Chase Johnson - 2017 Offer

CoyWqHkW8AATyY4.jpg

thought this should be on here, with our logo prominently displayed in the prime top left corner position! I'm ruling UVA and TCU out based on logo placement, lol.
nice list. kid's had a summer.

I believe we were early on with Chase, I recall hearing about him at least 2 years ago. Don't forget his AAU Coach may have some influence and his son Bryce will be a Spider.

per twitter, visiting Florida this weekend and set up a visit to WVU.
also scheduled to visit Tennessee 10/15, but the Vols have 2 top targets visiting this weekend and one next for their 2 spots. the message board faithful think they'll close, and that would cancel Chase's visit.

Are those all officials? Guessing WVU is unofficial since it's close, maybe UT as well.

Has he been to UR at any point? I don't think so but can't recall...

I don't know what these kids want now days, but why would you choose Morgantown over
Richmond. Oh well- he's got a pretty good list to work from. If he watched TJ he could see
himself.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Morgantown's a great college town, and the Mountaineers are THE sports identity for the entire state.

Seeing the competition, we are a long shot! Remember our sales team would have trouble selling ice cream on a 100 degree day!

I will be pleasantly and completely shocked if we land Chase. Mooney has never landed a kid this heavily recruited

If my memory serves me well, no UR basketball coach has landed a player as highly recruited as Chase. To be honest, I am surprised we are involved to this point.

Quite honestly, the chances are slim that we will sign any of the noted recruits that we are pursuing.
I believe that our recruiting season for 2017 is over unless we find someone little known and hardly recruited.
I am hoping that we just proceed to 2018 and find some contributors for the class with Bryce Golden, should we land him, or three players close to the talent level of the three we signed for this year and have commitments from for 2017.

I think we definitely add a big forward in this class. our chances may be better with JP. if neither, we'll still find one that can help. a name we haven't heard yet could pop up out of nowhere like TA did when he verballed.

Having been in sales for 40+ years there is an old adage that applies here- "Throw enough shit at the
wall, some of it is bound to stick. "
We're not going to get top recruits by not recruiting top recruits.

Never been in sales, but nothing we threw at the below-listed recruits stuck. Haven't given up hope...just trying to be realistic.
Maybe we are throwing the wrong stuff or not throwing it in the right manner. It seems to me that unless we get an early commit, the odds of us landing a recruit that we really want are about 4% at best.
I am hoping that I am wrong, but I'm sticking with what I said: Recruiting for the Class of 2017 recruiting is over.

not sure what you're getting at with that list. we obviously weren't trying to land 27 players. we did land 3 strong ones in Godwin, Schneider and Gilyard.
I don't think we go into next year with 11, even if it helps the balance. we'll add one more.

Agreed if you don't go after the best, you will never know if you are capable of getting the best. At some point the odds start moving in your favor. If we can accept the probability of getting a highly recruited player being low, then we won't get so disappointed when reality hits. But you got to take that chance and yes I am in sales also, and it sure feels good when you hit the big one after trying for years.

Remember in sales, not all your "suspects" become "prospects". If you sell widgets, and someone wants to buy them, but you find out they don't pay their bills, you cross them off your list. Kind of like, you like player X and he likes you, but once you figure out his "credit" isn't worthy, you move on.

Why in the world would we stop recruiting for 2017? It's freakin September. Way too much time left to go idle...

even the power teams only have so many slots -- sometimes kids hang on hoping for a P6 team to come looking only to be left at the alter, they could be a steal for us at that point, a steal with a HUGE chip on his shoulder

The only way we don't add a big in this class is if Mooney strikes out on every single one. And even if that happens, he will still sign a Kovien D. Type player in the spring. And that player than will be roundly hailed in here as a diamond in the rough, only to transfer the next year after playing a total of 3 minutes.

You never know. Could get a tall gangly guy, a real project like Justin Harper. OSC

Did I miss something? Aren't we still in the game on Moorman?

If we do miss on everyone this fall, what are the chances of a Kwesi A. Instead of a Kovien D. In the spring?

Temple's putting on the full court press for JP...

And now, I've hijacked Chase's thread with JP news, defeating my own organization system...

I agree. Many teams don't have a single recruit yet, most players haven't committed yet (which is why we are currently ranked as 39th best recruiting class at 247 sports.). We have tons of time to pick up some good players. I hope we can get a quality big.

Am really hoping that our coaches, who can now totally focus on landing one BIG this fall, will find one who can help immediately, or at least one with strong potential.

If our guy is not great offensively, we can always use a rim-protector who can develop his offensive game over time... Let's get it done this fall though. The spring is a really lousy time to go fishing for recruits, and the odds of getting a good one go down significantly if we don't get it done soon.
