I don't disagree with you about his defense but putting the ball on the deck is useless if that's all you can do and our opponents know it.
It’s actually important when we face zone and need someone to get into the interior. We are woefully thin on this skill set.

My only problem with Francis is his size. We are already small enough.
Agreed, but he has to be better on defense than what we are throwing out there now. The kid averaged 17 for Wagner also.

Next year lines up as a perfect "Mooney can't figure out the rotation" year. Gustavson is a strong contender to be the guy that gets the short end of the stick.

I don’t see a problem with offense next year, but I also don’t see the defense getting any better either. At least Andre plays energetic defense and keeps his guy in front of him for the most part. Grant plays no defense and Wojick is always chasing his man to the basket.

They box out and get offensive put backs time and time again. Those killed us tonight!
You would think that our players would ask their coaches what the other teams are doing when a shot goes up and all their players stand between them and the basket and expand their arms. Or maybe they see some games on TV and are curious why they are not taught this wonderful part of the game called boxing out and rebounding.

CM Collapse commenced right on schedule at the 7:00 min mark tonight once we had our last 10 pt lead. These players simply cannot handle late game minutes, as shown by missed layups, pulling back even on fast breaks, giving up multiple offensive rebounds, and committing TOs.

At this point, why not do opposite last 5-7 min? Go full court press even with lead to try and not lose it and keep opponent off balance?

And just have no clue why these coaches don't see that they rebound somewhat better when playing man-to-man instead of that atrocious zone, which leads to mismatches, "parting of the red sea" in the paint and open 3 pt shooters.

Well, for me the torture of this season has ended, and I don't have to watch any more of it in person. They can kiss my ST money good bye unless there's a change.

Regarding end of games, it’s been the same issues for YEARS with no change in strategy. Clearly running clock and having our center chuck up a 3 as the shot clock winds down doesn’t work. It takes all the teams aggression away leading to more turnovers, poor rebounding on both ends, and blown leads. Compounding the problem, the team that is behind speeds up, gets more rebounds, possessions, and shots. 10 point leads vanish quickly. Again the most frustrating part is the lack of adjustments from CM. Does he not recognize the problem?

Watching Grady made me extremely jealous about there being a 6’5” 2 guard who could score from anywhere. Understand that he’s a special player, but how do we get one of those?

I don't know about the Steph Curry recruitment, but I will say I was dumbfounded when we didn't recruit Seth Curry? Idiotic. And don't tell me we did but Liberty beat us out.

Gotta hire a guy known for teaching D. D is the way to win in the NCAAs. Sure hope this gets done.

I've tried very hard to like Cayo's game and tried to understand why so many of you like him. All I have seen is a one deminsional 6'7" back-to-the-basket non shooting forward who is a terrible free throw shooter and looks lost when the lane is closed. His one jump shot tonight was a line drive from 8 feet that never got higher than the rim. I sure hope he gets a new coach next year that can fix his game so that maybe he can live up to his hype.

I think a case could be made that Cayo should be 3rd team A10 (if there is such a thing). He has the 9th highest shooting average in A10 conference games, is the 20th highest scoring player in the league and plays pretty good defense. He is a very good player.

It is a thing. Probably not going to happen.

You can make a case for most improved player, but MSS on VCU will probably get that.

I don't like criticizing our players, but I do agree with a lot of what you say. Nate brings some good things to the court, but with Grant being our main big, we need someone in Nate's spot to be more of an outside shooter and more versatile if he is not going to be a true post up guy down low. I certainly think he shows enough to be a big part of the rotation, but with the danger I am sounding like I did about Khwan and Buck, I don't think Nate is a 30 minute a game player.

oohmff, have to agree with 4700. Love how Nate turned it up this year and had some really really nice performances, but could use more size and/or shooting at this position. I do wish we could get that elusive grad transfer big man to put beside Grant, with Nate coming in as a first guy off the bench.

I know these type of grad transfers (think Bucknell's big man this year) are hard to come by. But Mooney has caused this to a big degree too. If we are VCU and consistently in the spotlight and getting to the NCAA's, we put ourselves in contention. Now, this type of guy is going to look p6 - or at a Wichita State or Nevada or other non p6 that has had recent success. I think a new coach with this roster can make a strong pitch to this type of player.

Mo - you make a great point. When Mooney has the BEST CLASS EVER it’s going to be hard to divvy up the minutes. I’m sure our AD will resize this and give him a raise and extension. Due to the challenge imposed by these great players it won’t be Mooney’s fault if they are below .500, he just needs 5 or 6 more years with this group to figure it out.

Alright, time to hibernate on basketball.

23, we don’t even need a big that scores. We have plenty of scorering potential. What we need is a rim protector. You would think that would be a little easier to get.

K, yes I agree that we could really use a 6'8 - 6'9 athletic type that like to play defense. We went after that in Kwesi, but that guy could not play defense at all. I remember watching one sequence in which three trips up the floor in a row he got faked, either left his feet or got turned around resulting in a lay up or foul. I think Oddo could have provided better rim protection. You would think there are some of these type of guys out there, but we can't seem to land them.

You could make a case, it is not a good one. He has developed into a nice A-10 starter, but no where some type of all A-10 player. Grant will probably be all A-10 3rd team, for a reference.
