Clemson Game

Clemson has 4 guys who average double figures per game. A fifth averages 9.9 ppg. Their top five average about 48% from the field. Four of their top 5 have been playing for Clemson for at least 3 years. This is a good, deep and experienced team.
I thought we were a "good, deep, experienced, team".

Burton - plenty of experience, and possible NBA draft pick.
Goose - been a key part of the team since he arrived. Was playing nearly 30 minutes a game when returned from injury last year.
Grace - Big Shot Grace of MFG. Enough Said.
Quinn - 2nd team all Patriot League, and played in every game for Lafayatte his 3 season there.
Roche - played 36 minutes a game for Citadel last year and shot 40% from 3 point land.
Bigelow - PLayed two years at Wofford, suffered injury and redshirted another 2 years. Lots of game time and practice time for him at the college level.
Nelson - practiced for an entire year behind Gilyard. Thats gotta count for something right?

I think he was just commenting on Clemson, not on what we do or don't have.
Agree - but saying Clemson is good, deep, and experienced - I think we have made the same arguments on this board about the Spiders. I think we are good and experienced. I am not so sure about deep cause I think when it gets down to a tough game - we got 7 guys. You can survive and win with 7 guys, but I don't think you characterize a 7 man rotation as deep. But that is just my opinion.

This is a game I expect us to win. I think we are playing better than Clemson right now, so they are looking to right the ship a little, but it will be a tough game. If we can get out to a good start like past 2 games, I like our chances. If we fall behind 20 like other games, it will be tough to battle back. Keep the game close in the first half, and pull away in the 2nd.

We have 3 guys who average more than 10 points per game. They are playing with greater team chemistry. This will be a tough game for us.

It won’t work with only an ESPN+ subscription, unless they make a change to simulcast it there.

It shows up in the ESPN+ listings, but it’s an ACCNX game that requires a linked TV package with ACC Network. If you try to view it in ESPN+ it will make you log in to your cable/satellite/streaming provider to check for authorization.
Signed up for YouTube TV free trial - probably my 6th free trial or so!

Found the game listed, but it says unavailable.

Got it. Forgot that you have to go to espn app and sign into your YouTube TV acct from there to get ACCNX (different than ACCN, which is available directly on YouTube TV) Whew!

Frankly, if I have to stand on my head technically to see the game on TV/streaming, I'll save time by just listening to Bob Black instead and watching the highlights the next day.

This team can do this. Go Spiders!

No excuse for not winning this one.
Well, except that we are a playing a good team with good players who will be trying to win as badly as us. Can we win? Of course. But, I can't sit here and say we are way better than them and there is no reason for us not to win.

They're an average team that's playing really badly recently. We seem to be playing much better now and had we won even two of the four games we have away, we'd be probably 30 spots higher in the NET. It's a game we absolutely should win.

Opponent: Clemson (8-3) --> Preseason 11th in ACC

"Brad Brownell’s seat is hot, but the longtime Tigers coach has been here before and found a way out of it. Can he get Clemson back into the postseason mix this year and extend his tenure? He has a centerpiece up front in
PJ Hall, provided that the 6'10" junior is healthy after a knee injury ate up most of his offseason. The bigger question is at point guard, where Brownell bucked the portal and instead is relying on some combination of freshmen Dillon Hunter and Josh Beadle and veterans Alex Hemenway and Chase Hunter. “Point guard by committee” is always a scary thing to bet on.

Key Results:
  • Penn State - W: 101-94
  • Wake Forest - W: 77-57
  • Loyola (IL) - L: 58-76 --> A-10 Opponent
  • Iowa - L: 71-74
Team Stats:
  • Points Per Game: 74.6 (146th)
  • Points Allowed Per Game: 67.4 (141st)
  • 2 PT Shooting: 532.3% (145th)
  • 3 PT Shooting: 39.6% (28th)
  • FT Shooting: 76.5% (32nd)
Key Player:

Hunter Tyson

  • Rebounds per game: 9.1 (T-38th in Country)
  • 3-Point Percentage: 42.9%
  • Free Throw Percentage 86% (Highest on team)
  • Steals: 14 (Highest on team)
Tyson is a surprise contributor for Clemson and their top RPIM scorer. While Hall demands attention inside the arc and Hemenway and Hunter demand attention outside the arc, Tyson demands attention across the entire court. Tyson is a beast on the boards, all while having the most steals on the team, and has strong shooting numbers inside and outside the arc, as well as being the best on the team at the line. I think if we can control Tyson, we can have this one. Clemson isn't a great team, and they are even worse than us on the offensive boards, which is hard to find these days. Question is, will they be the team that beat Penn State or got destroyed by Loyola, our new A-10 opponents. If the latter, we can get one last solid likely Q2 win before A-10 play!

They couldn’t even beat Iowa, something we’ve done recently with ease.

Spiders: 74
Clemson: 62
The state of Iowa has been good to the Spiders. UNI, Drake, Iowa are a combined 2-6 vs Mooney.

Add to the fact that 2008 Northern Iowa is one of the more memorable football games in school history that led to our lone national title, a wonder why we don't schedule more games against teams from that state.

For ESPN subscription (not sure but may require your TV provider has the ACC network). Go to espn.com/watch, click on Browse, scroll down to Channel, select ACCNX, scroll up to games, select game, a list of TV providers will appear, select your provider and log on. Should be good to watch.

See the link from post #31. Doesn't that take you directly to the same endpoint of what you're saying above? Maybe I'm missing something?

I don’t know, unable to test. Able to watch the GT game on ACCNX, so know the path I posted works.

Really badly recently, as in one game? Where they shot 3-21 from 3 (they are 39.6% from 3 for the year), and Loyola shot 12-24 from 3 (they are 33.5% from 3 this year). In a 31 game schedule, games like that will happen. It's one game. Their 5 games before that game, they beat Towson, Wake, Penn St., and Cal, and lost to Iowa by 3. I'm glad you think our program 10 games removed from losing Jacob, Grant, Nate, and Nick is at a place where we absolutely should beat a team like Clemson. If true, that would be pretty amazing.

Towson? And Cal is 0-11,so...

4700, it appears you got this right. We appear to be over matched. More turnovers than points so far.

why are we just shooting threes and not taking inside. That is how we get behind so bad

Terrible start

Mooney doesn’t know how to call a timeout when it matters. Let’s wait to save that time out when are down 30 but can draw up a play with 30 seconds to go in half.

Looking like same scoring scenario we had over powerhouse FDU only reversed. We sure revisit this early game deficit thing.
