Providence is a good team. That’s what good coaching looks like.
You mean the guys who are on the bench and didn’t play all year? Not sure it’s fuel for them.Hope the guys coming back use this as fuel. We got a taste. This is what good teams look like. No reason we can’t achieve this if we commit to it.
UVA versus UMBC redo, stuff happens.Providence is a good team. That’s what good coaching looks like.
Everybody on this team should have seen the floor today. Down 30 most of the way, it was OVER. I would have liked to see subbing start no later than 7-minutes to go. In my opinion, it is unconscionable to deny that experience to all the players in this situation. Don't put a player in the last 30-seconds as Providence runs out the clock and think you did something noble. If nothing else, would like to see the senior walk ons and Sal get a minute
How sweet it is. The future is bright.1-22 from 3. 8-21 free throws. Out rebounded 38-27. Absolutely NO DEFENSE.
MOONEY IS BACK!!!
Our 3 point defense brought the best out of a lot of teams this year. It should be an emphasis for improvement in the off season. They went 12-22 from 3.
Be careful or Mo is going to threaten you again.Embarrassing Exit. Total meltdown.

It is not embarrassing. We went further in the NCAA than any other A10 team or team based in VA. I am very proud of these guys. Sometimes it is not your night and unfortunately that applied to us today. We could make shots including free flows and they made everything.Embarrassing Exit. Total meltdown.

And how many were uncontested? This is one of the fundamentals that is not in our tool box - guarding 3 point shooters. They went 12-22 from 3.
So how did Iowa go 6-for-29 from deep? How did Davidson go 9-for-27? How did Dayton go 5-for-20? How did VCU go 8-for-22? How did Rhode Island go 2-for-17?And how many were uncontested? This is one of the fundamentals that is not in our tool box - guarding 3 point shooters.
Nah, he knows I am right.Be careful or Mo is going to threaten you again.
They missed? So how did Iowa go 6-for-29 from deep? How did Davidson go 9-for-27? How did Dayton go 5-for-20? How did VCU go 8-for-22? How did Rhode Island go 2-for-17?
That's a combined 30-for-115 (26%) from deep. The facts clearly do not support your argument.
The problem with your post is that your standards are beyond what those in charge expect. I applaud your standards and believe our expectations should be at a higher level than the last 11 or 17 years. There are too many people that will rationalize with a bucketful of reasons and stats to explain how great our success has been on the one hand, and provide the complexities on the other hand.Look. I’m happy with a win in the NCAA tournament. I’m not happy that it’s 1 win in the last decade. 3 wins in 17 years - when we’ve paid Mooney ~$25M in that time frame. We’re paying for premium results.
we should expect this every 3 to 4 years. Get there. Win a game or two. If we’re not going to have that as our expectations…pay the coach less.
Mooney must have said 25 times in the last week how hard it is to get to the Dance. The problem with your post is that your standards are beyond what those in charge expect. Number one talking point.Mooney must have said 25 times in the last week how hard it is to get to the Dance.
IF Burton returns.I was thinking someone like Burton, Grace, Wilson, etc.
So, we won the last five games because we were "player driven."
We lose today, those players who supposedly had everything to do with us winning those games go 1-22 and 8-21, but it's totally on the coach.
Ho-kay. Tough to argue with that logic.
About 260 Division I teams didn't make it. So maybe he's right?Mooney must have said 25 times in the last week how hard it is to get to the Dance.
I would say harder for some versus some others. It's not a completely level playing field.About 260 Division I teams didn't make it. So maybe he's right?
Look at the entire season. Please don't tell us that we guard 3 point shooters. Can you honestly say that the 3 point Providence shooters tonight had UR hands up in their face, or in more cases than not there was a Spider within 3 feet when they shot. Providence took what they were given & buried us with 3's. That's the fact.So how did Iowa go 6-for-29 from deep? How did Davidson go 9-for-27? How did Dayton go 5-for-20? How did VCU go 8-for-22? Very good post.As a former Spider football player, I’ve been watching the boards for a long time for multiple sports. Hoops, football and occasionally some of the others. Just so everyone knows, we all know that they exist and read them.
How fast everyone is to criticize players and coaches absolutely baffles me. Don’t get me wrong, I believe the passion and “support” is well intentioned. However, as a bunch of fans and alumni just sitting here on a message board shooting the sh*t, who the hell are we to criticize members of a team who give all that they have 365 days a year when we don’t even know what goes on behind closed doors. These coaches (and their families) dedicate their whole life to helping bring young men success on the field or court and more importantly off of it, in the classroom and community. Winning is obviously a critical point of success when measuring the success of these coaches but far more important is their ability to develop and influence young men to become better people and help make positive impacts in society and their communities. I strongly believe that every coach at the University of Richmond does just that.
For the players, trying to represent a prestigious University with the pressures of winning, school, social life, etc. has to be incredibly challenging. I personally believe that Richmond has the best of the best at handling these pressures. Why are we criticizing them? We have no idea what goes on behind the scenes. Let’s stop acting like these people are our entertainment and appreciate their successes on the field, court and representing the University of Richmond.
What makes you believe we have the “best of the best” coaches? Most schools in this country have coaches that are trying to mold their players into better men. It’s a little easier to focus on that when you have a long term contract and financial security. Mooney has had that for over a decade. As a former Spider football player, I’ve been watching the boards for a long time for multiple sports. Hoops, football and occasionally some of the others. Plan in the first half was to double the post and force them to make 3's. Providence has not shot 3's all season like they did today. Hell, they didn't make that many 3's in warm ups.Look at the entire season. Please don't tell us that we guard 3 point shooters. Not exactly sure where I said “best of the best coaches”… really confused how you came to that quote? The best of the best are the likes of Nick Saban and Bill Self. What makes you believe we have the “best of the best” coaches?
