2025 MLAX Schedule

With 4 all American caliber players returning next year and championship weekend being played in Charlottesville, next year has the potential to be very special. Hope we go all in this year. To me, that means going after Henry Doge the FOGO out of Vermont. Give him a full scholarship and NIL. He will get immediate playing time on a top 10 team with national championship aspirations. If we can land him, another impact transfer or two, and have good goalie play next year, we could be in for a very special season.

Cornell looking to hold on, up 11–9 with 1:20 left and possession. Kirst has been held scoreless.

Big Red looked to be in control with a strong third quarter and were up 10–6 heading to the fourth, but PSU ripped off three straight to put the pressure on.

Maryland is embarrassing ’Cuse, up 10–2 early in the second half.

Edit: I jinxed the Terps…three quick ones from the Orange and it’s 10–5. Signs of life.

Three of our four losses were to teams playing in the national championship game...not too shabby!

And to top off a good lax viewing day, my hometown Buffalo Bandits just won their third straight and record seventh overall NLL championship in front of a sold-out 19,000 home crowd.

Definitely pull for teams that are willing to play us ............................so now there are two left .........................

Also, sorry if this has been discussed and I missed it, but I see that WE were selected to host a quarterfinal NCAA tournament weekend in 2028, along with Hofstra. Pretty awesome! Does that mean if we make it that far we automatically play at home or that we have to play at Hofstra?

Notre Dame played at home as a 6-seed in a quarterfinal back in 2021. Lost to 3-seed Maryland in OT. As the lower seed, Notre Dame was considered the visiting team on their own field.

I don't know if that means we'd automatically be at home if we made it that far or if there simply isn't a rule against it and that's just the way it worked out for ND.

Given how greedy or cheap or both that the NCAA is you'd think they would keep participants at home when they could.

Agreed, I think the cost savings of keeping us at home (plus drawing a home crowd) would outweigh any fairness concerns in the NCAA’s eyes.

Pretty even game so far, Cornell up 6–5 at the half. Cornell keeps going up by a goal or two and then Maryland creeps back, no real runs so far for anybody to get separation. Kirst is getting some shots, but only one goal so far.

Everything going through Kirst in the second half for Cornell, up to five goals for him now, all unassisted. Cornell continues to stay just a step ahead...up 11–9 with 6:30 to play.

Edit: Maryland now making unforced turnovers preventing them from even setting up their offense. And now it's 12–9 following a Goldstein goal. 4 minutes to go.

Edit 2: Maryland gets one back, but then has to go empty net to pressure Cornell and Kirst puts one home on the open goal with 50 seconds left to tie the D-I record with his 82nd of the season.

Edit 3: And there it is, 13–10 victory for the Big Red. Think that's a solid outcome for the Spiders when it comes to final polls.

Definitely a plus for the Spiders that we gave Cornell their two toughest games of the year apart from their loss to Penn State.

Seeing Cornell celebrate winning for the first time in 48 years made me think, man I just want to see Richmond win a NCAA championship (in any sport) at least once in my lifetime. I wasn’t a Richmond fan in 2008 so I didn’t experience that moment live.

But alas, reliving that moment watching these highlights is the best I can do right now.

I was there and stated I could now die a happy Spider but no, I'm greedy, I want a LAX trophy to go with the football trophy.

Spiders have to be one of the smallest schools to ever win an NCAA D1 team national championship. From my research:

Holy Cross and La Salle are smaller (both in basketball). Wyoming won the 1943 NCAA basketball championship with an enrollment of 1500 at the time. Now their undergrad enrollment is ~10K.

College sports had their first major change in modern time with the advent of 1A ana 1AA. It continues to favor the big players.

I consider our football national championship as D1 even if it’s not the highest level technically. It’s the official NCAA sponsored national championship as FBS National championship isn't recognized by NCAA. So as far as I’m concerned, Richmond has a legitimate division 1 national championship.

Feel like we should be a few spots higher considering how close we played Cornell twice and no bad losses, but it's about the overall résumé and we just didn't have enough top wins...just Georgetown and UNC. All of the other elite teams beat each other up a bit and got some better wins while the losses didn't hurt them much.

It's hard to be disappointed with a 7/8 final national ranking. I think a lot of why we weren't ranked higher was strength of schedule - also probably why UNC got the home game and we didn't. Our SOS was a real outlier compared to teams ranked higher.

Sounds like basketball and all other sports.

Agreed. The media want unfettered future access to the blue bloods.Offending the blue bloods is a no-no.That’s how they make a living, not through an upstart like UR.
