Our current NET ranking is 249. Last in the A-10. In looking at the NET, among the P5 and then the American, Mountain West, A-10, we have the 5th worst NET among the Top 8 conferences in the country. Only Charlotte (who beat us handily), Tulsa, Fresno State, and Air Force are below us.

So, amongst our peer schools and conference, we are one of the Top 5 worst teams in the country.

And now look at our roster. We are losing our Top 2 players (Dusan and D-Lo) and another starter in Roche. As bad as we are this year, we have the potential to be even worse next year. I would ask the powers that be are they willing to give Mooney probably another 2-3 years to restore winning basketball to Richmond because that is what we are looking at.

Yep, and maybe someone can clue me in on NIL. I have not followed this "opt in" option. But it seems that any discussion around NIL and portal is basically unspoken. 80's Fan used to at least come on here and try to shame us into giving some big donations. If this is not rock bottom, it does seem like next year may coming in lower.
Even if we think we have studs in the redshirt's and next years frosh, with guys now coming back to make millions instead of taking their chances in pro hoops, the landscape of getting old and experience mattering is more weighted than any point ever IMO. So what does genius do - plays the longs game and "Get Young". Un freaking believable. And Hardt yawns. So yes, I agree 97, next season could really look worse. Losing begets losing, begets losing. As Sman points out, if guys are getting equal $NIL, then the deciding factor is still the usual factors. And I don't feel confident we will compete on $NIL anyway, so not sure what our pitch will be in the portal.

I don't know enough about the "opt in" concept or if it will even take effect next season.
but I do think this offseason will be one of the most interesting ones ever for the entire conference if it does.

no idea who each team will be able to retain or attract, including us. Reed Bailey for example. Davidson is probably the perfect fit. but what kind of NIL could a 20 ppg 6'10" kid attract?

Sure for other schools it could be. Outside of possibly Walz, I don't see any of our players attracting much attention. Maybe some of our guys transfer down in the hopes of playing for a team that has a chance of winning though.
