Mooney was correct when he said that this senior class was the best ever. If Sherod hadn’t missed the season, I believe we would be winning games by larger margins and be ranked in the AP top 15. His loss is also partially responsible for us giving up large leads in the 2nd half, because our bench has been depleted with his absence. Not only did our starters play a high volume of minutes in our last game, but it was compounded by the intensity of play. We are bringing the ball up on offense much quickly than we did a decade ago and are also playing more full court defense. This type of play needs more participation from the bench.

The issue we have is not the quality of the players on the bench, because I think everyone on the bench has the potential be a good A10 player. The issue is a combination of our starting 5 are all extremely talented “all conference quality players” and the lack of experience of our 3 freshman and Crabtree with playing with this team. Our bench is going to get much stronger through the season as these players get more experience in practice and playing time as we enter A10 conference play. Crabtree is a terrific player and it will not be very long until he is a major contributor to this team.

Gus is playing terrific and I think Sal and Matt are going a good job backing up Grant. Sal has the potential of being a quality starter someday.
