CAA

Good teams win the close ones.
The Fighting Christians are winning now without RB Summers who torched us for somewhere around 200-300 yards in CAA opener loss...he was lost for the season a few games back...

Go Spiders!

a few years ago on their board, many were ready for him to go. he appears very old now, not very impressive at all but they need to keep him for a while longer, not sure why but they do.

Lol just saw UNH in UD out. Rocco’s having flashbacks to 2012. I hope UR is the only place he ever coaches a playoff game.

AP and UD were the first two out. UNH sneaks in to keep their playoff streak alive at 14.

Boy is Rocco miffed at not making the playoffs. An "injustice" says Rocco. "My" program didn't get the respect it deserved. I'm sending the Villanova football team a Christmas basket of fried chicken. God I love this.

Maybe don’t lose to Towson and Villanova next time? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The Towson letdown after they beat us did not surprise me that much. The performance yesterday against a dead Villanova team was pretty shocking.

I do think they had a beef that they belonged in over UNH. Sort of a testimony that the playoffs include too many teams tbough.

Given what happened here in 2012 and Delaware this year, I'm thinking there's people that just don't like Rocco other than me.

He also never made the playoffs at Liberty despite having some good teams.

I wonder if we would have gotten in at 7-4, if our plus win was UD? That would mean our 4 losses were all to playoff teams.

I believe we would have been in at 7-4, no matter who was the extra win, because of our SOS.

Surprising to see we are ahead of #7 seed Wofford in Massey.

UNH gets lots of credit for the Georgia Southern win. UD’s best win at the end of the season was Stony Brook.

1-9 ga southern is about 20 spots below Stony in Sagarin.

According to Sagarin, we were #2 in the caa, btw.

So I briefly chatted with our President last night, and one thing I found interesting is that UR is looking into the possibility that sometime in the future we might not be in the CAA. I gathered the consensus there is that JMU will eventually find a way to move up to FBS, and UR will work with VU and especially W&M on whatever our future might be. But I am not sure a steady diet of Stony Brook, Albany, NH, Towson and URI is what our future will include. I have a feeling that UD is also looking to jump with JMU if they can. A CAA without UD and JMU might not be so appealing to Richmond.

Amazed that Prez appears well versed in potential future FBall conference affiliation.Your scenario makes a ton of sense.Add some Patriot and SoCon schools and it sounds like a new conference.

Would the SoCon care if some of their better football schools bolt to form a new conference? Some conferences say you must play all of your sports in that conference if they sponsor that sport. Would this be an all sport conference? Seems a bit tricky.

Interesting.

Did you ask him when Mooney was going to be fired?

Move back to A10 and add Fordham(A10) to football.Nova and Tribe would be associates.Maybe UMass(A10)gives up FBS independent status back to FCS.

Would Dayton and Duquesne step up their commitment?

Gruden(Flyer alum) would have to endow the Dayton program for it to happen. He throws nickels around like manhole covers. Its a PTL conference team-no scholarships.Duquesne,in NEC,would nearly double its scholarships.Maybe Heinz could throw some ketsup revenue their way along with the Rooney’s.
Monmouth football would move to the A10 as associate status in a heartbeat.

Top tier FCS and low tier FBS schools will be the same division in the not so distant future. The power 5 conferences don’t want to keep sharing football revenue with low level FBS. I could see some compromise in number of scholarships and this new division negotiating its own TV deals and being totally separate from the power 5. I also think this could be highly appealing to schools currently in low level FBS. Take C-USA for example. Schools like Marshall or ODU are currently spending a fortune in travel going to Texas all the time and have a terrible TV deal that produces very little money. The numbers don’t work. Since most all of college football is regional, I think TV money would improve because people like watching schools play other schools that are regional rivals. Also, the money spent on travel for non revenue sports would decrease dramatically because schools would be paying for bus trips, not plane flights.

The mid-majors like the AAC can't win either way. The entire campaign around the CFP was that "all 130 teams can get in." Well, UCF is ranked 14. In the old BCS system they'd be ranked higher. They could win a New Years' Six bowl against the CFP #5 (who the talking heads will spend hours arguing should have been in) and still nobody will admit they deserved a shot. If you are outside the P5, there is literally nothing you can do to compete for a NC. To quote George Carlin, "It's a big club, and you ain't in it."

Stepping "down" to FCS isn't the answer for them, either. I could easily see three subdivisions in D1 football in the not too distant future.

He was a master, it's a shame he's no longer with us (or as he would say dead). It doesn't seem like nearly 10 years. I can only imagine what he would have to say about some of our current events.
