? Has anyone personally attacked you? It's you who are the problem. You don't like something and you personally attack the individuals rather than give an argument to raise your point. Problem=you

Question - Are facts off limits if the facts don't present a version of a reality that does not exist?

Question - Are opinions off limits if the opinions don't come off as swallow the leader?

It would be much easier if you just lobbied Rivals to change your handle to ButterflyDad. Too much logo'd apparel out there with the Spider for your suggestion to be a real consideration.
