Beat Dayton

3pt defense loses another one for us:

FT:
Dayton: 18-28 (64%)
Richmond: 20-27 (74%)

2FG:
Dayton: 20-35 (57%)
Richmond: 26-40 (65%)

3FG:
Dayton: 9-15 (60%)
Richmond: 4-17 (24%)

When you let teams shoot 60% from 3 you are just not going to win many games. We took and made more shots than Dayton, we made more free throws than Dayton, we just can't defend the 3 this year and it has cost us many, many games.
4-17 is really pathetic. Wood was really bad shooting tonight.

Fan2011, we just don't hold our hands up on the perimeter. Our players crouch down to get the block. So stupid!!! Mooney was pleading with them to raise their hands on defense.
DT is the most frustrating when he over plays on D. The littlest fake and he is off his feet or jumping past his man to stwal a passcthat never comesz

It was a stupid play, but Fore was hammered.

Yep, the reason he missed and fell was because he was hammered across the arm. It was clear as day live and on the replay they showed. Then Dayton ran with it before inbounding which is against the rules and should have turned the ball back over to us. Two really bad missed calls in a row that really put a nail in our coffin.

True, when is a contested dunk like that ever a no call? Never!

He tries to block everything instead of playing solid defense. I assume he is un-teachable.

As usual the Seniors faded away at the end of the game when it mattered. Glad I don't have to watch it anymore this year. It's been very painful. I had the only damn Dayton fan in the building sitting right near me to boot.

Hey missed foul shots, couple close in shots missed, poor 3 pt shooting, but we played
so hard and with heart. I wish we had more offensive weapons and we need all our recruits to be
scorers. Good job Spiders, tough loss.

Our poor ft shooting down the stretch was a killer as was Dayton's excellent ft shooting during that same stretch.

I don't understand the end of the game you're down 6 with 20 seconds left, you can't take twos, then foul they hit two and you come down and take another two. Sadly you need a couple of threes, another 2 still leaves you 4 back???

I think some of the calls make it appear the conference wants Dayton to improve their seed in the NCAA tourney. Some were just ridicules. Fore was clobbered on the dunk, SDJ got a foul and didn't touch the guy as the video showed and others

Not blaming it on the refs, but some really bad calls. The foul on TJ in the first half when a Dayton player ran into another on a drive was horrible.

That was a foul...TJ pushed the player in the back.

But yes, the non-calls on the Kwhan dunk and the running the baseline were bad.

But CM seems to think he is a great defender. Huh?
It is very tough to beat a team of five or six scorers when you only have three guys who are willing to be aggressive on offense. It seems like Fore has become a bit tentative on going to the basket(although he may have been too aggressive when he went in for that dunk that he missed). Yes Davis and Taylor did actually manage to score but they too often pass up open shots that offensive players like Dayton has will take nine out of ten times. You can talk about stats all you want to (and I'm sure the stat man will bring up a host of stats which show how well Davis and Taylor played). Unfortunately I don't believe there are any stats which chart how many open shots are passed up and thus how much added pressure is put on the three guys who do the vast amount of scoring.
TJ Cline was an absolute man among boys tonight. Luckily Dayton didn't have any big men big enough or good enough to stop him. Terry and Shawn'dre played really hard. It is also too bad that Wood just hasn't developed into a reliable scorer. Maybe next year.
Dayton had seventeen guys in the program fifteen guys were underclassmen and only Pierre is a starter. I'm not a fan of coaches standing on the court most of the game (although Mooney does too much of that too). You have to give Miller credit for having his team as poised as they were coming off a three out of four loss stretch and being down eleven with eleven minutes to go. I don't think Dayton played a tremendous game but they played very well and shot three pointers and a bunch of foul shots late extremely well.
It is somewhat ironic that we have actually played the top four team in the conference fairly close while losing by greater margins to some of the weaker teams. Maybe we can get on a roll in Brooklyn.

No doubt we were out coached again. Mooney taking no timeouts when we all felt it slipping away. You would think someone might guard Smoochie after 18 or 20 points. No 3's at the end was the dumbest thing of the night. Hell everyone makes them against us!!!

When the 3-point shooting for our team is 24%, it cost us. I know we are supposed to be very efficient offensively considering the statistics presented, but it doesn't look that way at the game, especially when a score is critical or when we lose the lead. What I observe is that we can make the shots when we get on a roll, but when it becomes crunch time, we crumble.

It know that there were several 3s by Dayton that were wide open and should have been defended better, but it also seems that most of the other teams who have beaten us have better 3-point players than we do. I just don't think we have enough talented 3-point shooters, especially at crunch time. And they are the players we are supposed to be recruiting.

Granted, some nights our players are very hot from 3-point range, but more often than not, they seem to me to be, at best, below the ability of the players on the opposing team.

Teams that are equipped to do so can push out on us and defend us beyond the arc tightly because by the time we get the ball inside to Allen or Cline, the defense often is able to recover. Granted, we've had a few games (like tonight) where one of those guys has just gotten free and to the hole consistently, but for the most part they are the only two interior scoring threats we have. So defenses know that if they take away our open looks from deep, they probably beat us.

FWIW, it offends me when those of you who do so, name a player and describe his inadequacies in a derogative manner as is evident not only from some posts on this thread, but pervades many of the other threads. It is personal..ad hominem...callous and undeserved, and I feel for the kid who is the object of such criticism.

For Christ's sake, this was their senior night and they are great kids doing the best that they can, given the circumstances. Criticise the coach for recruiting them, for not recognizing and adjusting to their strengths, but leave them alone.

Why name them as inept or lousy on a public message board? It's just damn insensitive and mean-spirited to do so, and I am certain that this type of criticism gets back to them. If you must do so, pay the minimal price of admission and, if you must, post such criticism on the premium board.

How do you think it makes them feel? Or don't you?

97 TV replay was clear to show that the player had a little help from TJ with a little nudge
in the back. It was the right call and TJ almost got away with it.

What about my pain and suffering the last 4 years. Do they care?? Lol

Oh look! It's ole Vinegar and Water himself.

Isn't Vinegar and Water a weight loss diet? Or is it a salad dressing often used by Italians?
You must be operating a level or two above me K. I just can't figure out your insults.

iSpid think the Vinegar and Water he speaks of could be an old world douche.

I am sure that you are correct, and I didn't know that.
These days a combination of vinegar and water is also often used to clean a douche bag. I knew that when I responded to K. I was just trying to jerk his chain, but he saw right through me.

But thanks for your sincere and polite response. Haven't seen many of those on this board lately.

no you can't because they have been horrible all year - to everybody.
You have to just push through their calls.
