Atlantic 10 recruiting update

Another post, another jab at our players? Are you sure you are a Spider fan? This is where you respond and say you never say anything bad about our players. Okay. Whatever.

I'm willing to throw the blame on the coach and not the players but whatever we are doing now isn't working.
OK, I don't think it's absurd to state that new recruits coming in aren't impressed when their potential teammates do 90% of the final sales job recruiting. Why would they work so hard to sell the young guys other than they like it and want good guys to come.

The only thing CM has to work with is trying to create a comfortable place to land for recruits. He has no other draw currently. Hopefully with the next guy this will change.

He's not done it. Anyone here that wants to tell me that he's a great recruiter? Where are the 3 stars? He's not done it and the chances he's going to start anytime soon are slim...yet still he gets another year year after year.

I talk basketball and A10 basketball in particular because I'm a huge fan of it. Not a troll.

Flame me, but the guy is a nothing-burger and has resided over the program's slow decline and it absolutely baffles me as to why he's been allowed to continue. I'm saying nothing that's absurd or that dozens of threads here have not said already...
The players seem to be among Mooney's biggest supporters. You can dump on Mooney for a lot of things but I think he has good relationships with his guys. You put a bunch of 18 to 22 year olds who all have a love of the game together for months on end and a family dynamic develops most places.

Richmond's problem isn't "homeyness" or the lack of a brotherhood among the players - it's poor coaching along with recruiting guys who would largely be better suited in the patriot or ivy league.

Unreal. What baffles me is how you, a VCU guy, are allowed to come on here and talk so much garbage about our program. I guess anything goes if you are from another school? Makes no sense. Worry about your own school. Since your final four and our sweet 16 year, VCU has not exactly set the world on fire in the dance. And, funny that you talk about recruiting, as if your school would never accept anyone that we wouldn't.

Agree with you on that. Haven't been here for a while but I certainly don't come into your house and talk trash about you. I will say though that I know of at least one example where we could not get a player in and he then played for UR for 4 years. It was before the NCAA Proclamations and Guidelines changed. Wouldn't happen now. Heh, I think UR will be way stronger than those early preseason polls. Either way, we know the games will be a battle.

Cormac Ryan, highly rated Stanford frosh out of NYC who just announced transferring. Saw where Davidson was one of first schools making an offer. Hope CM at least makes a call cause we know who will. I can see Bob Mc on the phone asking the kid if he watches many Warrior games. You know that guy Curry played for me. Ouch!

Did Martelli have him signed and he decommitted in March? My point was that if Martelli had the inside track so strongly he'd have been signed long before March. He signed exactly 5 months before he'll play his first D1 game. Why not during the signing period for 2019's the year before or a rising Sr? Please tell me how I don't have a valid point here.
You said that there was no way he was going to commit to St Joe's. When Martelli was fired a friend from SJU told me, I guess there goes some of our players and Bones. All that being said, he did not sign before Coach Martelli was fired. I just read the recent R-TD article and it states that Coach Rhoades and his staff have recruited him since they arrived at VCU in 2017. It is quite a feat getting the 76th ranked player in the country this late. I do not really want to argue the point but I will say that I think the firing of Coach Martelli helped VCU late in the process.

agreed ... and Martelli's job uncertainty may have kept Bones from signing with them earlier. it can be difficult to secure recruits when there are whispers that a coach could be fired.
Could be? Or that some want him to be?

Exactly. Just rip off the bandaid and be done with it, so the kids will KNOW that they won't be playing for a coach who lost 40 games in the past 2 years. Alas, that ship has sailed...

Sure couldn't hurt...

I'm always surprised when a kid commits this late in his senior year. I get it if he didn't have offers before and came on late. or if he de-committed from somewhere else. just seems strange to be a 4 star deciding this late. I can't imagine doing that. but everyone is different.
I heard the check from Will Wade bounced.

Dayton now at 11 scholarship players as Policelli and Davis transfer.

Source: Stanford transfer Cormac Ryan is considering Butler, Davidson, Gonzaga, Marquette, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Penn, Texas, Villanova, Virginia, and Yale.

Good for the kid that basketball continues as not his only priority. Ten schools on the list I have no issue with him going there. What I like to know is HTH is Texas on that list?
