Coaching incompetence

This year things have gone badly. The last two years they hadn’t. But I’m far more depressed about those that
continue to be negative on this site.
What’re you talking about? Two years ago we had a losing season.

This is one of our many problems, fans are so conditioned to expect mediocre results that they forget entire losing seasons.

We won the tournament in 2022 and the conference last year. Isn’t that correct?

And Mooney lead them to the best single season record in the schools history. Isn’t
that correct?

Yeah, yeah, yeah, a blind squirrel and a broken clock. How do you explain away the consistency of the failures the rest of the seasons? How about the Providence game? Out coached? We had some really good players in his tenure and he was unable to coach them into the NCAA tournament. Any explanation for this consistency?

We were 15-18 and 7-11 in the A10 in the 2022-2023 season. We were swept by VCU that year.

And in the good year (after cutting down the nets) - got crushed in the last regular season game, got bounced from the a10 tournament in our first game as the 1 seed, and a 16 point loss in the NIT

Odd years (defined by Year in March) have not done well recently.
2019, 2021, 2023, 2025.

Even has done better. 2020, 2022, 2024.

No, that’s not correct.

2021-2022 - NCAA tournament
2022-2023 - 15-18 losing season
2023-2024 - 23-10 conference season champs
2024-2025 - 10-18 losing season

You are going back three years, not two.

Tbone you just proved what I said. The tournament was in 2022.

For the rest of you, if CM is fired, I won’t lose any sleep. If he’s not fired
only you all will lose sleep trying to figure out “how can this be?”

Let it play out before you post your remarks.

Tbone just proved that the last two seasons ended in March 2022 and March 2024?
Is he a quantum scientist?

Using end of season as the year, with a modest goal of 20 wins in 32.25 games by May 1. That would be a winning percentage of .620.
The 3 Mooney eras that I see are (D1 only):

2006 .433
2007 .267
2008 .516
2009 .556
2010 .743
2011 .784

2012 .500
2013 .559
2014 .576
2015 .600
2016 .500
2017 .629
2018 .375

2019 .394
2020 .774
2021 .591
2022 .649
2023 .455
2024 .697
2025 .308

And I keep reading the title of this thread wrong.
As if someone is coaching the topic of incompetence…

Annap, it’s ok to simply admit you didn’t have your facts right. Your statement was “This year things have gone badly. The last two years they hadn’t.” I provided a season by season accounting that we had one decent year and one really poor year in the last two years. The tournament season in 2022 was a season/year before that.

Are you denying that there was an entire losing season in that two year timeframe? If so, I can’t help you and you might want to seek advice from your local neurologist.

If someone is trying to rationalize something (example - the success of CM’s program), they are going to find a way to slice and dice or justify. It would be easier to admit that you’re with Moon come high or hell water. That’s the bottom line. The tenure at UR is truly mediocrity, and there enough stats and facts that it’s hard to dispute that. But no doubt, if you’re an enabler you probably always will be. Capitulation is a hard thing to overcome just as 55 pct - the long term ceiling.
